There are few of us who are not feeling scathed by the Real Estate market of the last two to three years. We've taken our lumps, cried our tears of frustration, and those of us left standing go through the days hoping for the best, trying to hang on for an even longer haul.
Sometimes it seems it will never end and we want to just give up. But if we've made it through this far....well, we can't! Looking for the positive is all we can do sometimes - and a fountainhead of the positive can be found right in front of us: New Realtors.
I am lucky to have a bright energetic new Realtor in my office, Annette Rescigno, and all the time spent sharing my knowledge with her is rewarded by the unbridled enthusiasm she shows for her new career. Times are tough? She's up for the challenge with a fresh outlook, bright eyes and most importantly of all - energy.
My Broker Ed Maccaro and I had a most invigorating day with Annette yesterday, going along with her to sign up her first listing. She also had her first accepted offer this week, and came into the day with a "nothing can stop me" attitude, and I believe nothing will. Have we forgotten everyone has to live somewhere? Deals are done and she's out to find them with the innocence of a child hunting grasshoppers. Jump away from her? She'll chase after!
We were stuck in traffic in Salem, MA as the world arrived to find a Halloween costume on a picture perfect Columbus Day weekend.......not pleasant. But Annette had us laughing with her joy and ideas - "Hey, we could open the car windows and pass out our cards - Hi, I'm Annette from Century 21, do you need to sell your house?"
After the listing appointment was through, we took back roads to the Topsfield office (to avoid the Topsfield Fair traffic.... I mean, how much can you take!) We stopped at Farmer Browns in Middleton for a cup of soup, and in our way celebrated a milestone of a new agent - the first listing. But I was left thinking that the important thing for me that day was a lesson learned through the eyes of someone new to the business. This is a great way to make a living - we have an important service to offer, especially in these tough times, and being together on the Real Estate road during a sunshiny October day is not something I am ready to give up on.
Blessings for the road ahead - it's a two way street, not a dead end. Energize with a new agent and rediscover why YOU got into the business in the first place.
