gettyburggerry: Don't Ignore the Social in Social Media - 10/11/11 11:41 AM
Don't Ignore the Social in Social Media Recently Scott Stratten (#unmarketing) tweeted about the importance of remembering to address the social portion of social media. Mr. Stratten and I don't often agree on things social media, but on this point, he is right on the money. Many times while discussing a clients approach to social media the topic of what to post, tweet etc comes up. Almost without fail clients do not understand the importance of engaging on a social level. Often times those that understand the value of social media are the ones who show the most interest. Like most … (5 comments)

gettyburggerry: Help!! I am OUT of Control.... - 09/26/11 11:49 AM
Help!! I am OUT of Control.... It happens every time, whenever I am talking with clients about Social Media and it's virtues the same points of conversation come up. First and foremost, 1) "I don't have the time for Social Media," and 2) "I am not organized enough" . By far and away the time factor is always discussed and I can safely say that anybody else that I know that delves into the social media management world can say the same. What with technology changing at the speed of light and new apps and droids, and IOS, and tablets, and laptops … (7 comments)

gettyburggerry: Are site's like Zillow and Trulia needed any longer? - 08/25/11 05:20 PM
Are site like Zillow and Trulia needed any longer? While putting together materials for a social media class for Realtors  I will be giving, I was going over some of  my notes on Internet presence, and I noticed that nowhere in my presentation did I mention anything about sites like  Trulia, or Zillow. Now don't get me wrong, I have nothing against either site, and I am not going to be bashing either one, but in reality I have to ask the question...is either site really necessary any longer.  With the Internet the way it is today, and the ability of … (14 comments)

gettyburggerry: Bagpipers Right at Home in Gettysburg Pa - 03/05/11 01:47 PM
Bagpipers Right at Home in Gettysburg Pa

One of the wonderful things about Gettysburg is it's First Friday tradition. Many of the small towns and cities around the Southern Pa area have First Fridays. The events run year round, and the first friday of the month shops and restaurants stay open at night, the art galleries offer wine and cheese to sip and nibble while browsing the gallery, and many of the local pubs and public houses offer something special. I ran into these guys outside of O'Rorks Pub on Steinwehr Ave in the heart of the Steinwehr business district. … (2 comments)

gettyburggerry: Is HGTV Your Local Market Expert - 03/01/11 10:19 AM
Is HGTV Your Local Market ExpertSometimes I wonder about the talking heads of real estate. We all know that real estate information is thrown out from virtually every corner of the known universe. Every body has a blog, a podcast, an ebook, EVERY BODY has a voice these days. Quite frankly I do not know how first time home buyers can ever make a decision with all the "experts" out there. Now don't get me wrong, there is some excellent information, put out by some very intelligent, competent real estate professionals. Then there is the what I like to call "entertainment … (9 comments)

gettyburggerry: Fort McHenry Birthplace of a National Anthem - 02/02/11 10:22 AM
Fort McHenry Birthplace of a National AnthemRecently my wife and I were able to take a day trip down to Baltimore and visit a place I have been wanting to see for a long time. I can now cross Ft. McHenry off my bucket list. Ft.McHenry is in a historic neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland. It is best known for it's role during the War of 1812 as the birthplace of the Star Spangled Banner. The fort was built in the late 1700's to protect the Baltimore harbor, at the time the busiest port in the fledgling United States of America. Fort … (8 comments)

gettyburggerry: Space Heater Safety Tips - 02/01/11 01:06 PM
Space Heater Safety TipsWith the weather around the country worsening it is important that we all stay safe. In these times of extreme cold weather it is important that those who use space heaters as a supplemental way to heat area's in the home do it safely. Underwriters Laboratories Inc reports that the leading cause of house fires during the months of December, January, & February are space heaters. While space heaters are efficient at heating smaller area's of the home, it is important that they are used safely. Living in a historic home I know that  there are area's in … (4 comments)

