Did you hear this? The FEMA flood insurance program has lapsed! - 03/29/10 07:41 PM
Did you hear about this?  This is from an article Written by Nikki Buskey in The Courier in Louisiana.  I have heard some folks in an interview on the radio in near panic, wondering what they can do before Congress returns from Spring Break on April 12.  According to Harry Reid and some Republican leaders who have mentioned this, they will take it up immediately on return, and will make the coverage retroactive.  However, some people are still concerned that there may be some escrows that can't close until that law is extended because the homes they are buying are in … (5 comments)

The Miller Park area of Fair Oaks California is a nice place to live. - 03/29/10 05:57 PM
The Miller Park area of Fair Oaks California is a nice place to live.  I know this first hand, since I live in the area!
The area around Miller Park in Fair Oaks is an established somewhat older area, although most of the homes have undergone remodels and upgrades through the years.  This area, like most of Fair Oaks, is a mixture of styles and sizes, although there are few very small homes in this area.
As of the writing of this article, there are 12 homes listed for sale within a one mile radius of Miller Park, with the … (1 comments)

The Phoenix Field area of Fair Oaks California has an interesting history! - 03/27/10 08:57 PM
The Phoenix Field area of Fair Oaks California has an interesting history!
Many people don't realize that the Sacramento area used to have a number of small airports, which have since been closed.  Homes or other developments now stand where planes used to land.
One of these was Phoenix Field in Fair Oaks, California.  The airport opened about 1947, had a 2600 foot long runway and a parallel taxiway.  A number of people lived around the edge of the field, and they could taxi their planes from their yards to the runway.
Phoenix Field airport closed in about … (4 comments)

It's easy to fall in love with Fair Oaks Village in Fair Oaks California! - 03/25/10 11:43 PM
The heart of Fair Oaks California is an area known as Fair Oaks Village.  It has a distinct character that differs a bit from the rest of Fair Oaks, and it's easy to fall in love with Fair Oaks Village in Fair Oaks California.
Long before Fair Oaks was settled by farmers, the Maidu Native Americans had lived here for at least 10,000 years.  Then in the mid-1800s the area was inhabited by miners of Northern California’s Gold Rush.  A few families settled in and around what is now the Village area of Fair Oaks, and that was the beginning of … (3 comments)

GPS, Mapquest or good ol' Thomas Guide? - 03/21/10 07:42 PM
I was reading a post by Richard Weisser today in which he discussed what happened when he relied on his GPS and had a bit of an adventure.  I had to laugh reading his post (sorry Richard).
I normally put all the addresses for the day into my GPS when I am taking buyer clients out to look at homes.  A few weeks ago I left home feeling confident I would easily drive to all of the homes on the list, with my GPS talking me through turn-by-turn, but when I headed over to meet my buyers at the first … (10 comments)

1/2 our days are spent on the road, but few know about an Amber Alert until after its over. - 03/18/10 12:20 AM
This is an important post, and I wanted to be sure to share it with anyone who may have missed it on Nick's blog.
Via Nick Setting (Coldwell Banker Bain):
So here's the deal. When we're with clients we spend most of our time paying attention to them & the road. If our car stereos are on they're at such a low volume we barely hear them. When most of us are at work we're not listening to a radio or watching TV. When we read the news online it's for the Economy or the Market. We spend our time driving through neighborhoods, … (2 comments)

Please celebrate safely this St. Patricks Day - 03/17/10 05:30 PM
Happy St. Patricks Day, Everyone! I appreciate and enjoy my Active Rain and Facebook friends so much, that I hope that all will be careful in their celebrations tonight.  The green beer will be flowing, but someone will have to be the designated driver.  Other than that, check before you go out and I'll bet you will find that local fire departments, taxi companies, and other organizations in many areas will be offering free rides home for anyone who imbibes and realizes that they shouldn't drive.  Find out who will be doing that in your area, just in case.  If you … (6 comments)

Why send me a letter to tell me a letter is coming? - 03/15/10 10:39 PM
The census is a good thing and it is critical that we all participate for our own good.  Our representation in Congress, many government programs and their funding, and other determinations are made based on the results.  I do have a bit of a beef about something though. I'm seldom grumpy about anything. I am, however, very upset that they sent out a letter to every household in America to tell them that they will be sending them another letter with the Census form.  I couldn't believe it when I got that in the mail.  I heard that the extra "warning" … (22 comments)

Spring forward AND protect your family's lives! - 03/12/10 09:56 PM
Don't forget to turn your clocks forward Saturday night March 13 before you go to bed or you'll be late for any meetings or church services on Sunday!  And when you have done that, take another moment to check the batteries in your smoke detectors and any flashlights that you may have.
If you tie the battery check to turning the clock back and forth, you will never go more than 6 months without checking, and your smoke detectors will stay ready.  Also, nothing is more frustrating than to have your power go out and you discover that your flashlight batteries … (6 comments)

Good Experience with Bank of America Short Sales! - 03/10/10 10:16 PM
I got good news today!  my two short sale listings with Bank of America as the first and second lienholders on both may be ready to go to escrow less than 30 days after submitting the offers on both to the Equator system!
The appraisal on the newest listing was scheduled within two weeks of the offer being submitted, and all looks to be about ready to go to escrow as soon as they have done a final review of the hardhsip package.
The other one had been through two previous buyers who dropped out after waiting months with no … (15 comments)

What do you think of this? - 03/05/10 07:28 PM
What do you think of leaving a listing on MLS as 'active' or 'active short sale' when you can't show it and no offers are being accepted?
My buyer client wants a home in a certain area close to where his son lives.  There are a few in that area in his price range, and we found the 6 most likely candidates, and I planned to take him out to see all of them.  Many homes in this area are vacant with a lockbox, so you can just take your buyers there at any time.  Others ask you to make … (11 comments)

90 year old couple on the piano - very cute! - 03/02/10 07:04 PM
This couple has been married for 62 years. They went to the Mayo Clinic for a doctor appointment and spotted a piano in the waiting room. They couldn't resist, and they are pretty funny. The other patients seemed to enjoy them too. They sure know how to make a boring wait a lot more fun!
I got a kick out of them.  I especially like when he pats her behind as they pass.
