Inattentive Driving... - 08/30/10 10:40 PM

Just released from the congress on safety, Each day, more than 16 people are killed and more than 1,300 people are injured in crashes involving a distracted driver.1 Distracted driving is driving while doing another activity that takes your attention away from driving; these activities can increase the chance of a motor vehicle crash. There are three main types of distraction:
Visual—taking your eyes off the road; Manual—taking your hands off the wheel; and Cognitive—taking your mind off what you are doing.1 Distracted driving activities include things like using a cell phone, texting, eating, drinking, and talking with passengers. Using in-vehicle … (12 comments)

Watering plant correctly can save money and plant life. - 08/29/10 11:32 PM
Everyone knows that water is essential for healthy plants. But just how much is enough? How much is too little? Learning some basic garden practices can make watering foolproof for both potted plants and garden plants.
The Effects of Improper Watering
While water is essential for plants, too much water can be deadly. Plants roots need oxygen which they get from tiny air pockets in the soil. If the soil is constantly wet, the plant will actually drown. Many plants are susceptible to root or stem rot from a too wet environment. Over watered plants won't grow a healthy root system … (2 comments)

Changing out door locks yourself - 08/29/10 11:02 PM
Replacing a worn or broken doorknob is not a task that requires special skill or even a large chunk of time. In order to avoid leaving your home unlocked (or without an external doorknob), it's best to choose your replacement hardware ahead of time. Doorknobs are sold in standard sizes, so finding an exact fit for regular sized doors won't be a problem.
So, if you have your tools in hand, let's get to work.
TOOLS
Phillips screwdriver
New doorknob and hardware
Screwdriver
OUT WITH THE OLD
First things first, you'll need to remove your existing doorknob and all its hardware. This … (1 comments)

Keeping up with the following areas will keep you away from paying outrageous bills and repairs. And not leave you stranded in some dangerous location or situation...  This info I have from ehow that I have posted in my garage as a reminder. Fluids Check all of your fluids regularly. You may need some assistance from a friend, parent or mechanic to show you where to check if you are unfamiliar with the process. Avoiding a real stroke. Here are the real signs. - 08/26/10 01:03 AM
There are people of all ages suffering from strokes across the country and it is important that you are aware of the signs.

Immediately call 9-1-1 or the emergency medical services (EMS) number so an ambulance (ideally with advanced life support) can be sent for you.
Also, check the time so you'll know when the first symptoms appeared. It's very important to take immediate action. If given within 3 hours of the start of symptoms, a clot-busting drug called tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) may reduce long-term disability for the most common type of stroke.
tPA is the only FDA-approved medication for the … (4 comments)

Nothing is more satisfying than giving a young couple the keys

This couple, like so many have worked the last 3-5 years to put enough money aside to buy their first home.  Some live in apartments, rented smaller homes, had a modular home (this couple had just that), and some have even lived under their own parent’s roof (talk about stress).

I jumped into this VA vendee loan and I have to tell you it is one well kept secret.  First of all it is unique in that it only applies to VA foreclosed homes like this. Avon Lake Schools jump on available government funds and get paid - 08/07/10 12:56 AM
Only a year ago the school board was considering whether to place two bond issues on the ballot.
Those issues now are funding construction projects at every district property, and soon will cover the costs of a new bus garage on Pin Oak Parkway.

The bids that the board accepted last week were not the only phase of the project that came in over budget, the city’s improvement projects received about twice as many federal funds as expected, ultimately saving taxpayers millions of dollars.
“It could not have worked out better in our favor,” Superintendent Bob Scott said.

The next place those thoughts should go is simple: out of your mouth! Some advise on cleaning out that garage. - 08/04/10 12:25 AM

Have you ever known someone that uses a garage just for storage? Instead of parking the car inside for shelter, those people leave the car exposed to the weather's elements in order to keep a roof over boxes, equipment, and assorted odds and ends.
If you are planning on selling that home, a cluttered over filled garage is a big turn off to a potential buyer.  They will look at that home and remember what you had in the garage and forget everything about the home.
1. Remove everything from the garage. Get rid of trash. Call the salvage store to … (4 comments)

Best Trees in Ohio to plant that will get the curb appeal - 08/03/10 11:25 PM
I was curious as to what the best trees are in the area that will punch out some curb appeal and this is what I learned from ehow. Credit goes to Irum Sarfaraz for a great article. The best type of trees to plant in Ohio are shade trees. The best trees for any region are the native trees, since they are most adaptable to the growing conditions and are low maintenance. Native trees also have greater resistance to diseases and pests. Preparing Children for Job Relocation - 08/03/10 11:16 PM

Tell your children why you are moving. Have a family discussion concerning what you are sad about leaving and what you are looking forward to once you move. Ask children what they would like to know about the new area - don't make assumptions. Plan a party to say good-bye to friends; develop ways to stay in touch. Utilize a calendar to explain what will happen in what order during the moving process. Read your child stories about moving. Take a camera on your house hunting trip. … (6 comments)

Brake ahead when driving - 08/01/10 04:28 PM
I have had more than one person rear end me in the last 20 years.  While driving back to Ohio in West Virginia area I started thinking again about about safe braking while in those turning steep mointains. So I have found this great ehow tips info on safe braking.
Pay attention when driving. One of the leading causes of fender benders is a driver being distracted. This situation takes the driver's attention away from the road and, even for a mere second, this can be disastrous for a moving vehicle. The faster the car is going, the longer distance it … (0 comments)

Keeping pets safe in extreme heat - 08/01/10 03:58 PM
According to the American Humane Society, animals suffer from heat exhaustion and heat stroke just like humans. These conditions can lead to death very quickly. Keep an eye on your pet in the warm weather and watch for symptoms such as heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid pulse, unsteadiness, a staggering gait, vomiting, temperature more than 104 degrees, stupor, or a deep red or purple tongue. You know your pet better than anyone and know if something is wrong. It's better to call the veterinarian and be safe than sorry.

No TV right before bed. Even better, get the TV out of the bedroom or even out of the house, completely. It is too stimulating to the brain and it will take longer to fall asleep. Also disruptive of pineal gland function for the same reason as above.

You may be in a situation to look for a new home in a new location because of work. It's important to recognize that you'll be changing your child's routine, and while they may be excited about the trip, not knowing what to expect can be scary.