gettyburggerry: Gettysburg NiteLife - 01/23/11 10:14 AM
Gettysburg NiteLifeLast night it got down to 9 degrees in Gettysburg Pa. It was a Saturday night and I think half the town had the same attitude as my wife and I, let's get out for a bit. Gettysburg has had a mild winter as far as snow is concerned thus far, but it has been cold and those that live in a winter climate understand that "cabin fever" that occasionally sets in . Well apparently there was a mutual consensus among the residents of Gettysburg that last night was the night to cure the fever. A little Gettysburg NiteLife was … (6 comments)

gettyburggerry: Do I Have to do Anything to get my Home Show Ready - 01/22/11 12:51 PM
Do I Have to do Anything to get my Home Show ReadyThis is a conversation that this Gettysburg Realtor has far too often. More often than one would think home owners who are putting their homes on the market fail to really understand what is involved marketing a home for sale, or what their role in that endeavor consists of. Here in Gettysburg Pa  alot of what needs to be done depends on the season winter, spring, summer or fall. Whether it is a single family home, duplex or rental marketing tips cross over and need to be observed for a … (4 comments)

gettyburggerry: The Changing Landscape of Gettysburg Real Estate - 01/21/11 12:52 PM
The Changing Landscape of Gettysburg Real EstateRecently I read an interesting post by Mike Perry concerning the changing landscape of Real Estate in Lancaster County Pa. I was a practicing Realtor in California for years before moving to Gettysburg Pa. Almost immediately I completed the requirements to get my Pa Real Estate license. I have been a Gettysburg Pa Realtor since 2004 and Mikes post got to me thinking about the changes that we here in Gettysburg have seen. In 2004 we had a number of big Real Estateshops in town, RE/Max, ERA, Century 21, Jack Gaughen, Coldwell Banker, as well as … (6 comments)

BofA/Countrywide Settlement - A Step BofA has agreed to a settle the still outstanding claims regarding mortgages it sold to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. BofA paid  $1.28 billion to Freddie Mac, and $1.34 billion to Fannie Mae to cover and settle all claims associated with Countrywide loans, that were poorly underwritten. This action should close the door on any further problems to BofA from it's purchase of Countrywide, which it purchased in Jan of 2008 for 4.1 billion, in an all stock purchase. The purchase came after Countrywide shares fell 15% in a single days trading. The purchase made BofA the … (8 comments)

gettyburggerry: Civil War Era Historic Homes: The Reality - 12/15/10 02:15 PM
Civil War Era Historic Homes: The RealityIt is no surprise that there is an abundance of historic homes here in the Gettysburg, Adams county Pa, area. As a Realtor that specializes in these homes I get numerous inquiries from people from out of the area that are looking for a nice old farmhouse, or something from the Civil War era in the Gettysburg Borough. More often than not the buyers are coming in from out of town, and want to cram as many showings into one day as possible. I set up the showings and off we go, only to have … (9 comments)

Marsh Creek Church is Steeped in History of Gettysburg PaI have been meaning for some time to do some posts on the historic church's of the Gettysburg Adams County Pa area. Many of the Gettysburg area churches are deep in historic lure. From the early 1700's to many churchs that served as Civil War Hospitals.
I would be remiss if I did not begin my series of historic church's of the Gettysburg Adams County Pa are with the Marsh Creek church. The Marsh Creek Church is steeped in history of Gettysburg Pa. The founding of the Presbyterian church at … (5 comments)

gettyburggerry: Holiday Listings – You Can Sell It - 11/29/10 09:09 AM
Holiday Listings – You Can Sell ItListing a home during the holidays can be a difficult task, however there are positives to listing homes during the holidays. Think about this for a minute, the general consensus across the country is that holiday listings are hard to sell. Therefore many clients choose not to list during the holidays for a myriad of different reasons, some don't think the house can be sold during the holiday season, some don't want interruptions while family is visiting during the holiday season, and some simply believe that selling a home in the winter just can't be … (8 comments)
