Announcing My New Book For Realtors - 02/28/10 09:44 PM
I have just published a new book for Realtors - "Knowing The Score" - that contains a new concept that I think you'll find quite valuable. Now. you can schedule your time quite wisely because you'll be able to determine if someone is serious about buying or listing - and in working with you - or if they really aren't. This book is based on the "ready, willing, and able" formula, but it adds a very important missing ingredient. For the first time, "ready," "willing," and "able" have been quantified and defined as objective criteria that will mean the same regardless … (5 comments)

Number 48 Gets Number 49 - 02/28/10 07:47 PM
That didn't long. Last week at Fontana, Jimmie Johnson drove his Lowe's 48 Chevrolet into Victory Lane. It was the 48th win in his 9 year career. 48 for 48.
Well, today, he won at Las Vegas, making it 49 for 48. Can't do much better than that - back-to-back wins for the reigning 4-time, 4-in-a-row Champion.
The nice thing about this victory is that there were a series of adjustments and decisions to be made - as there are in any arace, and as there are with any of the drivers and teams.
This was a total team effort that … (4 comments)

Can We Move On To Something Else? - 02/28/10 11:47 AM
Everyday it's health care. The President won't let up, and because he won't I won't. Not a day goes by that he doesn't lobby for health care - something that the vast majority or Americans didn't ask for and don't want as proposed.
While the President is so fixated on getting health care passed, he seemingly is ignoring the other issues facing us. Come to think of it, health care isn't even an issue so he's spending an inordinate amount of his time unproductively.
When was the last time he talked about our Afghan strategy, the national debt (other than what … (20 comments)

Sarah Palin to headline NRA Annual Meeting in Charlotte NC MAY 14 - 02/27/10 10:49 PM
The second amendment gives us the right to bear guns - all of us - and it is a right - unlike other so-called rights. It doesn't say we have to to, but it says it can't be regulated - thereby making it a right. This sounds like a great event.

Perseverance Pays Off - 02/27/10 09:40 PM
The US men's 4-man bobsled team did what no other US team had done since 1948 - they won the gold medalin the Winter Olympics. That's 62 years of trying, and trying, and trying.
Not giving up, keeping at it, honing their skills and equipment, and recruiting a strong team finally paid off.
That is such a long time to keep pursuing a goal, but it was worth it. It finally has happened.
Congratulations, Team USA. Well done.

Health Care Was Never A Right - 02/27/10 06:34 PM
With all of the debate in this country about health care - initiated by the then Candidate Obama - there has been considerable discussion about health care being a right. It isn't, wasn't, and can't be.
The basic tenet of a right is that it has to be conveyed universally. It isn't something you qualify for, and it can't be legislated or regulated. Voting is not a right. Having a job is not a right. Health care is not a right.
In the health care arena, people can chose of their own free will whether to have insurance or whether to … (16 comments)

"Bipartisanship" Redefined - 02/26/10 01:37 PM
After yesterday's very entertaining extended photo op for the President and his closest supporters from Congress - I know there were some Republicans there, too, as foils - it's clear that we have a new brand of bipartisanship in Washington - the President and those who agree with everything he wants.
Fortunately this doesn't seem to be enough to get health care and cap and trade passed, but the so-called "jobs" bill is moving forward.
I'm looking forward to November 2nd - now just 248 days away. Then we'll see another definition of bipartisanship - those who being ignored now who … (18 comments)

So That's A Pummelo - 02/26/10 12:26 PM
When I logged back in on Active Rain today, the word that I had to type was "pummelo." If you've ever seen that word and been asked to type it, this is what it is - a large grapefruit-like citrus.
We have had them the size of volleyballs, and the rind is often over a ½" thick.
They are mainly a Far Eastern tree and fruit, but they can be found in Florida and California.

Rhode Island School Board Has The Right Idea - 02/25/10 10:39 AM
In Central Falls, Rhode Island, the teachers at Central Falls High School are soon going to be out of work. Oh, they still be getting paid by the public for unemployment, but at least they won't be interferring with the education of at risk kids.

"Bipartisanship" Is More Than A Word - 02/24/10 09:58 PM
President Obama is hosting his health care summit/media event/photo op tomorrow. He would like to get at least one Republican to sign onto his plan so he can proclaim that he has bipartisan support.
However, bipartisanship - true bipartisanship - means that there is a general consensus or agreement on the concept. There is none. It means that it is good for the country, is necessary, and has broad-based support. Not true either.

Maintaining your brand is so very important in the buisness world - as Toyota is finding out.
Today, an employee at Sea World in Orlando was attacked and killed by "Shamu" (this is the stage name of Tilikum). Turns out that people who work with this animal know of his nasty disposition, and it also turns out that this is not the first that Shamu has killed someone. Military Tribunals Are The Way To Go - 02/23/10 05:15 PM
Attorney General Eric Holder yesterday celebrated an easy victory when Zazi plead guilty in civilian court. Holder now thinks this gives him leave to prosecute all of the other terrorist cases on the mainland in civilian courts.
However, his own words do him in. He says that he wants to use "every means possible" to secure convictions - every means except the one surefire way to get a conviction, and that is the military tribunal. I think Holder is more interested in putting on a show than in getting results.
On a related point, the Administration and others are criticizing Congress … (10 comments)

Reframing The Health Care Debate - 02/22/10 04:08 PM
The central issue in the health care debate has been lost.

