I LUV Southwest Airlines. - 02/27/10 07:44 AM
On Wednesday of this week everyone was talking about the impending storm heading towards Maryland, It even had a name. "Snow-i-cane 2010"
My family and I had tickets to fly to Florida on Thursday afternoon with Southwest Airlines. One very short phone call, a very pleasant customer service agent and we were re-booked at no further expense on an earlier flight that would miss all of the gale force winds and snow.
Perfect.
We arrived in Florida early in the day on Thursday and was greeted by warm sunshine and a cloudless bright blue sky.
The snow and wind did not … (18 comments)

Funny Friday- More Snow! - 02/26/10 08:25 AM
In honor of yet more snow in the Baltimore Metro area.
A blonde got lost in her car in a snow storm. She remembered what her dad had once told her. "If you ever get stuck in a snow storm, wait for a snow plow and follow it".Pretty soon a snow plow came by, and she started to follow it. She followed the plow for about forty-five minutes. Finally the driver of the truck got out and asked her what she was doing. She explained that her dad had told her if she ever got stuck in the snow, to follow a plow. The … (20 comments)

Using Facebook or Twitter could raise your insurance premiums by 10% - 02/23/10 11:38 AM
Social networking has become part of our day to day life and our business plan. Now it seems it may be detrimental to our wallets.
A news article Creepy insurance company pulls coverage due to Facebook pics highlighted a health insurance company that denied the claim of a Canadian woman who claimed to be out of work due to a deep depression, yet had pictures on Facebook of her having a good time at her birthday party.

Columbia, Maryland Market reports for January 2010 - 02/22/10 10:37 AM
Columbia, Maryland is a great place to call home.
Columbia, Maryland is a planned community in the heart of Howard County that consists of ten self contained villages. It is considered a suburb of Baltimore and somewhat close enough to Washington DC to call Columbia home and commute on a daily basis. Located close to Interstate 95 and serviced by The MARC train these Metro areas are easily accessed.
Opened in 1967, Columbia was designed to not only eliminate the inconveniences of then-current subdivision design, but also eliminate racial, religious, and income segregation.  Columbia offers great schools, community activities, parks, rec centers … (2 comments)

Valet Parking-Catonsville's FULL SERVICE pre school. - 02/17/10 07:27 PM
Finally our children in Howard County and Baltimore County went back to school today. The first school day since February 5th (and that was a half day!!!)
"But it stopped snowing last Thursday" you may say!
Well, yes this is true, but the extreme amounts of snow in Maryland have created a nightmare for the school system. The parking lots (for teachers to park in) have not been cleared. The sidewalks have not been cleared, so the "walkers" are in danger and there is no-where for the children to stand at the usual "bus stops"

Did you know that NAME RIDERS have MULTIPLE uses? - 02/15/10 10:26 PM
I am sure very few people have missed the recent news on the huge amounts of snow that the MD/VA/DC region has endured. It is going to be sometime before the snow melts.
Cindy Jones penned Dear Mr. Lender-I Was Going to Show Your Listing Today with tales of her snow experience.
I am currently working with buyers who do not have a lot of time to wait for the snow to melt or the listing agent to shovel the paths. We headed out to visit 6 listings.
Two had clean passage to the front door. The others were more of an expedition. … (77 comments)

Catonsville celebrates Presidents Day in style....and snow. - 02/15/10 09:44 PM
One of the reasons I love being a resident of Catonsville, Maryland is the observance of holidays.
July 4th is legendary with one of the best "Independance Day" parades in the area and a firework display that is spectacular.
On other holidays during the year that the flag is flown, like today, Presidents Day, the main street of Catonsville, Frederick Road, is ablaze with the "Stars and Stripes" on the parking meters.
Today was no exception, but the delivery was probably more of a challenge than usual. Due to the almost 3 feet of snow in the past 10 days, the walls … (11 comments)

Residential Home Resale statistics for Howard County- January 2010 - 02/15/10 09:19 PM
Howard County, Maryland

Interestingly the Real Estate market in Howard County remains vibrant. January of 2010 was stronger than January of 2009, but unlike many of the Metro Baltimore Counties in Maryland, the decrease of sales in comparison to the strong December was not as dramatic.
A healthy amount of listings were activated in January 2010

Baltimore County, Maryland experienced a strong sales January in comparison with January of 2009. Compared to December of 2009 sales declined quite significantly, yet average sale price as a percentage of average list price remained very similar. New listings taken in January were a third more than listings taken in December.

