Pressure (Stopped By A Cop) - 05/28/10 12:23 PM
I got pulled over by a police officer the other day. Before I tell you why and how it turned out ... Have you ever been pulled over before? How did you feel when you first saw those lights flashing behind you? Were you nervous? Did you start sweating? And then were you wondering why you got pulled over in the first place? Or did you already know why and for what you were stopped for? And if you did, did you find yourself formulating a response? Did you find yourself thinking about what to say as the officer was walking … (1 comments)

Ready for another test in the "Testing Your Knowledge of the Mother Lode" series? Well even if you aren't, how could I leave out Sonora after all? Sonora has an incredible past. Let's find out how much you know about it (or don't know):
1. One year prior to what is considered to be the first "official" find, gold was discovered in Sonora in 1848 by: (a) S. S. Bradford; (b) Joe and Seamon Cabezut; (c) E. C. Frisbie; (d) the Macomber brothers.
2. During the Gold Rush days thousands of miners left town when a state tax was levied against … (0 comments)

There's No Place Like Home - 05/26/10 12:27 PM
I went on vacation recently to the place I grew up. It was my old stomping grounds I visited (with my family) ~ the Bay Area ~ where I played Little League baseball, where I graduated from high school, where I met and married my wife, Kim, and my son, Michael, was born. There are just a whole lot of memories that can flood your mind when you go back home. (Isn't it true?) And there was one other thing I was reminded of by my going back: There's no place like home. I'm talking about my home now (in the … (0 comments)

Mother Lode Homeowner Tip #19: Spring Cleaning - 05/25/10 03:25 PM
Whether you’re planning to move or just want to organize your household, now is a good time to “weed out” unwanted items. As a rule of thumb, discard anything you haven’t used in 12 months, especially clothing you don’t wear or items your children have outgrown.
1. Throw away broken-down, worn-out items.
2. Get rid of old magazines by offering them to a hospital, school, nursing home or daycare center.
3. Recycle newspapers or use them for lighting fires or covering things while painting or cleaning.
4. Dispose of all expired medications by pouring them down the toilet.
Call a local … (0 comments)

Dispensable - 05/24/10 01:26 PM
What did the world do without us? I mean, go back about a hundred and twenty years or so in time in your mind (just to be safe) and not a one of us was here. Right? Now go forward about a hundred and twenty years or so in time in your mind (just to be safe again) and not a one of us here right now will be here then. Makes you feel a little bit less important, doesn't it? Humility isn't a bad thing. It's actually the first step towards greatness. (To read the first part of this series: … (0 comments)

Indispensable - 05/21/10 05:45 PM
If you aren't there, does anybody notice, care or ask, "Where is he/she?"? When you get out of the shower and there is no towel, that's indispensable. When you eat french fries and there is no ketchup, that's indispensable. When you change the baby and there is no diaper, that's indispensable. If we would manage these challenging times (and we will) we need to be the towel, ketchup, diaper (not suggesting anything here). Show yourself to be "absolutely necessary." It's not just about what you do. It's about your character, too. (Pass the ketchup, please.) … (3 comments)

Things That Make Me Mad - 05/14/10 01:27 PM
You've been mad before. Sure you have. Are you mad now? (I hope not at me.) It's interesting the whole subject of being mad or going from not being mad to being mad and what causes "madness" (not insanity) to overtake us. When I stub my toe, I get mad. I say, "Who left that stupid book on the floor?" When the guy driving in front of me is going too slow, I get mad. I say, "Doesn't he know the speed limit?" When my favorite baseball player drops the ball, I get mad. I say, "Fire the manager." :P And … (0 comments)

Home Search the Mobile Way - 05/12/10 01:14 PM
I purchased an iPod touch recently. The iPod touch is an iPhone without the phone and fee (for those of you that didn't know). It works wirelessly so you need to be in range of a wireless network to go online. One of the many things you can do with an iPod touch (aside from listening to music, surfing the web, checking your stocks and playing Pac-man lite) ~ you can search for homes, too! There are a number of mobile applications you can use including Zillow, Trulia and Realtor.com. I tried out the Realtor.com application and really liked it. (BTW, … (0 comments)

3 Things I Learned About Blogging from Sarah Palin - 05/10/10 12:11 PM
Did I catch your attention / upset you with the title? Hate her or love her, Sarah Palin is in the spotlight. (Ya think?) When she speaks people listen - have an opinion - get up in arms - cheer or yell / scream (ahhhhh!). It wasn't too long ago that Mrs. Palin was a "nobody" in Alaska. Now she's a "somebody" in America (at least with some). Her book, "Going Rogue," broke the all time record for non-fiction pre-release sales. She was even included in Time Magazine's recent 100 Most Influential People list (along with Lady Gaga, Bill Clinton, Oprah … (6 comments)

What Do Moms Like Best on Mother's Day? (15 things) - 05/05/10 03:38 PM
We're celebrating moms this coming Sunday and so I was thinking about the various gifts that they receive on Mother's Day and the ones they like the best. I tried to rank them in an order keeping in mind what my own mom would probably most prefer (especially the top 5). It might be different with yours, but I'm hoping I came pretty close to how you would list these yourself. So here I go answering the question... What Do Moms Like Best on Mother's Day? How to Make Today a "Good Ol' Day" - 05/04/10 02:05 PM
"I remember the good ol' days." Have you ever heard anyone say that? Have you ever said it yourself (or thought it)? Maybe recently? Of course, this is a real estate blog where I write about real estate, too ~ but there's application no matter what your career, status or lot in life if you keep reading on. (I promise.) Usually in challenging times there's the tendency to think about days gone by. True? (It's a challenging time in real estate.) There's also the tendency to "romanticize" the past ~ make it "larger than life" and more than what it really … (0 comments)
