Halloween for Adults in Ellicott City. - 10/31/08 09:36 AM
Halloween is certainly a holiday for children, but that does not mean that adults can not have fun too.

Start your evening off by watching the parade of costume dressed children enjoying the abundance of candy being given out by store-owners along Main Street.

Usually I can be found on the steps of Tersiguel's with a lovely glass of red wine in my hand, watching all of the fun, but this year I think a certain pumpkin will be taking me on a "walk-about"

As that event wraps up be sure to head back to Tersiguels for … (3 comments)

My "Fan of the day" award- John Hurly. - 10/30/08 09:40 AM
The Philadelphia Phillies became the winner of the 2008 World Series Wednesday evening defeating the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 4 games to 1. Fans went wild over the rain delayed game that was stopped Monday night because of the downpour and the series was finally concluded last night.
The Phillies have not won a world series since 1980.
Not that I really cared a hoot about the outcome or even realized that it was ongoing. Maybe if it was the Reds or the Orioles (Fat chance). I live in Maryland after all.
However it was refreshing this morning at the office to be … (2 comments)

I guess I am not as old as I think I am! - 10/29/08 09:11 PM
It's been a long day. 2 listing appointments this morning and 9 home showings this afternoon with a new buyer. Busy busy busy.
Add to that a rambunctious two year old who wants to play with Mummy when she gets home and you better believe I am tuckered out when dyno kid finally goes to bed!

At 8.15pm my assistant called me from the gym. While on the treadmill he had read the local rag. My all time favorite English singer, Billy Bragg was playing at the "Rams Head Live" in Baltimore. "Call and see what time he goes on" he said.

...and you thought you were having a bad day! - 10/28/08 09:54 PM
Someone went to a great deal of trouble to let a "cheater" know that the game was up and the gloves were off.

There is probably a very nice car beneath all of these incriminating black and white pictures. Thankfully it is being well preserved with a few dozen rolls of cling wrap.
I wonder how long it took to unwrap this lovely gift?

Halloween "TRICK OR TREAT" in Historic Ellicott City, Maryland. - 10/28/08 01:24 PM
A great start to the Halloween fun and games is always in Historic Ellicott City.

For the eleven years that I have lived in this area I have enjoyed this annual event. All the store owners fill baskets with candy and are swamped with little ghouls, Princesses and Spidermen. (Pumpkins too!) It is an event that is enjoyable to watch as well as participate.
Here are some pictures from 2007

There is plenty of Candy to go around.

Lots of great costumes

Some Parents too get into the spirit.
The event ends at 6pm, so there is … (2 comments)

Obama Assassination plot foiled. - 10/27/08 10:17 PM
The evening news (Monday October 27th)is reporting that an assassination plot to kill Barack Obama was thwarted.
Two white supremacist skinheads were arrested in Tennessee over plans to go on a killing spree and eventually shoot the Democratic presidential candidate, court documents showed on Monday.
With the election a week away and with both the candidates hot on the trail across the USA, lets hope that this was not a sign of the times and everyone makes it to the polls.

It's time for new headshots. - 10/27/08 09:47 PM
It's pretty bad when my clients ask if they will see the same picture this year on their yearly calendar!!!!
The picture that you see at the side of this blog has done some mileage. It was taken pre-baby, even pre pregnancy and has served me well, but it seemed like a good time for a change. ("Baby" is now "little man"!!!!)
Amy, a client of mine raved about a recent photo shoot that she and her 3 month old bundle of joy, Amanda had taken by a local photographer, Vanessa in Ellicott City. I live my life by referrals and when my client sent me … (7 comments)

Gas prices have just gone crazy! - 10/22/08 02:43 PM
I wrote a post last week about my euphoria of finding the local gas station selling gas for my gas guzzler at a mere $2.99 per gallon. What a treat that was.
Today I could hardly contain myself when I passed the Exon Mobil station at the Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover, Maryland and the posted price was only $2.59 per gallon.

