I was having a conversation about the Gettysburg Pa real estate market the other day. We were discussing the difference in markets in a small geographic area such as southern central Pa. Gettysburg, which a small rural community, including it's surrounding area, is however only a 1 1/2 hours from the Pa state capitol Harrisburg.
It dawned on me that Gettysburg is somewhat of a anomaly, from the center of the borough within 1 1/2 hours south is Baltimore, 1 1/2 (8 comments)

King George VI and Winston Churchill - 02/21/11 11:28 AM
King George VI and Winston ChurchillI had the pleasure of watching a special about King George VI last evening. As many are aware King George VI is currently the focus of a movie about his stutter. The King suffered from a severe stutter and had daily speech coaching for much of his reign. There is a lot that is interesting about King George VI and the Prime Minister of Brittan Winston Churchill. As many of you know I am a history buff, and the connection between the King and Mr. Churchill is amazing. First lets remember that Albert (the Kings real (7 comments)
So Bob Stewart threw down the challenge, go paperless. It is great to see so many people here in the Rain sharing their ways of going running an Eco Smart office. It got me thinking about the whole concept, is paperless where we can stop, is paperless all we need to be thinking about? As I stated in my post related to the challenge I believe that simply getting people to recognize the amount of energy, paper, etc waste. I would really like to take that next step. (8 comments)
Home Front General Store - Gettysburg Borough Pa - 02/19/11 01:26 PM
Home Front General Store - Gettysburg Borough Pa One of my favorite stores here in Gettysburg Borough is Home Front General Store. Stepping into Home Front is like stepping into the past. They have a huge selection of 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th century war reenacting equipment and supplies. Home Front General Store started in a small shop on York St, moved to a bigger location on Baltimore St, and is now in it's new home at 39 Queen St. Owners Diana Thomas and Kirk Davis have a passion for all things reenactment. The store is filled with (12 comments)

4 Tips for New Bloggers - You Want me to WhatI believe one of the hardest parts of beginning a blogging campaign is exactly that, getting started. If you haven't done a blog yet, it can be pretty overwhelming. Many people react to witting the same as they would to public speaking. The funny thing is once you are comfortable with one, the other is easy because one of the fundamentals of blogging is "write like you speak". These tips are are intended to do nothing more than give you , the new blogger a set of guidelines to follow, and keep in mind (15 comments)
Are you looking to find a single family home here in the southern Pa living area? As I have stated before there are many different options as far as life style choices go here in southern Pa. So once you have made your lifestyle and location choice what's the next step. For many of you that means getting onto the Internet and searching out that chosen area and seeing what is offered in that particular area. Paper-less Challenge An Eco Smart Idea Comes of Age - 02/14/11 10:47 AM
Paper-less Challenge An Eco Smart Idea Comes of AgeThe recent paperless challenge thrown down by ActiveRain could come at a better time for me. I was already in the throws of getting the two boards I serve on to at least notice the amount of paper wasted in our monthly meetings. Both the Realtors Assoc. of York & Adams Counties and the Rick & Sally Myers Animal Shelter of Adams County have both agreed to be more conscious of the amount of paper waste generated.. We have always had a seemingly endless supply of paper products at our disposal. We all (13 comments)
For All You Animal Lovers Out There - 02/13/11 09:17 AM
Theses photos have been making the rounds and it just felt right to post here this morning. I have always been a firm believer that animals communicate on a higher level than we humans give them credit for. You cannot tell me that these two are not communitcating as mother and baby. Some pictures just don't need captions. There is nothing like Mom's lap no matter who you are. This is precious ! This is a newborn offspring of Taskin, a Gypsy Stallion owned by Villa Vanners of Oregon . These pictures were taken immediately after his birth on April 6. The mare laid down, and then (14 comments)
Are Banks Going Hyper Local - 02/12/11 11:43 AM
Are Banks Going Hyper Local The Status Quo Has anyone else noticed the change in banks behavior these days. Not too long ago banks everywhere were touting there "online" services and they were making sure that everybody knew they were using technology to it's fullest. Banks were not concerned with being a local bank, they didn't even know the concept of hyper local banking at the time. Small banks were working to show good balance sheets in the hopes that a big bank would come and scoop then up, and scoop they did. It seemed for a while there banks were (6 comments)

The three main metropolitan area's that southern central Pa are Lancaster, York, & Gettysburg. Lancaster ( pronounced Lank-iss-ter) and York being cities, while Gettysburg is a boro. Compared to other area's of the state southern Pa is relatively rural. However all three area's do offer a certain amount of urban feel. Gettysburg Adams County Pa - A Historical Gold Mine - 02/08/11 01:00 PM
Gettysburg Adams County Pa - A Historical Gold MineBeing a Realtor in the Gettysburg Adams county area of Pennsylvania I am exposed to some of the most beautiful historical architecture in the country. Gettysburg and the surrounding Adams county is a treasure chest of historical homes and buildings. Many times as I am traveling to and from appointments I will pass a building that sticks in my mind. Being a true blogging addict and amateur history buff I love when I run across buildings like the one shown here. Not only does it provide a wonderful photo opportunity, but with a (6 comments)
Are You Ready for a Virtual Walk through? - 02/07/11 03:33 PM
Are You Ready for a Virtual Walk through? As most all of you know I love technology, and I have found me a new cool toy to play with. This technology could change how we Realtors go about our jobs. As with all our new technology it is not so much that the tool does, but how do we apply it.Take for example QR codes, (Quick Response) they have been around a while and the debate on whether they are useful or not. I will be posting in the very near future that I am involved with of an idea that I (7 comments)
Facebook, We have to Talk, I've Fallen for Another Network - 02/07/11 11:30 AM
Facebook, We have to Talk, I've Fallen for Another NetworkBack in November I did the unthinkable, to the horror of my social media guru's and mentors I turned off my Facebook account. I was told that the end of my social media career was imminent, I would soon be crawling back asking for forgiveness and my Facebook account back. Well here it is February and I am doing well, great in fact, stupendous even. Frankly I believe I made a good decision, I am not the only one who saw the Facebook writing on the proverbial monitor. Since making my rash (7 comments)

We are thinking about buying/selling in the future, when should we meet to discuss. - 02/05/11 07:47 AM
We are thinking about buying/selling in the future, when should we meet to discuss. This post was actually inspired by a post by Sharon Tara, but it got me thinking about some of the similarities between out two professions. While Sharon makes some excellent points about the why it is important for the client to meet at an earliest convienence, I immedately went through the thought process of why it is important for the Realtor to make contact early. As we all know the majority of individuals that are thinking of doing something, anything in the real estate market do so after (7 comments)
There are a lot of indicators that are pointing to continued move toward America's young professionals staying put in their urban apartment rentals and not making the jump to home ownership. There is alot of talk that having seen what recent homeowners have gone through there is no interest from Gen Y to purchase the American dream. But is that really the case? Urban Land Institute recently completed a survey of Gen Y'ers and found that of the 77.4 million people that make up Gen Y, 36% already owned a home. (7 comments)

Fort McHenry Birthplace of a National Anthem - 02/02/11 10:22 AM
Fort McHenry Birthplace of a National AnthemRecently my wife and I were able to take a day trip down to Baltimore and visit a place I have been wanting to see for a long time. I can now cross Ft. McHenry off my bucket list. Ft.McHenry is in a historic neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland. It is best known for it's role during the War of 1812 as the birthplace of the Star Spangled Banner. The fort was built in the late 1700's to protect the Baltimore harbor, at the time the busiest port in the fledgling United States of America. Fort (8 comments)