WHY I LIKE SARAH: SHE CARES - 02/18/10 10:55 PM
I agree with Hugh that it is so refreshing to see someone so grounded in core values and principles who speaks her mind and is not afraid to be passionate about what she believes.

All Of This Was Avoidable - 02/18/10 09:48 AM
Stop the insanity! After spending over $3 trillion last year, President Obama today announced that the federal debt has exploded, and his solution is to create a deficit taskforce to look into it. Duh!
The federal deficit (as is true with most deficits) only happens one way - you spend more than you have.
We didn't have $3 trillion last year, but we spent it anyway - somehow. That's deficit spending. Don't need a commission to tell us this.
By the way, how are we paying for a deficit taskforce?
George Bush gave us TARP and plenty of outrageous spending, but … (10 comments)

These Are Exciting Times - 02/17/10 11:54 AM
These are exciting times. Washington - DC and George - are at the center of this. Washington, DC, the establishment - the tired, bloated, indifferent, wornout, spendthrift, gluttonous government - is so out-of-step with the people, the Founding Principles, and the Constitution that the other Washington (George) is playing host to the signing today of the "Mt. Vernon Statement."
Liberals and progressives have been deriding conservatives for not having any solid ideas or leadership. Look again.

We Don't Have To Agree To This - 02/15/10 02:17 PM
The government is spending money they don't have like there is a deadline for going into maximum debt - like there is a contest for whichever Senator or Congressperson can spend the most. The President has spent over $3 trillion dollars in the past year. I have no idea how much a trilion is - and neither do most people. If Airlines Are That Unprofitable, It's Time For A New Model - 02/13/10 01:32 PM
If airlines are so unprofitable, it's time for a new business model. For openers, ditch the unions. There's the pilot's union, the flight attendant's union, the mechanic's union, the baggage handler's union, and who knows what else. There's most of your huge costs right there.
Then decide what your mission is. Is it to provide safe comfortable transportation by air from point to point - or is it to make the passengers sorry they ever booked your carrier but had no other choice, and they got nickled and dimed all the way? I'm thinking the latter is closer to the point.

Next week, they get to try to spend even more money that we don't have on yet another program we don't need. Even more to the point, we don't need them.
There is still unspent over $500 billion of the $787 billion stimulus bill (roughly two-thirds) that just had to get passed or we would suddenly fall into a financial collapse. Well that may happen anyway - but as a result of the stimulus bill rather than the possible lack of it.

Take Notice - 02/02/10 10:09 AM
As Realtors, salespeople, home builders, and small business owners, we tend to manage our own little worlds and not pay a lot of attention to what is going on in Washington. That needs to stop.
If we don't start making a huge fuss - and a very vocal one - we may not be able to continue our businesses. Not tomorrow or the next day, but we are being squeezed. Credit is non-existent because of government regulation. The President and the Congress want to tax gasoline, electricity, and every other form of energy usage but won't allow the free markets to … (12 comments)

February 2nd To November 2nd - 02/02/10 09:11 AM
We're out of the 40s, and now just 39 weeks remain until Election Day - November 2, 2010. This election is more important than it has been in recent memory. We need to halt or reverse the agressive legistaltion that is being debated and passed.
The President's budget is nothing but a recipe for bankrupty. Nancy Pelosi says she will pass Health Care no matter what she has to do - and over the objections of two-thirds of the American people.
All 435 seats in the House plus 36 seats in the Senate are up for grabs.
It's time for a … (12 comments)

Motivational Monday - "Clarity" - 02/01/10 02:36 PM

February Is The Month Of Observances - 02/01/10 09:22 AM
I know that Punxsutawney Phil doesn't show up until tomorrow and that it may still look and feel a lot like winter in many parts of the country, but spring isn't that far away.
Actually, the groundhog leads off an entire month of festivities - beginning tomorrow. For a short month, February has a tremendous number of important dates.
After Groundhog Day tomorrow - and election day here in South Florida - we have the beginning of the NASCAR season on the 6th, followed by the Daytona 500 and Valentine’s Day on the 14th. You'd think Valentine's Day and the Daytona … (13 comments)

We Are Being Duped - 02/01/10 08:58 AM
The American people are being misled, and we appear to accept it.
The President is freezing spending, and we think that's a good idea. It's a horrible idea and a trick.
If a department had a budget of $1 billion (a very small department) for 2010 (the fiscal year we're in the middle of now) and it wants a 2011 budget of $1.2, freezing it merely keeps it at the $1 billion level. It doesn't reduce it to "0."
It sounds like when you are freezing spending or freezing the budget that you are stopping it - putting it on ice. … (10 comments)
