restaurants in tucson: Dominick's Real Italian - 07/05/15 12:42 AM
Dominick's Real Italian
Tucson and Marana are home to some really awesome Italian Restaurants.  We've got something for everyone, whether it's a pizza joint where you take and bake, or an event restaurant where you might go for your special occasion.
I'd like to bring up Dominick's Real Italian - a casual, eat-in or take out cafe-style eatery. You can check out more about them on their Facebook page as well.
They are located in NW Tucson, at the intersection of Thornydale and Cortaro next to Basha's.  8330 N Thornydale Rd #170, Tucson, AZ
I've written about them before...but in that particular posting I was exclaiming over … (1 comments)

restaurants in tucson: Relish the Food at Relish Kitchen and Wine Bar, Tucson, AZ - 08/28/13 09:11 AM

With my mobile career choice, I'm always on the lookout for new places to eat or meet with clients, and am doubly pleased when such place is locally owned and managed.
Relish Kitchen and Wine Bar has got a great location on the southwest corner of Swan Road and East Camp Lowell Drive.  It's got a great outdoor patio as well, although I'm not checking it out in our current hot weather conditions!

The menu is varied, and lunch is a "get-it-yourself" kind of fare, while dinner has waitstaff.  Signature salads, yummy hand-made sandwiches and other delights dot their menu, all of which … (4 comments)

restaurants in tucson: Wildflower Restaurant in Tucson, AZ - 08/05/13 03:08 AM
My husband and I like to watch cooking shows, and when we dine, we fancy ourselves a bit of a foodie.  At least, we like fresh food served hot, with great service.
Unfortunately, this seems to be the exception more than the rule in our adventures in eating out.
Thus, Wildflower is one of our favorite restaurants in Tucson, AZ.

Wildflower has a wonderful outside dining area - packed in warmer weather, as well as an ecletic interior that matches a diverse menu within.  There are lots of servers, and no matter how busy it is, orders seem to be … (3 comments)

Mays Counter Chicken and Waffles: Restaurants in Tucson

Mays Counter Chicken and Waffles had been on my mind for months.  My rare visits "south" never availed me of the staple "soul food" item, and I was dying to know what I was missing.  What was the allure of chicken and waffles?
I'm a home-made style of cook, and yes, I make waffles from scratch about every 4 or 5 months.  (Well, they ARE fattening!) I rarely deep fry or "Sunday" fry a chicken breast, nor am a fan of Kentucky Fried Chicken, but I do appreciate a little what the … (9 comments)

Mario's Pizza: Things to Do in Tucson
When a pizza place sticks around for over 30 years, it's worth noticing.  Not a Pizza Hut, nor a Domino's, or even a national restaurant serving grilled items and pizza:  A nice, locally owned, slice of heaven - that's Mario's Pizza.
It's tucked into a southwest corner near First and Ft. Lowell and if you don't look quick, you might miss it.

It's one of those places I've driven by for ten years and suddenly one day I said...let's stop!...even if only for a snack.
I'm glad we did.  They sell Pizza … (4 comments)

Excellent Service + Excellent Product:  Brio Restaurant in Tucson
Last Thursday my friend and I met for dinner at the newly opened Brio Restaurant in Tucson, AZ. It's by the Tucson Mall between Oracle and Stone, along Wetmore.  My friend had a menu dropped off at her place of employment and after one glance, they had me at "Lobster Bisque".   I was greeted at the door by two lovely young women who shared an appetizer menu with me and mentioned that Thursdays featured $5 martinis in all sorts of colors and flavors.  I cuddled up to the bar and … (10 comments)

What's for Lunch? Go Ask Alice!  Alice's Restaurant in Tucson, AZ

Step inside the doors and become immediately overwhelmed with the Coca-Cola/Pepsi wars taking place.  Talk about memorabilia! (And yes, that sign DOES say Steak and Eggs, $5.99)

I've been wanting to stop at this little cafe for lunch ever since I spotted it a year ago.  There are always cars parked outside and the cheery checkerboard tablecloths beckon visitors to a bygone era!  It reminds me of my Aunt Doris's place back in Green Bay, WI years ago - Doris' Lunchroom - aptly named.

