economy: Finally, Things Are Back To Normal - 09/30/09 10:32 PM
Back to normal? What is he talking about, you ask?
2009 has been a year of adjustments for most of us, and as we close out the 3rd quarter and get ready for the big push toward the end of the year, we can take solace in the fact that we

economy: Are we getting close? - 12/16/08 01:13 PM
Now that 2008 is winding down and 2009 is on the horizon, are we getting close? Close to what? To a "return to normal."
It really depends on what you view as "normal." If you mean what we experienced just a few years ago, then I hope not. I don't want

economy: Just say 'No' - 12/08/08 01:31 PM
In the words made famous by sitting First Lady Nancy Reagan, I would reiterate, "Just say 'No'." Of course then we were talking about drugs and their destructive effect on society. Come to think of it, we still are - only this time the drugs are bailouts.
Apparently unions want the

economy: Wall Street babies throw another fit - 10/22/08 08:18 PM
There just is no pleasing Wall Street. Good economic news no longer buoys the market.
Oil prices are a several month low $66 a barrel - that's not good enough because OPEC might cut production on Friday and we'd better get scared now that prices will go up. Gas prices are

economy: Who do you believe? - 10/16/08 05:07 PM
Depending on who you listen to, we're one step away from the "Great Depression," or mired in a recession, or seeing housing sales inch upward.
Can you believe the Dow Jones roller coaster - down more than 700 points twice in the past week, up over 500 on Monday and more

economy: Falling gas prices provide new entertainment - 10/10/08 05:24 PM
As gas prices went up - sometimes several times in the same day and always by several cents at a time - we always tried to keep our tanks full as a hedge against the increasing prices. Kind of a value averaging approach. This was better than getting hit with a

economy: Can you believe these gasoline prices? - 10/09/08 03:47 PM
Some good news for all of us - and it's getting better.
Finally, we may be able to use our car for business without the cost of gas eating such a big hole in our wallet. Prices are coming down.
I actually witnessed an 8 cent decline from yesterday in a

economy: A whole new appreciation for debates - 10/02/08 05:31 PM
Many eyes and ears are on the Vice-Presidential debate just a few hours from now and on the 2 remaining Presidential debates.
I thought about how hard that must be to prepare to take questions from a sometimes insistent or unfriendly moderator or opponent and to have to defend and explain

economy: Can we really believe Congress? Would you buy a used car from them? - 09/30/08 11:23 AM
Saturday, I posted an article entitled "Our sales proposition has to be believable" about a different subject, but dealing with a credible sales story. I should have saved it for today, but I'll go ahead and borrow from it anyway.
Does it strike anyone odd that with all of the panic

economy: Gas prices continuing to drop - 08/25/08 09:55 AM
Last week I had a post about the declining gas prices, and this morning I received comment on that post from Karl Peidl in New Jersey. He stated that gas prices had fallen to $3.17 in his area and was speculating about the possibility of gas going below $3.00. From what

economy: Over a month of decline in gas prices - 08/20/08 04:00 PM
Can you believe it? Not only did Tropical Storm Fay have no impact on gas prices or refineries in the Gulf (at least not yet - stay tuned), today was the 34th consecutive day that gas prices fell.
Also today, oil companies began bidding for offshore drilling rights.
Wow, what a

economy: Ready for some good news? - 08/05/08 02:10 PM
Need to hear some good news? Well, here's a little for mid-day on Tuesday. First, the Fed made no changes today - interest rates remained as they have been. Second, the Dow is way up - almost 300 points as of right now. Third, oil is down over $2.00 a barrel

economy: Well, I finally did it - paid $4.00 that is - 06/13/08 09:57 AM
Finally, I was able to find a gas station that would sell me gas for over $4.00 a gallon. It took a lot of looking. No actually, I ran out of stations that had it for under $4.00. Many stations tried to hold the line at $3.99 for several days, but

economy: $10 donuts? - 06/04/08 05:15 PM
Many of us have blogged about gas and oil prices. The rest of us have at least talked about it.
But what if we were talking about donuts instead? If Krispy Kreme (Dunkin' Donuts, if you'd rather) was the only donut manufacturer in the United Sates because it was too expensive

economy: Onward and upward – with gas prices that is - 06/01/08 02:21 PM
According to the national map by county that GasBuddy.com prepares and that I include on my other blog, only 4 counties in the US now have gas below $3.69 a gallon. If I am reading the map correctly, there are just 2 counties in Wyoming and one each in Missouri and Arkansas

economy: What has really changed? - 05/24/08 01:48 PM
With the price of gasoline being considerably higher than it was even a short time ago, and possibly going even higher, there are many suggestions being offered on how to save gas. This is well and good, but it assumes that people consciously want to save gas by the way they

economy: Buckle your seat belts, it could be a wild ride - 05/22/08 10:38 PM
I heard on the news tonight that oil may hit $200 a barrel by the end of next year and that this will translate to $7 gas. Is this really possible or is this just more of the wild speculation that has lead to this incredible run-up in price?

economy: Who have thought I'd be excited about $3.67 gas? - 05/15/08 09:48 AM
Wow, if you had told me that I would find $3.67 gas a reason to be happy, I'd never have believed it. This morning as I drove by $3.92, $3.88, $3.89, and similar prices, imagine my glee when I found the price at Sam's Club was only $3.67? Too bad I

economy: You saw it here first - 05/11/08 03:17 PM
Now, it looks like more people are thinking like I am. In a Wall Street Journal editorial on Friday (May 9th), Cyril Moulle-Berteaux wrote "The Housing Crisis Is Over."
This is the first major announcement of this phenomena; however, I made such a pronouncement 10 days prior to that in my

economy: Oh no, not another post on gas prices - 05/02/08 10:41 AM
No, this is not that kind of post. I hate high gas prices as much - or more - than anyone else, but I accept them as a cost of doing business - partly because I don't have a choice in how much it costs and I need to use it.
