Trivia Tuesday - How did "GATORADE" get it's name? - 03/31/09 10:47 AM
Trivia questions: How did "GATORADE" get it's name? What is the southernmost U.S. State?
Florida Trivia:
Venice is known as the Shark Tooth Capital of the World. Collecting prehistoric shark teeth has been a favorite pastime of visitors and residents of the Venice area for years. Back in the seventies, I made them into necklaces and sold them on the beach for gas money. They were a little smaller than the one pictured below :-)

Speechless Sundays - Guess this location - 03/29/09 10:35 AM
Do you know where I took this photo? Take a guess! It was shot with my old Toshiba 3.1 mp camera and I can't believe it turned out this well. I use a Canon Powershot A630 8 mp now.

Cape Canaveral Art Festival - Group: Stories, People and Photos - 03/29/09 09:31 AM
The Third Annual Cape Canaveral Art Festival, Mar, 28-29, 2009. It’s still pretty basic but my wife and I like it and we've been to all three. It a great opportunity to meet both locals and tourists and of course, hand out a few business cards :-). You can't beat Cape Canaveral's location with the ocean on one side, the Banana River Lagoon on the other and it's less than an hour to Orlando and the attractions. NASA chose to launch the Space Shuttle here in part, becuase of the low incidence of storm damage. River and ocean view condos are … (1 comments)

Desiderata - Causing a Positive Mental Shift - 03/27/09 09:41 AM
I'm sure many of you know of or have read this poem before. Back in the sixties and seventies, I used to read it a lot. I was wearing patched Levi's and a jean jacket most of the time, playing music was my life and changing the world seemed like an attainable goal. I think I'll start reading it again :-)DesiderataWritten in 1927 by Max EhrmannHere is the Desiderata also sometimes spelled Desiderada. Reading this famous poem daily will cause a positive mental shift. It says to remember what peace there may be in silence. With this in mind, take 5-30 … (2 comments)

Storms, Flames and Spirits - Group: Stories, People and Photos - 03/24/09 11:50 PM
Storms, Flames and Spirits
Some people just stay with you even when they’re gone. It will be five years in June since a good man, Charlie "Brown" Walker left the building and Florida's Space Coast will never be the same. At the time this was written, I was still a snowbird and spent summers in Canada.

A raging thunder storm woke me up at 3:00 A.M.. The power was out and it was a completely dark September night at my cottage on Lake Katchewanooka, Ontario except for lightning strikes. After groping my way to … (2 comments)

Speechless Sundays - Guess this location on Florida's Space Coast - 03/22/09 02:11 AM
Guess this location on Florida's Space Coast and I'll buy you a Corona.
Hint: There's live music, bikinis and beer. There's also more than a few investment income types, condo owners and local Realtors. Blues rules on the left and beach music on the right with Corona specials on the week end. I love Florida!

Photo Friday - Tree Moving Van / AIG Bonus Plan - 03/20/09 10:33 AM
When my buddy Steve moved from his rented townhome 3 years ago, he was determined to take his tree with him to his new house. The tree didn't go quietly however, and he broke 2 straps trying to haul it out of the ground with the moving van. I couldn't stop laughing and did not see the logic in all this effort but Steve is a stubborn man and the roughed up tree was liberated! It must have known what was to follow because it died a year later along with Steve's dream of home ownership. He lost his construction job, … (2 comments)

Cape Canaveral Clouds & Sunsets - 03/19/09 12:03 AM
I took these photos on Wednesday after my evening bike ride. We haven't had many clouds lately and I liked the effect. Every night the colors change the sky and paint a new picture. It's inspiring and comforting to know that I can walk 2 minutes down the road at the end of each day and witness nature at it's finest. It puts everything into perspective and gets me ready for a new day.

What does this cloud look like?

Speechless Sundays - Naughty Bird - 03/08/09 01:32 AM
Flipping the Bird

This impudent Macaw at the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida poses for tourists in an "unconventional" manner. Maybe he's seen too many visitors for one day or he's upset that the clouds took his sunshine away. FYI - "Flipping the Bird" is slang for what you might do if someone cut you off in rush hour traffic :-)
Here's what he normally looks like.

Up the Down Staircase & Mirror Pier - 03/04/09 08:41 PM
Here I go manipulating photos again! I just can't resist the urge to transform a mere photo into a conversation piece. I've dubbed the first photo "Up the Down Staircase". I took the original on a Cruise to the Bahamas with my wife aboard the Monarch of the Seas. I thought the "LOVE" circle was appropriate for the Love Boat!

I call this photo of the Cocoa Beach Pier "Mirror Pier". Instead of one Tiki Bar, there are now four, which may be the way departing fishermen view it at the end of the day :-)
