thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 4/25/13 Showing Love - 04/25/13 11:39 AM
I am caring for someone in my family and I won't say who it is out of respect for privacy. I can't say how grateful I am that I have risen to the occasion of caring physically and changing dressings and doing things that I never dreamed I was capable of. It turns out that love does trump squeamishness at the sight of blood. Love doesn't mean never having to say you're sorry, like the silly movie from my teenage years. It turns out that love means doing whatever you can for people you love, to make their lives (9 comments)
A client, who was very happy with me, posted this photo to his facebook wall with a nice note. "Thanks Susan! We couldn't have done it without you!!" To say this made my day, would be a gross understatement. Tom and Barb were a joy to work with and I was so happy to sell their current home and see them happily settled into their new one. Thank you Tom and Barb! You made my job so easy by keeping a gorgeous home, staging, painting and generally being a delight.
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 3/21/13 - 03/21/13 10:25 AM
It's a closing day! That's always a reason to be thankful. This closing was with a great couple who've become dear to me and the house is a beauty, so I am very, very happy for them. With the tide turning here in Chester County, many homes were selling as quick as we could get to see them. When Tom and Barb saw this one, they acted quickly and got the property for an excellent price! There was snow here this morning and there was some conversation at the closing table that snow on settlement day is supposed to (2 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 3/14/13 Thank God for Smart People - 03/14/13 02:18 PM
Unbelievably, we are in the middle March already, 1 day before the Ides in fact. Friends, Romans, countrymen... lend me your ears! I have so much to be thankful for but I'd like to focus on the smart people I know. On Facebook and right here on Active Rain, I know people who enrich my brain on a daily basis. Social media experts, SEO experts, good writers, wonderful speakers. I won't start naming them because inevitably, I will forget one or two and that would be unforgivable as they all help me so much. I lend them my ears (7 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 1/31/13 - 01/31/13 07:39 PM
It's down to the wire for Thursday and while I have a few hundred things to be thankful for, I was coming up empty for today's thankful Thursday post. My new desk chair? Is that enough of a reason to write a thankful Thursday post? My momma gave me some money for Christmas so I decided to treat myself to a new chair today. My boys assembled it and I am sitting in it and so yes, I am thankful. I am always thankful for my boys but the fact that they like and love each other is big for (7 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 1/17/2013 - 01/17/13 06:16 PM
I never thought I'd live long enough to be thankful for a Kindle. Honestly, I fought this new contraption tooth and nail. Two Novembers ago we were at a mortgage company function and there was a drawing. The next prize to be drawn was a Kindle and I looked at one of my best friends and said, "Watch, I'll win it because I'm the only person in the world who really doesn't want one." I am a book lover. I love the feel, the heft, the smell of a book. I like to close a book and contemplate what I've just (8 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 1/3/2013 - 01/03/13 05:15 AM
And just like that. It's a whole new year. That was my Facebook status update for New Year's Day. Just like that. We have an opportunity to either keep going on the same path or switch gears and go in another direction. I don't know why the end of the year is one of the only times we think about changes, but it seems that the big things we'd like to change are most often thought about as the year ends. I know I'd like to get more organized. That's my goal for 2013. I'd also, like the entire country this (9 comments)
thankful thursday: What's the Word Wednesday- Whoops! - 09/06/12 05:23 AM
What is Wednesday's word when you wake up Thursday and realize that the very second week after you start a new group and you've already forgotten to post? Whoops! That's what the word is. Every time we have a holiday that falls on a Monday, my weekdays get completely mixed up. Here it is Thankful Thursday and I am just writing a What's the Word Wednesday. We'll use the holiday for this week's excuse. I'll have to think up another one for next week. So Whoops! I hope your Wednesday was fun. As for today being Thursday, I am very Thankful (7 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 8/30/12 - 08/30/12 02:54 PM
I am getting older. To be precise, on Monday, I will no longer be 52. Good grief! Where did the years go? Today, I am thankful to still be here. A friend lost his son-in-law this week very suddenly. He was in his 40's. I am hearing too much of this lately, people gone way before their time, and I think we as a society have to stop being afraid to grow old. We need to appreciate it if we have the opportunity to do so. One of my best friends was telling me how she was so unhappy that her (10 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 8/23/12 - 08/23/12 07:42 AM
I have many friends in all areas of my life and I am so grateful for the support and laughter that these women (and some dear men) supply every day. I am never farther than the reach of my phone or my computer to the comfort and support that friends provide. A funny joke, a frantic email about wardrobe malfunctions, sharing a meal and a bottle of wine, commiserating over life's problems. Friends are the backbone of a woman's life. You've Got to Have Friends One my of dearest friends is sending her only child off to school. They are making (3 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 7/26/12 Goshen Country Fair - 07/26/12 03:05 PM
