My First Real Estate Auction - 09/28/11 09:27 PM
Today I attended an auction for a condo in Largo, MD.  We were allowed in an hour before the auction to investigate the unit.  I was actually surprised that there were so many people there - my guess is 8-10 sets of people bidding.  
The bidding started at $20,000 and quickly climbed to a point that eliminated many of the buyers present.
I'm not sure what I expected but it kinda felt like I was on an episode of Storage Wars.  It was very civilized and controlled and the unit actually sold for very close to market price.

I got my I-Pad last year for my birthday and I absolutely love it even though I don't use it for anything intelligent.
On Wednesday night my 6 year old son says to me "Mommy I have to tell you something and you have to promise not to yell".   As a mom, you know no good can come of that statement.

Nickelodeon's Worldwide Day of Play will take place on the Ellipse of the National Mall, Washington DC on Saturday September 24, 2011
Festivities begin at 10am and will run until 4pm.

2011 Angie Houtz Memorial Scholarship Winners - 09/11/11 06:29 PM
On the 10th anniversary of her death it seems only fitting that we announce the students who have been chosen as the 2011 Angie Houtz Memorial Scholarship winners.
Each year I am in awe of the talented young people who apply for the scholarship.
This scholarship was started after Angie was killed on 9/11/2001 in the Pentagon.
Criteria for the scholarship include:

9/11 - 10 years later - 09/09/11 07:07 PM
This is my least favorite time of the year as the anniversary of 9/11 and death of my best friend Angie approaches.
This year seems so much worse than some of the past anniversaries.  I think it's because 10 years feels like a lifetime.  Also, for the first time she's been dead (10 years) longer than we were best friends (9 years) and I feel so cheated!

Cheated out of the opportunity to see her as a mother.

Major Flooding in Upper Marlboro, MD - 09/08/11 10:03 PM
The DC area has been experiencing a spell of really bizarre weather and natural disasters.  It all started 2 weeks ago with an earthquake that caused damage to several structures.
This was followed closely by Hurricane Irene which resulted in lots of downed trees and hundreds of thousands of people without power.
Now we are dealing with the remnants of Tropical storm Lee which has created the heaviest rain I can ever remember seeing.  It started raining on Monday afternoon and it has not stopped since.

The 2011 Prince George's County Fair will be held September 8-11, 2011 at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro MD.
Admission to the PG County Fair is $6 for adults and $5 for kids.

Old Maryland Farm is located in Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro, MD.
Old Maryland Farm is an educational farm facility that features exhibits and displays designed to familiarize the public with the farming experience.
