JT and I gave it our best shot but ended up in third place throwing horseshoes on Sat. The heat and humidity was a killer!! We'll get 'em next time! We all drank our share of water and less beer :-) The air conditioners are working overtime.

Every year, Floirda has a flock of "snowbirds" that visit for up to 7 months and then go back up north to the warmer weather. They're here to have a good time, enjoy the beach and they pick up the local economy. Below is a collage of my of my crazy Canadian, Dutchman friend Frank's 63'd bithday party at the "Hitching Post Trailer Ranch" in Cape Canaveral. He's the big guy in the blue checkered shirt. It was a warm but windy day on Cape Canaveral Beach and perfect weather for Kite Boarders. It's a popular pastime here in Florida but you have to be fit with good upper body strength. My Grandkids were having fun in the surf when I took these photos.

The Grandkids Arrived from Canada on Monday to Visit Grandpa in Cape Canaveral. Katy was wearing a Grandpa moustache, Thomas brought down his guitar and Hannah can't wait to go to Sea World next week with Auntie Marla. We'll have nothing but fun in the sun and I willl be busy making pancakes and bacon and eggs for breakfast. I even pulled a quarter out Katy's ear :-) Look for more photos and video soon!

New Lights Coming!
Pictured below: Gino giving the proceeds from the player's 50/50 draws to Steve and Angel, owners of Jumps Tiny Tavern in Cocoa Beach. They will be installing new LED lights for the horseshoe pits so we can all see what we're shooting at when the sun goes down. We have a great group of people here. It's like one big extended family! Boston and I came in third out of 11 teams on Saturday. Everyone was throwing ringers!

It went down into the 40's last night and my usually vibrant Christmas Cactus felt the cold as did I. It's only in the 60's at noon today but after all, this is December! I visited some Canadian neighbors last night and wore my insulated jacket for the first time this year. The shots of whatever it was didn't hurt either :-) That was after coming in third at the Sat. horseshoe tournament and playing my blues harp with "Sax Appeal" at Jump's Tiny Tavern for four songs. Life is good (even if it's cold). HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!

brevard county: Ginnie's Thanksgiving Table

My mother-in-law Ginnie has passed away for some time now but she was always big on tradtion. Her husband was a Sr. Master Sergeant at Patrick AFB. She liked just the simple tasty basics with a little pumpkin pie for desert. She was a wonderful person and I'm happy that I had the priviledge of being her friend. Charlie "Brown" Walker who sat in the upper right chair is also gone and everyone misses them dearly. I am thankful that I still have my health, good friends, my sanity and my family. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

An old friend of the family invited me over to her new home in Suntree on Sunday to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving. Judy Dassinger (pictured in the orange top) has been a Florida Realtor since 1991 and currently works at Re/Max Elite in Melbourne. Her Uncle George owned a car lot in Winona, Ontario just southeast of Hamilton and sold my Dad a pink 1950's era station wagon many years ago. He got a deal because of the color and my Mom's favorite color was pink....A WIN-WIN! :-) Dinner was delicious!

brevard county: Cocoa Beach Tiki Mon Legend is now in Tiki Heaven

A Cocoa Beach Legend went to Tiki Heaven on Tuesday, 9/5/2012 of an apparent heart attack. Wayne Coombs opened Mai Tiki Studio and Gallery in 1973 and I couldn't begin to count all the homes and businesses his art is an integral part of. I spoke with him several times at art shows and in his studio where I took the photo below. The first thing you noticed were his big hands, wide smile and booming voice. I don't know of anyone who added as much color and originality to the Space Coast. The big man will be missed!

Cape Canaveral has a very substantial population of Peacocks and Peahens that mostly reside on the ocean side of SR A1A. Every now and then, a brave one crosses the roadway and ends up in my garden to pick up fallen seeds from my bird feeder.
These birds are considered to be a nuisance by some home owners who say they ruin their gardens and do nothing but poop and squawk. Others see them as just a part of the local wildlife along with feral cats which they feed as well. I'm just happy they only show up about once … (33 comments)

I drove a friend to the Brevard County Sheriff's Work Farm this morning where she will spend the day as a result of a DUI. The locals call this place "The Pea Picker Farm". It's free labor for the County and gives the participants time to think about why they're there. They all wear striped overalls just like Paul Newman in "Cool Hand Luke" and hopefully won't get eaten by the pond alligators :-) The gourmet lunch is peanut butter or balogna sandwiches on stale bread. They don't want you to come back!
This certainly beats time in jail!

When it's 90* plus with the humidity making it feel like 100*, you need some shade. It's a good time to feel that ocean breeze, jump in the water and stay cool but don't forget the sunblock! That's my office on the far right :-)
