success: On Success and the "Law of Attraction" - 09/21/11 05:52 AM
(Warning: A rant coming ~ albeit mild.) In business and real estate circles the so called "law of attraction" gets talked about a lot. In a nutshell, it's the idea that if we think it, it will happen.
So, if you're not enjoying much success (let's define "success" here as making boatloads of money), the law of attraction says it's because you've been thinking contrary thoughts. (Yeah, it's all your fault you're not Warren Buffett.) And if you just change your thinking, everything will be all better. (This is the time in the presentation where the guru hawks his book … (0 comments)

success: 10 "More" Things That Get in the Way of Success - 03/18/11 05:13 AM
This is just another real quick post off the top of my head to complement one from the past. (Click here to read "10 Things That Get in the Way of Success.") Here are ten "more" things that I think can and oftentimes keep people from being successful.
Ready or not, here we go (see if you agree with me)...
10 "More" Things That Get in the Way of Success:
Taking too many days off. Avoiding the uncomfortable tasks. Not networking. Disparaging others. Thinking you're better than everybody. Not remaining teachable. Not admitting mistakes. Not keeping your word. … (0 comments)

success: The 7 No's of a Successful Realtor® - 02/25/10 06:53 AM
How many people quit real estate after their first year? What's your guess? A quarter? Half? 75%? If your guess was any of those, you're gonna be shocked. It's more. A 10-year study in the 90s put the average failure rate after the first year of people who go into real estate at just shy of 9 out of every 10. A decade into the 2000s, it's gotta be pretty close to the same. Agree/disagree? So why do so many give up on real estate? What would you say if you could boil it down to just one answer? I'd like … (1 comments)

success: Who's Responsible for Your Success? - 09/30/09 07:12 AM
The title of this post is a question I believe is asked often. It's asked mostly subconciously (my opinion). And the way it's answered is incorrectly (my opinion again). Being that this is a real estate blog, we could answer the question from a real estate professional's standpoint or a Broker's standpoint or a real estate info tech's standpoint ~ fill in the blank. (Of course, you can answer the question from your own standpoint no matter what your career field, position or background.) Since I'm a real estate IT guy, I'm going to roleplay an answer from my vantage point. … (0 comments)

success: Ten Things That Get in the Way of Success - 06/05/09 04:14 AM

This is just a real quick post off the top of my head. Here are ten things that I think can and oftentimes keep people from being successful. Ready or not, here we go (see if you agree with me)...

Doing things halfway. Being less than honest. Not being yourself. Thinking others have more to offer. Treating others without respect. Not being nice. Not getting enough sleep. Not eating right. Living on an island. Not forgiving. … (0 comments)

success: A Successful Realtor in One Word - 04/21/09 05:08 AM
So if you could choose one word that sets apart a successful realtor from an unsuccessful one, what would it be? I actually tweeted (asked) this question on twitter to not only get some feedback, but also to see if anyone would even come close to the word I had in mind. Some of the answers that came in from twitter (and from the following tweeps) included: @genemundt: willing; @AmanBakshi: proactve; @Christy_LA: genuine; @PMZRealEstate: education; @ergoheat: charisma; @nwahlen: honesty; @afreshspace: organized; @spelletier: sales; @recr: effort; @toddwaller: focus; @1000wattmarc: sales; @agentPatGillen: perseverance; @ColleenLane: consistent. (And if you haven't followed any of these … (1 comments)

success: Just Another Reminder: Blogging Really Does Work - 07/02/07 10:16 AM
Just wanted to thank the AR crowd that's taught me so much about blogging. Someone in Arkansas did a Yahoo Search recently using the following terms: "sonora calif real estate." (Try it yourself!) Of the 70,100 sites to come up, lo and behold, at #3 was the Sugar Pine Realty blog. (Click on the pictures to see up close.) Now how did that happen? Was it just chance? You all know the answer.  It was because of the keywords that appear in both the title line of the Sugar Pine Realty blog and then further down in some of the links on the … (0 comments)

success: Take the Real Estate Career Poll - 05/17/07 10:04 AM
I work for a real estate company in the Sonora, Twain Harte, Mother Lode area of California. I need your help. I don't know how many hours a good real estate agent should put in each week to be successful. Please take the Real Estate Career poll below so I can find out how much work you're putting into your career. And then consider these questions: How many hours should a real estate agent put in each week? When is too much too much? Where is that point as you see it? Thanks for voting in the poll and I look … (2 comments)
