Sunday for me is like any other day ... I do what I love, which is work. Outside it is in the 40's, dark, dreary and drizzling; a perfect day to stay indoors and be creative.

Downtown Waynesville, however, is holding an Open House to show off all of the quaint little shops all dressed up for the Holidays, and I don't want to miss that.

Here's a little bit of Sparkle for Sunday, captured in Maggie Valley early Saturday evening.

This beautiful black horse with a blaze is always alone in his Maggie Valley pasture within view of Soco Road and Market Square, fenced in with barbed wire which scares me to death since horses can get hurt in a padded stall filled with feet of soft, fresh shavings. He's none the worse for the wear, however, and obviously loves people and visitors.

Susan Miller gave me a wonderful gift early this week.... an Apple Cake ~ but not just any Apple Cake…. it was a ‘Mrs. Miller’s Apple Cake‘ ~ “The ORIGINAL Apple Cake baked and sold in Maggie Valley, NC for over 16 years.”

Susan Miller is one of Mrs. Miller’s daughters and is a certified chef and American Culinary Federation Member (since 2000), complete with a ServSafe Certification.

Mrs. Miller’s Apple Cake should be in the Harry & David catalog, not to mention Neiman-Marcus. It is THAT GOOD. Really. Moist, full of apples, topped with whole fresh pecans, and embellished with the perfect combination of natural spices.

Maggie Valley's Sunrise Was Something to See This Morning.

The sunrise this morning in Maggie Valley was amazing (again). Temperature was a brisk 40 degrees.

Just an hour or so later I was standing on my deck and noticed smoke that wasn't from a fireplace. It came from across the creek from me (not close), so I hopped in my SUV, wrapped in my leopard Snuggie, to see where the sirens were leading.

There are more fire photos here. Hopefully no one was injured.

There are beautiful creeks, streams and rivers winding through Maggie Valley, and you will find creekside RV parks, homes and lots.

Each and every creek and river in Haywood County originates right here in Haywood County? No water flows into Haywood County. Here's a creek video from my recent outings.

Waynesville was beautiful late Thursday afternoon just as the sun was setting. The video shots were taken in the parking lot of Ingles grocery store off of Dellwood in Waynesville. I was lucky to walk out just in time, and to have my camera (of course) in my vehicle.

Did you happen to see the folding house in the Boston Globe?

What a jerk: Elk killed (poached) in Cataloochee Valley in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Beautiful early morning sunlight was crawling across the pretty Maggie Valley farm early Sunday morning. It's easy to see that our leaves have fallen. This farm can be seen off of Soco Road as you head over the mountain to get to Cherokee, which is a beautiful and winding drive.

I Am So Miserable Without You at this Maggie Valley Creek that It Is Almost Like You Are Still Here!

Early Sunday morning as I went to do an errand, I took a quick detour in Maggie Valley to see how the some of creeks looked. They sure looked cold and rapid. Soon I will be able to capture snow on the banks of the creeks. (I noticed quite a few perfect spots along the creek for an Airstream.)

Haywood County, NC - Residential Real Estate Sales by Month [REVISED] - As of 10/31/09.

This morning (11/09/09) there are 1,272 active listings in Haywood County, with 8 closings to date in November, one of which was a short sale. We still have way too much inventory.

The Haywood County Market Report for October has been revised to include closings that were added after I reported October sales on November 1st. Of note: the Median Selling Price in October is one of the lowest of 2009.

Late Wednesday afternoon in Maggie Valley (11/4/09) I spotted another great photo opportunity on a spectacular Maggie Valley creek. The trees are somewhat bare and brown, but the creek is so beautiful that I don't think that matters.

Speaking of photography, @BradCoy introduced me to Blurb the other day, and I cannot wait to give it a try with some of my photographs. Could be just what I need to make some very special gifts.

Guess I won't get into the extension of the New Homebuyer Tax Credit here (I was not supportive of a 'for' vote), but I found this chart to be easy to read and comprehend for anyone now that it's a moot point.

Agent Genius posted a great blog by Danilo Bogdanovic titled "Why the Extended Homebuyer Tax Credit is a Slap in the Face" which is a great read.

This Real Estate Roller Coaster Ride is Not My First Rodeo, Mike Jones!

Mike Jones (Miracle Mike) asked for a vintage (circa 1980...) photo yesterday, but I was in CE class all day so just this morning had a minute to dig up an oldie.

This photo was taken in West Palm Beach, FL on the Quarter Horse show circuit I followed every year while I lived on 440 acres in Sarasota with Mr. Blackmon with plenty of 'disposable' income. What a great time I had showing horses all over the country, and raising some great foals as well. My favorite classes on the show circuit were Halter, Western Pleasure, English Hunt Seat, Reining, and a few others thrown in every now and then.

I had so much disposable income at that time (thanks to Mr. Blackmon's very successful construction company) that I flew to Arizona twice a year to be measured for my hand-made show clothes. Nothing like doing things with gusto/ridiculous consumerism! I was, and still am, most passionate about horses and the Western lifestyle, and would love to immerse myself in it even more! Horses, Cowboys, an Airstream, and a checking account in the black are the focus of my vision board!

Here's my beautiful Horsealicious website, a work in progress (built by Dakno). I have big plans for the site, over time.

The filly in this photo was by Man-in-Command, a World Champion stallion owned by Tommy Manion. Her dam was a big, stout Quarter horse mare I owned at the time.

The horses, along with Mr. Blackmon, are no longer in my stable!

These photos were taken late Friday afternoon (10/30) in Maggie Valley close to Ghost Town. It was drizzling rain when I was taking the photos, and as you can see, our fall leaves were evident on the ground instead of in the trees.

Fall Color in Maggie Valley ... Gone With the Wind.

The amount of rain we had recently, I am told, hastened the demise of our beautiful fall leaves. We also had a little early snow at the higher elevations, with a return to warmer, milder temperatures during the past 2 weeks.

The locals tell me that the woolly worms are predicting a very cold winter this year. The 2009 Woolly Worm Festival in Banner Elk came and went and I wasn't able to get there, but I hope to next year.

Maggie Valley Leaf Viewing Even More Beautiful on a Creek.

The leaf colors are changing rapidly this week, and the leaves on the trees on this creek in Maggie Valley were spectacular a couple of days ago. The weather has been warm this week, and we have had more rain, so many leaves are falling off the trees (and I'm having to rake my yard again). Perish the thought.

On the 'want’ list of the majority of home buyers when they come to Haywood County is: home on a creek. NOTE: no water flows into Haywood County. Each and every creek, stream and river in the County actually originates in Haywood County.

In response to several inquiries about luxury homes here in the WNC mountains, the numbers below compare the previous 5 years of ‘luxury’ sales to 2009 ‘luxury’ sales in Haywood County, including Maggie Valley, Waynesville, Canton, Clyde and Lake Junaluska.

The number of active listings in Haywood County in the ‘luxury’ price market ($800,000 to $5,000,000) on the date of this report, 10/24/09, was – 74 – and they were priced between $829,000 and $4,300,000. The average days on market for these listings at that time was 277. As you can see, there have been only 4 'luxury home' sales to date this year.
