I had a favorite spot in the Canadian forest where I wrote this poem years ago. I hope you enjoy it.

My chair in the forest is a rock.
My footstool is a log.
Nothing moves but the gentle breeze.

 The eyes of every hunted creature are upon me
But I only sense their presence
As they silently move away.

Today I am not a hunter.
The Ruffed Grouse can fly freely
In the cedar trees and pines

Solitude is all I want.
The deer can run and
Tattletale Blue Jays can be silent.

Yellow rays begin to break
Through heavy mist and
Banish the chill from my heart.

There is no room in my mind
For anything but the smell
Of wood and water.

A tear is hardly noticed
Falling to the ground
Joining the drops of dew.

Beating wings softly land
On the leaves in front of me
And our startled eyes meet.

We make no sound.
We do not move.
Frozen ….like photographs of you.

For many years now, Santa has traditionally rode through Cape Canaveral on a Fire Truck throwing Candy and the blasting the "Chipmunks" all over town. I caught him at the Hitching Post Trailer Ranch which has been here since the sixties when the Space Program started to take off. It is a winter home for snowbirds and has many permanant residents. The Fire Fighters do a great job! Happy Holidays everyone!

Gino's Annual invitational Horseshoe Tournament was held at Jump's Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach Sat. Dec. 17, 2011 and a great time was had by all. I'm putting together a DVD of the event with videos and photos and will also post a link to You Tube. Local community events like this are a great way to connect and network with your neighbors and have fun too! Gino is the guy wearing the Santa hat.

Our Christmas Cactus is about 4 years old now, 3 feet across and produces these beautiful flowers year after year. The garden poinsettia is red as well making for a colorful Florida Yuletide. It's almost time to break out the eggnog and rum! To all of my friends at Active Rain: Have a Holly Jolly Christmas and a wonderful Holiday Season! Caribbean sunrise aboard the Carnival Dream out of Port Canaveral, Florida. I took these photos from our cove balcony room. We missed the sun for much of this cruise but we had a good time anyway. Check out the face in the clouds top center.

This isn't much of a sunrise but it's the best our cruise would offer this time around.

 If you lived here, you could take a taxi to the cruise terminals, take a last minute trip and come back to Florida Sunshine! :-)

Below is my video of our Carnival Dream Cruise shore trip featuring horseback riding, iguanas, monkeys, coatimundis and a tour of Isla Roatan. The weather wasn't great but we made the best of it and got to see the REAL Roatan. It was an experience! The locals say that international buyers are snapping up properties here and developing the island. Is that good or bad? Stay tuned.

The still photos were captured from my Panasonic HDC-TM90 video camera, so they are not as crisp as photos from my Nikon D90 but I think they are acceptable for the web.

This is downtown Coxen Hole in Roatan, Honduras. We were in a van with the windshield wipers going but you can tell this is not downtown Cocoa Beach. Every so often, we would see policia armed with machine guns patrolling the area.

The Roatan Iguana Farm was part of the tour. The inclement weather kept most of them up in the trees.

 Horseshoe buddies Frank, Boston and Steve all celebrated their birthdays Sat. Dec. 3rd at Jump's Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach. We played horseshoes all afternoon and then listened to a great band called "Redneck Joe". Life is good!

 Redneck Joe (formerly Troublesome Creek) opened for Ronnie Hawkins years ago and is still going strong today.

The Dave Kury Band played at Friday Fest in Cape Canaveral. There is always great music at this event and a sense of community that is hard to find these days. It's a wonderful place to meet your neighbors and get to know everyone.

Santa has arrived in Cape Canaveral. Let's all enjoy the season!

Neighbors and friends can be the best source of new listings and sales. Of course, it always helps to have a little fun along the way!

First of all, I would like to wish everyone at Active Rain and my blog readers a very Happy Thanksgiving. May your turkey be stuffed with tasty dressing and your family be blessed with love and happiness. Marla and I have both lost our parents, but we are thankful for the good times and bounty that was shared with them all through the years. The memories, great family dinners and old photos are priceless. They imparted the wisdom and skills we needed to make our way in this world and are dearly missed. All too often these days, children are raised in broken homes or disfunctional families and have never learned to budget or even cook a nutritious dinner. Many will not know the joy of sitting down with friends and family at a table with turkey and all the trimmings.

Let's all be buddies today and help our fellow man, woman, dog or cat as much as we can. Then pay it forward all year long!

A New Meaning for "Affordable Housing"

The City of Toronto is trying to get rid of these "Occupy Toronto" Yurts but a court battle will determine whether or not they can stay in St. James Park. My brother Larry recently took these photos of the yurts being erected and is a supporter of the movement (as am I) and is a member of Zeitgeist as well. We care about our planet and the implications of having a political system that privatizes profits and socializes loss. Our government should serve us all, not just the rich and powerful.

A YURT is an insulated felt hut most often seen in the high mountain pastures of central Asia. They were purchased from Groovy Yurts and donated by several Canadian Unions at a cost of around $20,000 each. You can buy a plush snow white one from Nieman Marcus for $75,000 for the banker who has everything :-)

This one looks like it could keep you toasty warm all winter!

UPDATE from my bother Larry: 11/24/2011

City workers dismantle a yurt after a standoff between police and protesters. This was the library yurt. Negotiations removed all books before the cops moved in. Three people chained themselves inside. Five were arrested at this yurt in total and given a $75 trespass ticket. My brother helped to erect this one.
