Thankful Thursday, 9/30/10 - 09/30/10 08:35 PM
Today was just one of those days.  One of those days I was talking about last Thursday, that I hardly ever have but do on occasion.  A day when everything was going wrong, or hitting me wrong, and I just couldn't jolly myself out of my bad mood.  It started off with torrential rains.  The east coast is getting hammered with some much needed rain but we didn't really want it all at once!  Then Max missed the bus.  Waking Max up makes me feel very sorry for my sister who's job it was to get me out of bed in … (14 comments)

239 McIntosh Road sits on a tree-lined street with assigned parking out front and ample extra parking out back.

It is a very nice 3 bedroom townhouse with new granite counters in the kitchen.

Road Trip, recap! - 09/26/10 07:46 PM
I had so much fun this weekend that it may take me a week to catch up!  I drove down to Chesapeake Virginia to visit Doreen, my gal pal from 5th grade.  We've been friends all of these years but understandably, since she lives a 5 to 6 hour car ride away, I don't get to see her much.  We caught up on laughter and shared a great time.  She's married to a lovely man named Rich who treated me like visiting royalty and I had a lovely visit.

On the way to Doreen's, one of my stops was on the … (12 comments)

Road Trip... Visiting Old Friends! - 09/25/10 10:34 AM

Pictured here are some old friends.  Doreen is on the far right and we've been friends since 5th grade.  I entered 5th grade straight out of 3rd grade and was one year younger than everyone in the class.  I was a homely little girl in a pixie haircut with coke bottle glasses and a huge silver brace on the front tooth that came in sideways and Doreen was my first friend in the class.  We've been friends ever since, and I am visiting her right now in Chesapeake, Virginia, on my way to a wedding in the Outer Banks.  To … (9 comments)

Thankful Thursday, 9/23/10, It's the Little Things - 09/23/10 02:42 PM
I love the quote, "Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things...  The quote was credited on the website about Inspirational quotes to someone named Antonio Smith.  The only Antonio Smith I could find was a huge 275 pound football player who I believe is a defensive linebacker for Houston.  Now I'm not saying he didn't say it, but I'm not saying he did either.
Whoever said it, it's so true.  Growing up I learned kind of early that life wasn't necessarily going to be easy and if I was … (13 comments)

Drought watch declared for Chester County following dry summer weather - 09/21/10 04:49 PM
If you would have asked me in the winter or early spring what my thoughts were for a possible drought in the fall, I would have chuckled.

I remember the snow that was almost higher than my dog!  I remember the spring and early summer being very wet and dreary.  The month of August and so far the month of September, however, have been beautiful and sunny and with that comes some bad news.
I got an email from Rep. Barb McIlvaine Smith with the news that the state Department of Environmental Protection has issued a drought watch for Chester County and is … (7 comments)

And a great time was had by many!!! The Chester County Restaurant Festival was a hit! - 09/20/10 10:37 AM
I'm embarrassed to admit that yesterday was the first time I've ever visited West Chester Borough during the Restaurant Festival.  I vaguely remember going years ago, but to be honest, this college town has so many shindigs throughout the year, that I am not entirely sure!  I did make the attempt to attend last year but arrived too late to find parking anywhere in West Chester.  Note to future attendees.... arrive early!!!  In addition to arriving early, the parking lot on Chestnut Street has reopened, so that will help!
Jack and I got there around 12:30 yesterday and the place was … (8 comments)

Soccer Season Rolls Around Again in Chester County! - 09/18/10 03:53 PM
My younger son Max is a man of action and I am happy to say that he is once again playing recreational soccer for Greater Chester Valley Soccer Association.  He's in the 14 and under league.  I took a photo of the gang at the first game last Saturday.  Max is in the back row, the dark haired boy on the left in the center.  They are a nice group of boys and really enjoy watching them play.

Head Coach Matt Doyle is not pictured as he was on active duty in the reserves that day.  Thank you Coach Doyle … (7 comments)

RE/MAX PREFERRED ROCKS!!! - 09/17/10 03:16 PM
I have the priviledge to work at a great RE/MAX office.  Not only is it a wonderful work environment, with everything I need to be successful, everyone is so great to work with.  From my Brokers, Mike and Mike, down through the office staff and fellow agents, it's quite a team of happy and upbeat people.
Once a month our two offices (West Chester and Newtown Square) form a S.W.A.T Team.  S.W.A.T stands for Still Without a Taker.  If the sellers are amenable to it and open to suggestions, we tour listings that have been on the market for 60 … (8 comments)

Open Yourself to the Possibility - 09/15/10 03:14 PM
A friend introduced me to a great book of short motivational stories called Dogs Don't Bite When a Growl Will Do.  I pick it up every now and again and this morning's quote is a good one.
"In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be a semihuman.  The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog".  - Edward Hoagland
I love this.  My pets, both the dog and the cat, have opened me up to new things.  Like the sun spot.  I've written about this before. … (15 comments)

The Glass Rainbow, James Lee Burke - 09/14/10 05:59 PM
One of my birthday gifts from my mom was the latest James Lee Burke novel, The Glass Rainbow.

