Hurricane Safety Tips - 08/25/11 08:19 PM
Wouldn't you know the weekend I decided to sneak away to the beach with the girls, Governor Christie declares a State of Emergency for New Jersey?   I got an email from Meals on Wheels of Chester County requesting that I share this information on Hurricane Preparedness Procedures.  Here are some tips on staying safe this weekend:
BEFORE the storm:
MONITOR STREAM AND URBAN STREET FLOODING – For those living in areas that are prone to localized flooding, closely watch small streams and low-lying areas for early flooding. Make sure street storm drains are cleared.
 ·         Secure outside objects.  Hurricane force winds … (9 comments)

Thankful Thursday - 08/18/11 05:45 PM
It's been a good day.  I got hugged while delivering meals on wheels by a sweet little woman who I've come to love.  I was told by another man that I am the highlight of his day.  Another thanked me for the meal and told me that he told his wife that Meals on Wheels should be called Hot Meals delivered by Hot Wheels!  On the whole, I think I get a lot more than I give on Thursdays when I deliver meals.
I had a great lunch that consisted of a big fat hot dog with sauerkraut and a … (14 comments)

Parent Orientation at West Chester East High School - 08/17/11 10:01 PM
I just got home from parent orientation night at West Chester East High School!  Wow!  My head is still spinning with all the information that was imparted to us by Dr. Richard F. Dunlap, Jr., Principal, Dr. Crystal Dowdell, the 9th grade administrator, and the guidance counselor, the PTO Co-Chair and a few others!
A big change for this school year will be the revised bell schedule and transportation plan.  To decrease transportation costs and because Fugett Middle School and West Chester East share a parking lot, the middle school and high school students will now be on the same bus. … (7 comments)

The Rapture? I think not. - 08/13/11 10:31 AM
When I came downstairs this morning, the first floor looked as if the rapture had occurred and everyone was taken except for me!  All the lights were blazing, shoes were in the middle of the floor as if whoever had been wearing them was whisked away mid stride.  There were dirty dishes piled in the sink, the same sink that I cleaned before going to bed, Glasses everywhere and not a child to be found.  Not in bed, not on the sofa...
Hmmmm... Did I lead that much of a sinful life that I was the only person left standing?  Sigh.  Nope.  The … (17 comments)

Thankful Thursday, 8/11/11 - 08/11/11 04:08 PM
I love to watch my younger son play soccer.  He's a pretty good center striker and when he starts running toward the goalie, I swear I can see the poor kid flinch, because there is no way he's stopping the ball.  It doesn't usually happen more than once or twice a game, sometimes not at all, but when it does, man... it's exciting!

For reasons that I really don't understand, as good as Max is, he does not want to play on the school team.  He says he wants to concentrate on his school work.  I can't help but think … (16 comments)

West Chester Area School District Calendar - 08/09/11 10:09 PM
If you're not familiar with the West Chester Area School District, they have a wonderful website.  Important dates can be found on the School Calendar by clicking here.
My sons have both gone through the school district, my older son is now entering his senior year at college and my younger boy is heading in his freshman year at West Chester East High!
I'd like summer to last forever.  There was a time when I felt that I could do cartwheels to the bus stop.  Now, when it's time for the boys to go, along with all of their friends, it's … (7 comments)

Tonight is the last night for The Goshen Country Fair! - 08/06/11 10:43 AM
Last night my husband Jack and I dragged my son Max, treated my son Max to some pizza and donuts at the Goshen Country Fair!  The fair comes to East Goshen the first week of every August and I love it.  Last night was the first opportunity I had to visit and we thought it would be fun if our sons accompanied us.  Mike, our 22 year old already had plans, but we insisted the Max join us.  It turns out it's not much fun insisting adolescents join you anywhere, but we made the best of it.
The pizza is my … (11 comments)

Thankful Thursday, 8/4/11 - 08/04/11 02:40 PM
Out in my garden this morning, I was admiring my morning glories.  I absolutely love these flowers, which is very ironic, since mornings and I are not the best of friends.  Just as into every life a little rain must fall, so into every non-morning person, a few early mornings must be endured to see the beauty of the morning glory.
This got me thinking about how life is filled with these kinds of contradictions.
I love the sunshine but we need rain to make the flowers grow.
I love having my boys home for the summer but really don't … (12 comments)