The menu is … (7 comments)

Visiting La Encantada in the Tucson Foothills
Dining at La Encantada is always a treat, and I spend a leisurely Memorial Day 2011 afternoon dining and browsing with my mother.

La Encantada is a shopping and dining center set against the stunning backdrop of the Santa Catalina Mountains, nestled in the foothills of Tucson, AZ.  City views, courtyards overflowing with greenery, and Spanish-style architecture makes it truly something special - not to mention the specialty and fashion collection of stores that make browsing, shopping, and buying so much fun.
There are so many eateries to choose from!

Pull Up to the Table - It's RESTAURANT Week in Tucson, AZ!
I think this is going to be my most favorite week yet in the ten years I've lived in Tucson and Marana, AZ.  Now that I've "connected" with my social media - the emails are coming in, the coupons, the tweets - by gosh I'm hungry and can't believe I've missed this before!
Restaurant weeks runs September 18 - 26, 2010.  It's a way for restaurants to "wine and dine" new customers and help create an entirely new venue of clients.  For us -- it's a way to dabble … (5 comments)

Our Favorite Italian Place - Bianchi's - Tucson, AZ
For down-home comfort food, we love Bianchi's Italian Restaurant, 1110 N. Silverbell, corner of Speedway and Silverbell.  We happened across it about lunchtime one day, and we've been back at least a dozen times.  My personal favorite is the maranara with meat sauce.  Mmmm mmmm mmm.

I take my friends there, my clients, my family - we've never had a bad meal!
Now, this isn't a dress up kind of place.  You order at the counter, sit at booths or tables, and munch on pizza, pasta, and subs.

There's a … (4 comments)

It's "Off the List"!  Disasters in Dining

We've all had them, and I'm sure you've got stories to share.  You planned a special meal out, only to receive sub-par service, raw or cold food, sparring waiters, or cooking snafus.  We've all had our share of disappointing dinners and diners.

We've had enough disasters on Valentine's Day to keep THAT holiday a home-cooked meal EVERY year now.
However, a love of new food ideas, the ease of being waited on, or just being away from home and needing to eat keeps us coming back … (6 comments)

The Cheesecake Factory - Things to do in Tucson, AZ

This weekend my husband took me out to celebrate a recent closing, and we chose The Cheesecake Factory, which opened this past year in Tucson, AZ.

We love the interior.  We've gone once before at the Tucson location for lunch, and visited two different branches in the Phoenix area in the past.  We've never had a bad meal or poor experience, and trust me, when it comes to restaurant fiascoes, we've had our share!

We walk into a packed lobby - at least 25-30 people milling around.  … (3 comments)

Finger Licking Good!  Bar-b-cue in Tucson, AZ
Update:  Summer 2011  Dickey's Has Closed!  Please come back, Dickey's!!!
I like my own home-made barbecue sauce.  I admit it, I'm prejudiced.  My momma taught me the variations growing up and there's nothing like BEER in the sauce to give it the right balance.  But, that's just my opinion!
I've eaten barbecue out some...not much.  I usually like more sauce than they provide, and maybe some is too sweet, some too hot, some too tangy, some with too much molasses. My in-laws love Tony Roma's Carolina Honey Barbecue sauce and I found the recipe … (3 comments)

Exploring the Gardens at Hacienda del Sol - Things to do in Tucson, AZ
Over the weekend, I had the fun of partaking in an event at Hacienda del Sol, in the foothills of North Tucson.  I'm on their email list, and the invitation to join in came a few weeks back.
Hacienda del Sol is a one-of-a-kind Guest Ranch Resort with an award-winning restaurant named The Grill, where many of the herbs used in their delicious recipes are grown on the property.  The resort sits on acres of natural desert landscape with botanical gardens, lush floral and desert vistas, and … (2 comments)