Mr. Burke's prose is so poetic, that I won't read any of it if there are any distractions.  And  I need to keep my dictionary nearby because every few pages requires me to look up a word.  Sure, I could figure out the meaning, but words are important to me, and all of my life, I've kept track of words I don't know and have looked them up.  My kids often make fun of me because I used to always run … (11 comments)

When I look into your eyes... - 09/13/10 08:40 PM
At the store today, the woman who served me at the counter had the prettiest blue eyes.  What made them all the more remarkable was that she had beautiful light chocolate brown skin.  Her eyes were a surprise to me when she turned to me with a smile and I, never one to pass up an opportunity to compliment someone, told her that her eyes were beautiful.  I love how people light up when you say something nice.  I make a habit of doing it as often each day as I can.
Eye color.  It's so arbitrary.  My boys are both … (25 comments)

For the Love of my Friends - 09/12/10 11:53 AM
I recently read an article in More Magazine (yes, I am now old enough to recieve a magazine for women of a certain age).  The article, written by Sally Koslow is about friendships; how to make them, why some don't last and how it's okay to let some go.  In the article Sally says she read that the average person replaces half her friends every seven years.  She had a hard time believing it until she sat down and thought back on her life.  I did too, but there are some friendships that aren't supposed to last.  Some friends are for … (11 comments)

A Walk in the Park, East Goshen, Chester County - 09/10/10 05:09 PM
Sometimes you just have to take some time to clear your head and commune with nature.  I walk my dog almost every day but I usually stay in our neighborhood.  Today, as a special treat to a special little dog, I went over to East Goshen Park.

JJ is buckled into the passenger seat.  He always sits with his head on the console and just looks up at me while I am driving.  Can someone please tell me how I lived the first 48 years of my life without him?  You can see his mommy is a working mom … (7 comments)

Thankful Thursday, 9/9/10 What are you reading? - 09/09/10 09:56 AM
My mom has been visiting since last Friday, to help celebrate my birthday!  Yes, I know, I celebrate long and hard and I still have a few dinners and lunches with friends this month before I can say my birthday is over.
My mom knows what I love so in addition to some cash to buy more flowers for the garden (or as she says, anything my heart desires), Mom gave me 3 books for my birthday!  I can't wait to read them!!  I'm beyond thrilled that she got me Nelson DeMille's newest book, The Lion.  This is his sequel to … (7 comments)

Mommy, why do they call it Labor Day? - 09/06/10 10:04 AM
No innocent child has asked me that question as the innocent children in this house have all but grown and flown the coop.  My 14 year old only cares that he can sleep till noon on this holiday.  I've always figured I knew that it was a day to celebrate how hard we all work in America, but I figured this morning was a good time to really find out what exactly Labor Day is all about.

Eat, Pray, Love... What??? I wish all movie theaters had closed captioning - 09/05/10 08:57 AM
I am hearing impaired.  It's taken me many years, although I've been hard of hearing all my life, to be able to say that easily out loud.  It's a disability that doesn't get much sympathy and there's always some smart ass that upon hearing that I am hearing impaired starts to move their lips and not make sounds.  So funny and so original.  Not really, but I'm a good sport and I always laugh.  I don't like people to feel ill at ease.   I hear most things although rarely do I hear a bird.  I heard crickets once, when I stepped … (22 comments)

Hersheys Mill Pool Event! East Goshen Township! - 09/04/10 09:11 AM

While delivering meals on wheels in Hersheys Mill on Thursday, I came across this sign at the entrance to the Hersheys Mill Genuardi's.  There is so much to do at Hersheys Mill for active over 55 year olds.
A picture is worth a thousand words, so I will let this event speak for itself!

A good time was had by all at Swingin' Summer Thursday, West Chester - 09/03/10 05:16 PM
Last night the gals from RE/MAX Preferred and I joined a large group of people for the last block party of the summer.  Billed as Swingin' Summer Thursdays, they run the first Thursday of every month from June to September.  Last night's gig featured reggae music and lots of fun.  There were two bands playing music although neither sounded especially Reggae to me, what do I know?  There was a juggler, and lots of booths with information on local businesses, and spare ribs!!  Woo hoo!  I got treated to dinner and drinks by my gal pals to kick off my birthday … (5 comments)