Even better was that I only had a smidge over a quarter of a tank. It cost me less than $50 to fill up my vehicle.

Haunted House in Bowie, Maryland. - 10/21/08 11:19 AM

If you want to be scared to death and have some good family fun, head to the Bowie Baysox stadium for the Annual Haunted House. For seven years this area event has enjoyed the facilities at the stadium, but this has been an area fixture for 22 years.
Due to the nature of the images and themes in the production, it has been rated PG-13, unsuitable for children under 13 without the supervision of an adult. Parental discretion is highly encouraged and advised.
Portions of the ticket sales are donated to local charities. In the last eight years, Tulip Gulch Productions … (3 comments)

Should the right to VOTE become compulsory. - 10/21/08 10:33 AM

Only 2 weeks till the 2008 Election Day. Have you registered to VOTE?
I proudly "Pledged Allegiance to the Flag" in 2004 and as a new American Citizen I registered to vote within the first month of my Citizenship. The first time I voted in this Country was in the primaries. I can still recall that day 4 years ago, how proud I was, how I shed a personal tear because of the journey I had taken and how I wore my "I voted" sticker for the entire day.
As American Citizens it is our duty to vote.

The quirks of Ellicott City, Maryland. - 10/21/08 10:00 AM
My son and I took a walk through Ellicott City recently, which is something we do on a regular basis. This particular day the parking situation was tough on the main street, so I finally found a space at the parking lot that sits beside the railway track and the Patapsco River.
Something caught my eye in the river. Here are our pictures of some strange sights.

The rocks have been carefully selected and then piled on top of one another.

These rocks almost seem to defy gravity.

23rd Annual Taste & Auction of Howard County - 10/19/08 02:32 PM
What a lovely way to spend a Sunday evening in October.
Tonight is the 23rd Annual event held at Turf Valley in Ellicott City. A spectacular evening filled with entertainment and a HUGE silent auction. Enjoy tastings of food from many local Restaurants. The longest line is ALWAYS for the "Crepe Suzette" prepared in front of your eyes by Fernand Tersiguel from Tersiguel's French Restaurant in Ellicott City.
This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Gilchrist Hospice Care.

It's about time! - 10/15/08 07:57 PM
I guess I have been driving around oblivious to the changes in gas prices lately. I was aware it was not as horrific as in recent months, but I almost ran into a lamp post when I noticed the marquee at this gas station today.

The first number for "regular" is no longer a three.

Active Rain- So powerful it brings friends and families back together. - 10/13/08 01:29 PM
A warm and fuzzy tale about the power of Active Rain
I was out and about showing homes on Friday in Columbia, Maryland. Once all the showings were complete and I had said farewell to my clients I checked my phone for any activity. My rule of thumb is that I put my PDA phone on vibrate and leave it in the car while showing homes. (I always carry a smaller phone with me on showings for basic safety reasons)
Along with three missed calls was a number with a different area code that I did not recognize on the call log. I checked my … (9 comments)

Do I REALLY use my cell phone that much? - 10/09/08 08:21 AM
I remember back in the good old days, long before my Real Estate career, when I purchased my first cell phone.
Don't worry this is not a tale about the big bulky cell phones that weighed a ton and could only hold a charge for 30 minutes or so- I was not that progressive! I think I held out till 1997!
Prior to that I had traveled the world on and off for 10 years with a backpack on my back and a secret stash of local currency to make that once a week phone call home.
Back to 2008. My … (30 comments)

Fells Point Festival- October 4th & 5th. - 10/04/08 12:16 PM
What a glorious Fall weekend to take a trip down to Fells Point in Baltimore City.
This is the 42nd annual outdoor street festival held in Baltimore's original deep water seaport, Fell's Point. The festival was originally started as a way to raise funds and draw attention to Fell's Point when the area was slated for demolition due to highway construction. The Fell's Point Fun Festival continues that tradition, showcasing historic Fell's Point, it's businesses, its charming 18th and 19th century residences, and Baltimore City life.
