Are you sure you meant to say that? - 06/30/11 02:31 PM
Proofreading is a dying art. My brother sent me these, as he knows that I am a bit fussy about my own writing and my husband accuses me of noticing a typo or bad grammar from across the room. That's a bit of an exaggeration, and like everyone, I do make some of my own typos. I think it is harder to catch your own, because you know what you meant to say and that is what you see when you read your own work. When I write a long piece I will sometimes ask my husband to read it, or (13 comments)
Indecision 2011 - 06/26/11 12:20 PM
Patricia Kennedy has said this as well as anyone I've heard. What you hear on the news is NATIONAL statistics, and may have nothing to do with what is happening in your area. Also, many of the real estate market "experts" are not actually working in real estate, or they know only their own local market. If you want current information about your area, ask your Realtor to give you the local statistics. Some areas of the country and some cities are experiencing a rise in prices, others are sitting right where they have been for awhile, and some are still (4 comments)
Boy, does our house smell nice! Our magnolia tree is finally blooming. With the late spring (almost nonexistent this year), it feels like we went straight from winter to summer in the Sacramento area, so many of the things in our Fair Oaks yard that would have bloomed some time ago are just now beginning. Jon went out and picked this one from the tree and presented it to me. It is about 12 inches across. I know it won't last long in a bowl of water, but while it lasts, we will enjoy its beauty and its wonderful fragrance. (7 comments)
The Citrus Heights Red, White & Blue Parade is this Saturday, June 25! - 06/24/11 12:23 AM
Come to the Citrus Heights Red, White & Blue Parade! The 12th annual Citrus Heights CA Red, White and Blue Parade is this Saturday June 25th. It starts at 9:00 am near Madison Avenue and follows Sunrise Blvd to the Sunrise Mall parking lot at Greenback Rd. The parade is sponsored by the city of Citrus Heights and is coordinated by a committee of community volunteers. It is a lot of fun for the whole family and is very patriotic, which is appropriate in these times with the wars and unrest in the world. Come out and see floats, clowns, vintage (0 comments)

Mark Twain back in Sacramento? - 06/23/11 06:37 PM
Some of you may know that Mark Twain started his writing career as a reporter and columnist writing for the Sacramento Union in Sacramento California. I hadn’t known that until I became a real estate columnist for the same newspaper (now one of the defunct papers that were killed off in this economy, unfortunately).
So what better place to launch a brand new U.S. Postage stamp honoring mark Twain than in Old Sacramento Historic State Park (aka Old Sac). The stamp will be dedicated with a ceremony this Saturday, June 25, at 1 p.m. in the historic Passenger Station. (6 comments)

What is happiness to you? - 06/20/11 10:49 PM
So what is happiness to you? There is work that is work and there is play that is play; there is play that is work and work that is play. And in only one of these lies happiness. -- Gelett Burgess
I read this quote and the more I thought about it, the less I was sure what Burgess was getting at - "only one?". The option I would like is the "work that is play", and that is the one that most closely resembles my life as a Realtor. But my happiness also includes being a loving (7 comments)
Fathers Day thoughts - 06/19/11 08:25 PM
This is Fathers Day, and I spent the day with my husband Jon watching Rory McIlroy win the U.S. Open while breaking a slew of records. I took this photo of my Dad, Harry Becher, on Fathers Day 2002, just a few days before his fatal heart attack. This photo has been a special one for me. We were watching the U.S. Open together, and he was smiling about something someone on TV said. I had been flying up to Sacramento from Orange County every three weeks for a year, to spend the weekend visiting with him. Jon came with me (9 comments)
1. One of the most important services your Realtor can provide is giving you advice about how to get the best price for your home in the shortest time. This will involve his or her being knowledgeable about the local market, those features buyers are seeking in their house hunting ventures, and how to market your home to expose it to the greatest number of potential buyers. 2. Your Realtor should be able to tell you about recent sales and trends for properties in your area (6 comments)
Want to see a Courbette and Cabriole in person this Saturday? Tickets are available! - 06/17/11 05:55 PM
So you want to see the Courbette and Cabriole in person? No, I'm not talking about cars, but about something much more unusual and exciting! The World Famous Lipazzaner Stallions will be performing their wonderful program in Power Balance Pavilion this Saturday, June 18th, at 2:00 and 7:30 pm. Good tickets are still available and this is a great show for the entire family. Not only do the horse demonstrate how they were used hundreds of years ago in battle and tell you a bit about their history, but they dance and will demonstrate the amazing Courbette and Cabriole, which they (3 comments)
Wordless Wednesday (with words): How much is that Dolly in the window? - 06/15/11 02:38 AM
Our sweet Dolly is no longer with us. We miss her a lot. She was my Mom's cat, and when Mom died, Dad got closer to her and she became his best friend, though he had never been much of a cat person before. My sister helped him learn cat ways. Then my sister died, and Dolly became even more important to Dad. When Dad died, she became our kitty and every time I would pet her I felt closer to my family who were all gone. Before we could get moved to Northern California, my Uncle Freddie came (11 comments)

Today I received an email from a first time buyer prospect who asked me if I would send her links to any articles on line that would educate her a bit on buying a home. She prefers reading advice rather than hearing it, so she can read it slowly to make sure she understands and refer back to it when she has questions.
She said there were lots of things on line, but she didn’t know which ones were accurate and which ones I would (41 comments)
In what their attorney calls "sweet justice", a Florida couple turned the tables on Bank of America. The bank initiated foreclosure proceedings on them, even though they had paid cash for the home and had no loan! The court ruled that the bank had no right to file foreclosure and ordered it to pay the legal fees and costs of the homeowners. After 5 months of collection efforts and unreturned calls, there was no attempt by Bank of America to pay the judgment, so the attorney for the homeowners got an order to seize the bank's assets. They showed (23 comments)
Goodbye sweet Unk the Hunk! - 06/01/11 03:38 PM
Many of you have read my posts here and on facebook about my dear 92 year old Uncle Freddie and his years long battle with cancer. He fought back over and over when some might have given up on him. He attributed his longevity to all of the prayers and love from friends and family, and I'm sure that is true, but we also referred to him as the Energizer Bunny. He liked to call himself Unk the Hunk (he was only about 5' 3" and skinny). He was a writer (author of the thriller "Run for the Money") and (7 comments)
