Thanks to Melissa Marro for posting this review of my recent SAR Home Staging Training course. My next course begins May 16th in Los Angeles. Contact me for more information!
At RESA this year we met many stagers that had been in business for a year or more that still had more questions than answers when it comes to running a successful home staging business. Given the fact that the majority of our home staging instructors made an appearance on the stage either in educational sessions, or on the expert panel & the fact that our instructors won nearly every category in the RESA awards that they were nominated for, it only made sense that we would get a lot of questions.
RESA Professional Stager of the Year, Annie Pinsker Brown, in particular, was bombarded with well wishers and those who wanted to know how she accomplished everything she did. Annie, like all of the SAR Instructors, runs a very successful home staging business. Because she understands the "secrets" of education and business skills, Annie has made the perfect home staging instructor.
With too many questions still looming and their business not where they had wanted it to be after two years in the industry, two of the stagers at the RESA Convention recently attended Annie's first SAR Home Staging Training Class. The video below shows the information conveyed in class to be exactly what they needed.
Fran, the second half of this dynamic duo (Pristine Home Staging) had this to say, "After taking a 3-day SAR class with Annie Pinsker-Brown both Paula and I have found that this class has added so much value to our business. We've had our business for two years but there were still a lot of loose ends. With Annie's support, professionalism and great inspiration she helped us to understand the marketing and business end of our business and help us take it up one notch. I highly recommend this class to anyone. Thank you for your hard work and putting this class together to help "rookie stagers" like us. Love the "Kindle" what a great idea!"
If your home staging business is struggling or you still feel like you have much to learn about the BUSINESS part of staging, consider upgrading your education with SAR. If you are already experiencing steady business and growth but still ready to step it up a notch, remember we also have Advanced Staging Training with HGTV's Matthew Finlason.

Annie offers some of the most comprehensive Home Staging training in the industry by way of the SAR Staging and Redesign training program. Our training programs are approved by the Real Estate Staging Association (RESA), a member run international organization for Home Stagers. This means you know that our instructors have met rigorous guidelines and your training will provide you with what you need to know to advance in this growing industry. In fact the main thing that sets SAR apart from the many other staging designations is the instructors, each of whom runs a successful Home Staging business in their local market. What this means to the students is that your teacher will be able to answer any and all questions about starting and running a successful Home Staging business in the geographical area in which you live. We've been there, we've done that and we're ready to share our experience with you.
What else sets SAR's training course apart from the others? Our focus on technology. Why have a bulky training manual that just collects dust on your shelf? We will be giving you the tools that you need to succeed in a field that's increasingly dependent on technology.

We were recently called to stage this gorgeous vacant model town home because it was one of the last available units in a new building. Why wasn’t this one selling? Because there is no separate dining room or defined eating area. So when it was empty, it was very difficult for the average home buyer to figure out where they would sit down to eat. For that reason, many buyers passed on what is actually a fabulous unit. They just needed some help to see its true potential, and that’s where Stage to Sell came in!

As a professional home stager based in Culver City, I was recently asked to stage this adorable Culver City home. The owner had been renting it out for a year and was now ready to sell it and relocate to Northern California. There was some touchup painting to be done, as well as replacing kitchen cabinet hardware and removing overgrown trees and a chain link fence that blocked the view of the house from the street. Then we got to work furnishing the home with buyers in mind.
Hidden behind mature trees this 3-bedroom home offers hardwood floors, updated bathrooms and a nice master suite. The backyard has a large grass yard & patio lined with bamboo. The garage could be used as an art studio or office. With a great Westside location (only 3 miles to Santa Monica, 3.5 miles to Venice Pier & 4.5 miles to LAX), the home sits on a quiet Culver City cul-de-sac near shops & restaurants.

We are often asked whether we can stage a property using some of the home owner’s existing furniture. The answer is a resounding YES! In this case, the seller had perfectly usable pieces for her living and dining room that she was willing to leave behind in order to save a bit on the staging rental fees. We happily agreed. We brought in additional pieces for the other rooms and enhanced what she had.

Here’s a link to an interesting article from the Wall Street Journal about what it takes to get a home sold.
Some of the highlights include:
· List in early January to take advantage of post-holiday home shoppers
“If you hit the ground running and you’re a fresh listing that has done everything right, you’ve got the best shot.” – Louis Cammarosano, general manager of HomeGain.com
· Price it right from the start
“The longer something sits on the market, the more price reductions you might have to make and the more potential buyers will assume that there’s something wrong with the home. So more often than not, it’s best not to try testing the waters with a higher price.” - Louis Cammarosano, general manager of HomeGain.com
· Get the house ready There are two factors that predict how quickly a home will sell and for what price: PRICE and CONDITION.
In our market, homes in the $1MM and under range are often selling within the first month if they are staged and priced to sell. There is a lot of competition out there, so if your seller is serious about selling quickly, she must make sure that her home stands out from the competition (in a good way).
A well-staged home will feel spacious and inviting. It will appeal to your target buyer (whether it is a family, a young couple or retirees). It will be neutral enough to allow any buyer to envision him or herself living in the home, but will never feel bland and forgettable.
Gone are the days when sellers on the west side of Los Angeles could just put up a sign in the yard and have their property sold within days. In this buyer’s market, it takes a lot more to get a home sold. You as the Realtor know what the best price is for your listing. Let a professional Home Stager help you determine the best way to show the home off in its best light and attract your target buyer. Working as a team, we can get it sold!
