On the 10th anniversary of her death it seems only fitting that we announce the students who have been chosen as the 2011 Angie Houtz Memorial Scholarship winners. Each year I am in awe of the talented young people who apply for the scholarship. This scholarship was started after Angie was killed on 9/11/2001 in the Pentagon. Criteria for the scholarship include: Attending (or planning to attend) a MD public university or college Minimum 3.0 GPA Exemplary record of community service Despite the tragic way we lost her, I know Angie would be proud of the many students that have been (3 comments)

The Angie Houtz Memorial Fund is pleased to announce it's annual scholarship. This scholarship is open to students attending or planning to attend public colleges or universities in Maryland. Criteria for the scholarship include:
Cumulative, unweighted grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Attend or be accepted to attend a Maryland public 2 or 4 year college or university. Must be a full-time student (minimum 12 credits). Must have participated in at least 200 hours of community service. Must not be related to any member of the Board of Directors. Yesterday my daughter and I volunteered at the College Park Community Food Bank. The College Park Community Food Bank is headquartered at the College Park Church of the Nazarene and delivers food to local families on the 3rd Saturday of every month. There is no cost to the families to receive the food. This month, 85 families (family sizes that I saw ranged from 1-8 members) received food from the food bank. The food bank accepts donations of food, money, and grocery store gift cards. In addition, other donations (clothes, toys, household items) are accepted and made available to the participating (7 comments)

Angie Houtz was born in Charles County, MD in 1974. She spent her entire life in Southern Maryland and graduated as the salutatorian from McDonough High School in Waldorf, MD. Angie attended UMBC on a full scholarship and graduated with a degree in english in 1996. Angie began working for the Office of Naval Intelligence in Suitland, MD as an intern and then eventually graduated to a full-time job as a navy analyst. She was evenutally placed at the Pentagon. Angie was killed instantly in a conference room in the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. I met Angie during orientation for (6 comments)