Anne Arundel County, MD

January of 2010 was a much stronger Real Estate Market in Anne Arundel County than the previous year. Sales were up in comparison. However there is a drastic difference between the sales volume of January compared to the volume of December 2009. The average sale price as a percentage of average list price has decreased again to 88.42%
New Listings have seen a dramatic increase and I imagine a lot of sellers have decided to take advantage of the potential tax credits available.

Baltimore City Government declare a phase 3 snow emergency. - 02/10/10 10:00 AM
Baltimore City has just declared a phase 3 snow emergency throughout the entire City.
Twitter sites are tweeting up a storm.
Only City approved emergency vehicles are allowed on the streets and all vehicles currently parked in a snow route have or will be towed, regardless of parking permits.
All of the local news channels are reporting that the heaviest part of the storm has not yet reached this area.
It seems that Maryland is experiencing a record snowfall for this winter season- is breaking a historic record supposed to make us feel any better?

Do you have a Valentine? How about sending a care package to a deployed soldier in the Middle East? - 02/09/10 10:22 AM
Won't you be my Valentine?
It's been almost 7 years since the Iraq War began on March 20th 2003. The struggle in Afganistan has been ongoing since 2001. Our media stations no longer dedicate great chunks of news time to what is happening overseas, but yet our military continue to fight for our freedom.
Today I headed to Target to pick up a care package to send to Iraq. My nephew, Nick, is currently serving in Iraq. He is a company Commander on his second tour of duty in the war zone.

Superbowl Sunday- What was your favorite commercial? - 02/08/10 06:24 PM
The 2009 NFL season concluded last night with the XLIV Superbowl played in Miami.

Historically this is usually a blow out game and most Superbowl parties I have attended everyone loses interest at half time when the outcome is obvious. This was not the case yesterday. It was a gripping game all the way to the end.
Personally I was very happy to see the New Orleans Saints being victorious. My son was named after a mixture of Drew Bledsoe & Drew Brees in the hope he follows in their Quarterback footsteps!!!!

All they want to do is buy a house. - 02/08/10 02:55 PM
I have been working with a delightful couple who are so readyto buy a home. They are not over picky, they are not discouraged by wallpaper, old appliances or general mess. They have a great attitude and they would like to be under contract as soon as possible
WHY CAN'T THEY ALL BE THIS EASY?
They have their pre-approval in hand, they have their 3.5% down payment, but they do need closing help to get the deal done. They both currently live with parents, but they are getting married soon and want to settle on a house before the "Big Day".

Catonsville under 25+ inches of snow. - 02/06/10 01:49 PM
All the local news channels in the Baltimore area are eagerly awaiting to see if this major snow storm will top the record of 28.2 inches set in 2003.
WBAL TV, WJZ and ABC2 News are sending out their news reporters to convey the conditions across the area. They pretty much are all saying the same thing. "It's deep and wet, the roads are impassable and it's not going to stop for a while"

The Winter Wallop- Here comes the snow to Maryland. - 02/05/10 03:01 PM

The local weather channel are calling it the "Winter Wallop". They are predicting anything between 12 inches to 40 inches. It's a mighty storm heading our way. My three year old is only 38 inches high, I hope it's the former.
The grocery store at 7:30am was a zoo (yes, I was there too!) The parking lot was packed and the shelves were looking bare.
It started to snow at noon- like they said it would. It is now 4pm and it's only just starting to stick, but it is coming down quite heavily now.

Age restricted communities are really pushing the envelope. - 02/05/10 01:50 PM
Over the past decade, home developers have responded to the demand for age restricted communities. Although in essence the concept seems to violate all Fair Housing restrictions, certain exemptions were carved out to allow for age-restricted communities under the Housing For Older Persons Act of 1995
55+ communities have become quite prevalent on the real estate landscape.

Most of the nation will be glued to the TV watching the festivities and more importantly watching the advertisements during the breaks.
The cost of a 30-second spot for Super Bowl I in 1967 was $42,500 on CBS and $37,500 on NBC. (It was the only time the game was broadcast on two networks). Twenty years and 20 games later, the cost had spiraled to $600,000. For this year's game, CBS is asking $2.6 million.
