The Top 10 Super Bowl Scores (closest games) - 01/31/11 05:48 PM
The Pittsburgh Steelers are taking on the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV (45). Will it be a close game or will it be a blow out? My two cents says it's gonna be close. I give the nod to the Steelers (even though the Packers are picked) only because they've got "Big Ben" Roethlisberger at quarterback. (I have nothing against the Packers. They've had a great year.) So what about the closest Super Bowl games of the past? I've come up with a list of them below. (Can you guess the closest score before looking?) Thanks to SuperBowlHistory.net for … (1 comments)

How "The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe" Got Her Home - 01/26/11 12:40 PM
There was an old woman, Who lived in a shoe; She had so many children, She didn't know what to do. She gave them some broth, Without any bread; She whipped them all soundly, And sent them to bed. (The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe)
At first read this well known nursery rhyme seems harmless enough. But then a closer look raises a few questions (and eyebrows). I know, I know. The spanking part some folks have a problem with. But that's not what I'm focusing on here. It's way before that ~ to the actual "home" purchasing … (0 comments)

How NOT to Dominate Your Market (3 points) - 01/20/11 04:24 PM
Who's dominating your market? What I mean by that is: Who's the go-to guy (gal) that people look to in your area first before anyone else? I'll give you a minute to think. (Somebody coming to your mind?)
Now if this person has a name different than yours, I was thinking about offering you an exhortation to overtake them. Then I thought better of it. Because, the truth is, you would really rather remain in the position you're in. Right? You would really rather play second, third (fourth, fifth or sixth) fiddle. You would really rather receive the scraps falling … (2 comments)

You Quit - 01/18/11 01:30 PM
It’s Monday morning (or whatever morning you want). And you’ve had it. There’s just no way you’re gonna do it another day. You’re done. You’re through. You’re not putting up with it anymore. You’re not going to be the pee on. You’re not going to be the misfit. You’re not going to be the outsider. You’re not going to be laughed at, ridiculed, overlooked, black-balled. Never again. Today is the day you quit. Every feel like it? Have I expressed your feelings even a fraction of the way you might have? Maybe? Now get to the office (or wherever you go) … (4 comments)

Snow Cave Survival - 01/14/11 12:46 PM
When my wife was growing up she needed to learn how to build a snow cave. (She grew up in Minnesota.) The kids in her grade school class were each given a can, a candle, a candy bar and matches. Of course, the can was for digging, the candle was for light and warmth, the candy bar was for food and the matches (well). Beyond that, you could use the can for holding snow and the candle for melting snow. You would then have water to drink. It's amazing what you can do with the simplest things in order to survive. … (1 comments)

13 Excuses People Use - 01/12/11 12:17 PM

We've all used an excuse or two in our lives. (Oh, you've used more?) And basically what we're saying when we offer an excuse is we're not responsible. Right? That's really what it boils down to.  That's really what's at the root of an excuse. And since we're not culpable (deserving condemnation or blame), we're not to be held accountable for whatever it was that happened or didn't happen ~ that got done or didn't get done. It was the fault of someone or something else (or a combination of both). To make an excuse is to judge ourselves innocent … (1 comments)

Enough's Enough - 01/07/11 12:03 PM
Have you ever wondered why God only created a 24-hour day? And then beyond that, why didn't He just make it so human beings didn't need to sleep? Just think. We could work all day and then work all night. And then we could just work all day and then work all night again. Wouldn't that be fun? Oh, I know, I know. You wouldn't work yourself to the bone like that. You wouldn't fill every waking moment with business. You would take a break. You would make room for relaxation. You would spend time with your kids (or grand kids). … (4 comments)

The Brett Favre Decision-Making Saga - 01/05/11 03:17 PM
Brett Favre is retiring again. (And again. And again. And again.) And I guess I could have put in parentheses that he's COMING BACK to football after retirement (again and again and again) because he just could be if we wait around long enough. (Why not? He's done it before.)
And some people get into these endless loops in their lives. (Know anyone like that?) Here's what happens. They decide to do something. And then the next day (with some it's the next minute), they decide that they shouldn't have done what they decided to do, so they go back … (1 comments)

Shooting For The Moon (and Hitting It) - 01/03/11 06:28 PM
Whenever we start something (a new job, a new semester at school, a new diet, etc.), whatever it may be, we just can't help but have expectations. We expect things to go well. We expect to be successful. We expect to get "straight A's." We expect to move up the corporate ladder (and not fall or get kicked off). We expect this or that or the other thing ~ usually good. We are encouraged to set the bar high. (Right?) We are encouraged to shoot for the moon. The problem arises, however, when we forget about the discipline it takes to … (1 comments)
