angie houtz memorial fund: 2012 Charitable Donations - Year in Review - 12/31/12 07:09 AM
I am amazed to think that we are at the end of 2012.  Seems like the year flew by.  2012 was a very difficult year for me and my family personally and at times a very challenging year professionally.
Despite all the challenges I am honored to know that I was able to make contributions to several wonderful organizations because of the real estate transactions I was a part of.
Each of the organizations listed below received at least 1 $50 donation in 2012.  However, many of the organizations received several donations throughout the year.

The Angie Houtz Memorial Fund was established after my best friend Angie was killed in the September 11 attack on the Pentagon.  The charity is run by my husband and I, Angie's 2 sisters and their husbands.
Since it's inception the fund has given out $1000s in scholarships to talented students attending public colleges in Maryland.  We recently awarded the 2012 scholarships to 5 talented college students.
After notifying 2012's winner of a $3000 scholarship we received the following response:
"Last night, after I received the phone call that … (0 comments)

angie houtz memorial fund: 9/11 - 10 years later - 09/09/11 12:07 PM
This is my least favorite time of the year as the anniversary of 9/11 and death of my best friend Angie approaches.
This year seems so much worse than some of the past anniversaries.  I think it's because 10 years feels like a lifetime.  Also, for the first time she's been dead (10 years) longer than we were best friends (9 years) and I feel so cheated!

Cheated out of the opportunity to see her as a mother.
Cheated out of the opportunity to have her know my children and have them know her personally.
Cheated out of having that … (21 comments)

angie houtz memorial fund: Angie Houtz Memorial Fund - New Logo - 02/27/11 02:37 AM
The Angie Houtz Memorial Fund was changing addresses.  We thought this was a good time to update our letterhead and maybe develop a new logo.
The only problem was that none of us were in anyway artistic or creative.  I remembered hearing about Logo Tournament when I was at Raincamp and I remember that Ellie McIntire had used it for her new logo.
We decided to check it out.  We set up the tournament and designs began trickling in.  The third design that came in was absolutely stunning and remained my favorite until the last day of the tournament when a … (7 comments)

Yesterday my daughter and I volunteered at the College Park Community Food Bank.  The College Park Community Food Bank is headquartered at the College Park Church of the Nazarene and delivers food to local families on the 3rd Saturday of every month.  There is no cost to the families to receive the food.  This month, 85 families (family sizes that I saw ranged from 1-8 members) received food from the food bank.
The food bank accepts donations of food, money, and grocery store gift cards.  In addition, other donations (clothes, toys, household items) are accepted and made available to the participating … (7 comments)
