2011 December Blogging Challenge ~ One last day in the year to get down to some business.31 days of posting is coming to an end. One of my New Years Resolutions is to keep up the momentum and not crash and burn like a kid on a sugar high. In the past, participation in the marathon contests has been replaced by a long period of lethargy and lack of posting. NOT THIS TIME.Active Rain is very good for business. Enjoying the hidden delights of the Patapsco Valley State Park in Catonsville. - 12/30/11 10:30 PM
The hidden delights of the Patapsco State Park in Catonsville.

Many people that know me are aware of the speed that I usually travel through life. In my past I regretfully admit that I experienced Niagara Falls for all of 6 minutes and the Grand Canyon for a whopping 15. I am embarrassed to say how fast I have sped through some of the worlds most coveted museums and national treasures! Thankfully the past 5 years a certain young man has slowed my pace down somewhat, but still I am quite an impatient person by nature. In the Metropolitan Baltimore … (1 comments)

So what is all the fuss about Catonsville, Md for? Life is great in 21228! - 12/29/11 10:39 PM
So what is all the fuss about Catonsville, Md for?

Yesterday I wrote a post that essentially was about buyers that I am working with who have relocated to the area and have decided that they want to find a home in the Historic area of Catonsville. I want to live in Historic Catonsville, but I can't find a home!  An area that is rich in history, has lower taxes than the sister County of Howard County, enjoys great schools, lots of parklands and so much more. (Do you have an hour or so? I could talk about so many … (6 comments)

I want to live in Historic Catonsville, but I can't find a home! - 12/28/11 09:26 PM
I want to live in Historic Catonsville, but I can't find a home! This is the lament heard lately. If you are a buyer looking to purchase a great home in the "Lower Catonsville" area ~ The Catonsville High School district, then you are probably quite frustrated at the moment. In the past few months there have been limited new listings that are priced correctly and convey the essence of Historic Catonsville. The good ones are snapped up very quickly at very near to full price...... What amenities are in Western Howard County? ~ Waverly Woods Village Center. - 12/26/11 09:32 PM
Waverly Woods Village Center is the convenient resource location for Western Howard County residents in areas such as Woodstock, West Friendship and Marriottsville. Located a few miles outside of Ellicott City and quickly accessed from Interstate 70 off of Marriottsville Road, it provides a decent range of services, restaurants and general shopping.

December’s Season of Celebrations & Sharing ~ Christmas morning in our home - 12/25/11 09:14 AM
Every family has different traditions and in our humble home we probably do not do it "The American Way". Despite nearing 25 years years of being in the USA the traditions of my own childhood prevail. Our Christmas Day has begun. The big Guy in red obviously stopped by in the middle of the night and enjoyed the Mince Pies and gave the carrots to the Reindeer. We call him Father Christmas and although he arrives in the middle of the night, he fills a sack that sits at the bottom of the bed.
The squealing 5 year old child wakes … (12 comments)

December's season of celebration and sharing ~ Following Santa on his busiest Day of the year. - 12/24/11 11:28 AM
The magic of Christmas is alive and well in our home. "Ralph", our Elf has been watching over all month to make sure that everyone has been very good. Thankfully he has only been reporting back good things. The excitement is starting to build as Christmas Day has already began in some parts of the world. So far this morning on the East Coast we have tracked Santa heading across Australasia and Asia. The wonders of technology and Google Earth enable every child to watch the progress of the Big Guy as he heads towards the USA.Check here to see where Santa … (11 comments)

December’s Season of Celebrations & Sharing ~ A sweet farewell to our Troops from Baltimore. - 12/22/11 10:34 PM
As we plan and prepare for the holidays, shop and bake, wrap and write Christmas cards, it's easy to forget that there is so much outside our little bubble. I imagine many of us have made donations to charities, bought gifts for "Toys for Tots" or even sponsored a family, which is what we did at  Keller Williams Realty Centre of Greater Howard County. many of us  make our contribution and then we focus on our own festivities.Spare a thought for the brave men and women of our armed forces who are not afforded the simple joy of spending the holidays … (6 comments)

An update on the real estate market in the Baltimore Metro area. - 12/21/11 12:46 PM
The "Baltimore Metro Area market watch" remains quite upbeat as the year comes to a close. In general the Counties surrounding Baltimore City and the City itself collectively are showing improvement in sales and inventory.Out here in the trenches the well priced homes are getting a lot of activity and in some cases multiple offers. Days on Market seem to be decreasing and well qualified buyers are out searching for their new home. The regional job growth adds to the marketability of the area. A quote from Governor O'Malley yesterday on Facebook shows that Maryland is heading in the right direction.Since … (2 comments)

How many short sale sellers are gaming the system? - 12/20/11 10:34 PM

We all know that a " short sale" is anything but short. It should be renamed a "painfully long" sale.

