A funny for the Moms

I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter.

She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth.

I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that.

'Why?' my daughter asked.

'Because it's been on the ground, you don't know where it's been, 

it's dirty and probably has germs' I replied.

At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and 

asked, 'Mommy, how do you know all this stuff? You are so smart.'

I was thinking quickly. 'All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mommy 

Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mommy.'

We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently 

pondering this new information.

OH...I get it!' she beamed, 'So if you don't pass the test you have 

to be the daddy.'

'Exactly' I replied back with a big smile on my face.

Firedog Across America Contest

Check out this letter from John Greene, a firefighter with 

Hanover County Fire Department, Station 10.

I am a volunteer firefighter with Station 10 of the
Hanover County Fire Department. My station is a finalist in the
Firedog Across America contest, sponsored by Circuit City.

We were named a finalist out of over 5,100 entrants, specifically for
our work with a gentleman in our community who has Down Syndrome.
We have taken him in as an associate member of our station, and it has
done wonders for both him and us.

Between now and May 13th, people will have the chance to vote for
which finalist they like the best. Each of the first 250,000 votes
cast
for finalists earns a $1 donation from Circuit City to that station,
and the
firehouse with the most votes receives an additional $100,000. We
have
already received a $20,000 donation for becoming a finalist, which we
will use towards equipping our new heavy rescue unit.

impact we've had on the community.

Hanover ARC-Improving the lives of persons with disabilities

Improving the lives of persons with disabilities

According to the ARC Facts & Faces, their main objective is to provide services to people of all ages with intellectual disabilites/mental retardation and young children with developmental delays experience a higher degree of independence & socialization.

Hanover ARC is funded FULLY through Private, corporate, civic & United Way donations. They receive NO public funding.

Among the many services that are offered are Summer Educational Scholarships for 3-6 year olds with development delays and children 7-21 who have mental retardation.

According to my colleague, Teelo Rutledge who is president of Hanover Arc they also sponsor a program called "Saturday Sitters" which is designed to give families a break from the rigors of the constant demands of their child's care.

When engaging Teelo in a discussion on Hanover Arc, it is easy to see his passion and drive to help this seriously underserved segment of our society. 

One of the programs fund raisers is "A Taste of Hanover" 

This event takes place Wednesday, April 25th from 6:00-9:00 at the Richmond Times-Dispatch Building, 8460 Times-Dispatch Blvd, Mechanicsville VA

 Tickets are $30/Adults-$10/5-12 years-Free/Under 5

There will be Caterers, Chefs & Restaurants Galore to show a true TASTE of HANOVER!