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens... Maria, in the sound of music had a list of her favorite things. I am in agreement with some of them but others, meh. I have no idea what a schnitzel is. I have no quarrel with the noodle, as an American of Italian descent, I've eaten more than my share of noodles. Wild geese that fly are only something I can appreciate in the spring when they fly in. When I hear them honking overhead while flying south it can only mean one thing. Summer is coming to an end. Spring and (6 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 7/19/12 - 07/19/12 11:53 AM
This is the week after my annual 2 week family vacation. Known to all who know me well, it's the annual FFV (Freaking Family Vacation) and this year was one of the best. I think I may say that every year but each year, as my boys grow up (one completely grown and out of college), the vacation takes on a different life. This year, my first born graduate has a job. He only got to stay one week of the vacation and it was an adjustment. Mostly for me! His lovely girl came down for a few days and his (11 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 6/21/12 Meals on Wheels of Chester County - 06/21/12 07:29 PM
Today I am thankful to my friend Lisa Capparelli who volunteered to help my chapter of Meals on Wheels through the summer. Our regular Friday driver's daughter had some serious surgery and our driver wanted to spend the summer with her to help however she could. I met with Lisa today and she drove around with me on my regular route and fell in love with my folks as I knew she would. Lisa will take over some of the Fridays for our driver and it will be a huge help to all of us. My friend Cheryl D'Ambrosio drives on (3 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, Memorial Day Weekend ahead... - 05/24/12 05:27 AM
In researching what I wanted to write about today, I found this press release, dated 5/26/2000, issued by the President of the United States at the time, William Jefferson Clinton. You can read the full press release here, but an excerpt from the release says it all: Throughout our Nation's history, brave Americans have donned our country's uniform to defend our freedom and uphold our values, often far from home and in the face of grave danger. From the battles of the Revolutionary War through the epic struggles of World Wars I and II to today's peacekeeping missions in a world (12 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 5/10/12 It's an important week here! - 05/10/12 08:10 AM
Oh yes! This week, my very own baby boy is graduating from Kutztown University. Besides the fact that I am proud beyond belief, I am amazed at the swiftness of time. This shy little boy has grown into a fine young man, tall, handsome, gifted in graphic design, funny and still my baby. It truly doesn't seem possible that he is graduating college when he just graduated high school. His little brother Max (all 5' 11" of him) is going to be 16 and itching to drive. I AM NOT READY YET. Isn't it bad enough that one boy is already (11 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 4/26/12 - 04/26/12 05:26 AM
In less than one month, my son Mike, will be a college graduate. How in the world can it be that this little boy... I mean young man, can be graduating? It feels like yesterday that I cried while dropping him off for the first time at Kutztown. It feels like last week when he started high school, last year when he started kindergarten and only a few short years ago, when I dropped him off at pre-school! I remember the teacher saying not to worry, he would be fine as soon as I left, but that they would call me (13 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, thanks Facebook! - 03/15/12 02:30 PM
Anyone who knows me knows that I love dogs. One dog most especially, but I love animals in general. Last week I noticed a video on the Facebook page of the Chester County SPCA. A mom and her 8 pups were at the shelter. The mom, Gigi, had found her forever home and the pups were ready to be adopted. They were adorable, of course, I've never seen a baby anything that didn't tug at my heart. I shared the video on my Facebook wall and pretty soon, I got an email from a friend who told me his lovely (59 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 3/1/12 - 03/01/12 03:40 PM
Woo hoo! March 1! While it's been an unusually warm winter, I am so happy that we are in the homestretch. I can't wait to see the trees flower and see my garden come to life. Always on the lookout for things to be thankful for, I have a small list. First and foremost, a friend and his wife welcomed a new baby girl into the family. What joy! I received two gift certificates in the mail this week from two different people! One, for a full hour's massage, was from a Facebook friend whom I had never spoken (6 comments)
thankful thursday: Thankful Thursday, 2/23/12 - 02/23/12 07:21 AM
It's another beautiful spring day in West Chester. Wait... it's only February 23! It's been spring-like for most of the winter here and I am alternately thankful and waiting for old man winter to drop the other shoe! For now I think I'll just go with thankful! My son Max, a snow lover has alternately been mourning and enjoying the warmer weather. He wants to enjoy the snow and sleep in on snow days but also likes wearing shorts and a t-shirt, which he will wear weather it is 23 or 60 degrees. With the warmer temperatures comes less nagging from (11 comments)