No matter how many short sales you do, there is never a foolproof formula. Personally I have closed some short sales in less than 60 days from listing date to settlement & then others have taken months and months with a buyer just getting fed up with the games and promises and walking away.

I have a Title Company (Sage Title in Ellicott City) who successfully negotiate my short sales. Three times a week they make … (28 comments)

December’s Season of Celebrations & Sharing ~ Symphony of Lights in Columbia, Maryland - 12/19/11 09:39 PM
Are you all ready for the holidays and just waiting for the big day? I am jealous, but I hear there are organized people out there.

Now you can relax. There is no better way to get into the festive mood by taking some time during the evening and a drive to Columbia, Md. There you can enjoy a leisurely drive through the "Symphony of Lights" at Mereweather Post Pavilion and make a nice donation to Johns Hopkins Hospital at the same time.

How to Size up a Home in 8 Minutes or Less - 12/19/11 03:25 PM
The joy of being a Realtor is that every buyer is different. Different needs, personalities and ways that they look at a potential new home. This post from Brian Block is a wonderful way to approach the home search.
Via Brian Block -- Northern Virginia & D.C. Real Estate (RE/MAX Allegiance, Managing Broker/Branch Vice President):
You should take your time when searching for a home.
That's worth repeating:  You should take your time when searching for a home.

December’s Season of Celebrations & Sharing ~ WHAT IS YOUR ELF'S NAME? - 12/16/11 09:40 PM
So what is your Elf's name.

I need to start this post with "I wish I had thought of that!"

Do you have an "Elf on the Shelf" in your home? If you don't have any idea what I am talking about then you probably don't have small children or Grandchildren.

It's the "must have" in every home that celebrates Christmas. I am not sure how long it has been popular, but it's just this year that the threat and magic of Santa Clause has become real.

So back to the Elf. For a mere $30 … (6 comments)

Howard County Residential Home Resale Statistics - November 2011 - 12/14/11 09:44 PM
Who says homes are not selling in Howard County?  The monthly statistics for November 2011 are looking healthy in almost all categories. Units sold have increased over November 2010 and the average sold to list price ratio has increased to 93%. These statistics are not really a surprise as buyers relocating to Central Maryland  are doing their homework and selecting Howard County as the area that they want to call home. As an active agent in the Howard County area I am in the trenches. There is limited inventory in certain areas and a lot of buyers looking to move into … (0 comments)

Lucky for you my Client is NOT a DEA agent. - 12/13/11 07:31 AM
Lucky for you my client is not a DEA agent. This weekend was a marathon of Buyers and MANY homes viewed. Big homes, small homes, nice homes and not so nice homes across Metro Baltimore. It's part of the job.....and the part that I REALLY love. What is really funny about when you show lots of homes in one day, how one item appears in many homes- sometimes it is the same board game in 3 different homes, ("Life" and "Scrabble" are usual contenders) or an unused "Ab Lounger" tucked away in at least 2 basements. My record was 4 homes out of … (10 comments)

December’s Season of Celebrations & Sharing ~ The Holidays are starting a little late in our home. - 12/06/11 09:15 PM
For as long as I can remember from childhood to present day, there has always been an Advent Calendar to count down the days of December until Christmas Eve arrives. An Advent calendar is a special calendar which is used to count or celebrate the days of  Advent in anticipation of ChristmasWhat a delight it was to wake up every morning and open another window and enjoy a delicious piece of Cadbury's chocolate (albeit not the most nutritious start to the day!)- it was another day closer to Christmas. As an adult it has always symbolized the traditions that I had as a child, … (10 comments)

December’s Season of Celebrations & Sharing ~ Walk to Bethlehem via Ellicott City - 12/03/11 12:51 PM
As a child in grade school I remember the excitement this time of year as the teachers selected who would have the good parts in the school nativity play. I don't recall ever being anything more important than a shepherd, but the event itself was always an enjoyable part of the term. The Nativity story is something that I have read to my son from a very young age, but there is something very special about seeing it with your very own eyes.
