I get this question a lot from potential buyers. Of course the obvious answer is that a mortgage professional will be able to help you determine how much home you can afford. But a good mortgage professional is more than just running the credit and determining the maximum amount a person can spend on a house. A good mortgage professional will actually talk to the clients and get to know them. That way they can discuss not just how much home they qualify for but how much home they are comfortable with. I hear lots of agents complain about mortgage brokers. Some are described as incompetent, others are disliked because of excessive fees. I have worked with some horrible mortgage brokers (some horrible direct lenders too). However, I have also worked with an absolutely, fabulous mortgage broker, Bridget McGhee! I met Bridget McGhee of Allied Home Mortgage through active rain. We met for lunch and instantly we hit it off.
