allegra dioguardi: Hanging Artwork? "Ask the Expert" - 09/08/11 07:02 AM

Recently Published "Ask the Expert" article in Dan's Papers
The Question: We recently repainted the interior of our home. After re-working the furniture arrangement we put it all back into place and are very pleased with our “new look.” We have collected a few nice pieces of art over the years and the last step is to re-hang them. Before we do, are there any “tricks of the trade” as far as how to place artwork that you could share to achieve that “designer look?”

The Answer from Allegra Dioguardi of Styled and Sold: Great question! Good artwork … (12 comments)

I moved to Westhampton Beach, NY one year ago this month. What a wonderful place to live!I feel like I've been here forever.
There is always something going on and so much to do in this beautiful town. In this past year, I joined the Westhampton Beach Chamber of Commerce, I joined and became a Trustee at the Westhampton Beach Historical Society. I was a judge at the Mary O. Fritchie art show right here in town. I marched in the St. Patty's Day Parade. I volunteer and the Farmers Market and I have met and made friends with the nicest … (12 comments)

allegra dioguardi: What is in a name? Home Staging? House Fluffing?? - 11/27/10 06:56 AM
Home Stager, House Fluffer, House Stylist.....
I recall many years ago when I was attending Parsons School of Design we were debating in one of my classes the terms "decorator vs, designer". The professor said "I don't care what they call me, as long as they call me!" Ok, that makes sense. But let's face it, Home Staging is an unregulated industry and the term "stager" means many different things to different people. Different stagers have different talents and areas of expertise that they bring to the table. Folks who hire us, like to know what to expect from us. They … (19 comments)

allegra dioguardi: Home Staging Training Company Comes Clean About Designations - 10/19/10 08:31 AM

An excellent commentary by Melissa Marro on Home Staging Designations. I completely concur with her.
Personally I have been mechandising Real Estate properties since long before it was called "Home Staging", I have a degree in Interior Design and I Stage Naked.
I advocate education. I advocate professionalism. I advocate client relationships and a job well done. I advocate getting Real Estate properties sold!
My Home Staging training program, Staging Training by Design,  offers certification however, certifications means one thing; you care enough about being professional to take a training course and you successfully completed it. What you do with … (4 comments)

allegra dioguardi: Time is Money! Let's Share! - 11/21/09 06:56 AM
As Home Stagers, part of what we do, is to know all of the best resources available at the best prices. In other words, we all tend to be great shoppers.
I know I spend an inordinate amount of time cruising the Internet looking at prices, discounts and deals not to mention the time I spend hoofing it through brick and mortar stores looking for the best prices for my clients. You know the old saying "Time is money"  and it's been my experience that the folks I meet here at Active Rain are very generous as far sharing information, so … (23 comments)

allegra dioguardi: Anouncing Staging Training by Design - 09/04/09 09:53 AM

I am very pleased to announce my latest endeavor! Home Staging Training by Design with Allegra Dioguardi.
After 3 and half years of fielding requests from prospective Stagers asking me to recommend a Home Staging training program, I’ve decided to offer training myself. I have 27 years of experience designing homes to sell and 20 of those years I spent also teaching model home merchandisers. After years of trial and error, I devised a “system” to teach the principles of designing to sell that works!  I am aware of all of the unscrupulous training programs out there that make empty … (11 comments)

allegra dioguardi: Enhancing Property Value with Curb Appeal- Honey! Stop the Car! I could live here! - 05/01/09 08:07 AM
We know how important curb appeal is when you home is for sale, but where do you begin?  Here is a checklist for the exterior of your home and a few tips on some inexpensive things you can do to make your home for sale stand out from the competition on the listing photos and entice buyers to pull the car over and take a look. The yard and surrounding environment should be well maintained and visually appealing (no trash cans!).  The home itself must be in good repair and appear freshly painted.  A new welcome mat, house number and mailbox will … (11 comments)

I've returned from a successful open house today from my recent staging (see previous blog)and the sun is setting on the pond....the light in the Hamptons is world reknown!

I'm essentially reblogging my own article that appeared in Dan's Papers today (a periodical with a large circulation in the Hamptons) at Dan'sHampton.com.
I've included a few additional photos from the job.

allegra dioguardi: My First Vacant Staging Completed in the Hamptons - 03/22/09 08:01 AM
Re-introduced after Staging- 21 Bay Road, Quogue, NY
Now that Spring has sprung the Hamptons have come back to life and  after much "a do" I have finally installed my first vacant staging in my new area under my own company name Styled and Sold..
This beautiful home has been on the market for over 1 year. The Realtor. Marcia Altman,  of Brown Harris Stevens is creative and savvy enough to recognize that the home would benefit from Staging. Before staging, people had been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of the sizable rooms. Now, the home is staged creating a cozier … (40 comments)

allegra dioguardi: The Psychology of Color - 03/02/09 10:32 AM
Greetings! I just finished an article I am writing for the Interior Design issue of a local periodical here in the Hamptons on The Psychology of Color. I am posting it for your purusal and look forward to your comments. As Home Stagers we all ove color and it can be helpful to establish ourselves as experts if we know a little about the science of color.
While doing some research I found a fun quiz on color, I thought it was amazingly accurate (and fun) for such a short questionnaire. You can take it here:http://www.truevaluepaint.com/content/Color/ColorQuiz.aspx.
What is your color?

allegra dioguardi: Increasing Property Value with Curb Appeal - 02/18/09 10:32 AM
I just finished writing a 400 word article for a luxury home magazine on curb appeal. Thought I'd share it in case anyone needs some stats on curb appeal or some ammunition for convincing a reticent client. Enjoy!
"Curb appeal” is the overall impression of your home when you first approach it; the exterior appearance of the house and the way it is landscaped and maintained, it is the total presentation. A well maintained home with beautiful landscaping suggests that a home has been well taken care of and loved; it increases the perception of the value of the home.  If … (7 comments)

allegra dioguardi: Are You Merchandising Your Clients Home? - 02/07/09 08:58 AM

Greetings fellow Home Staging Professionals! I just came across some material that I used when I trained designers in the Model Home Industry. It made me think about how it applies to us, particularly in this economy.  Effective Home Staging is not so much about "neutralizing" a home, but creating a home that inspires and one that a potential buyer will fall in love with. I never underestimate the importance of 'love at first sight" when merchandising a home to sell.
I submit this to you for your perusal and welcome your comments.
