myanmar burma: Walking the bridge for exercise! - 02/01/09 01:35 AM

 Walking the bridge for exercise!
It's Sunday and I will be going out hiking around the mountains at Red Rock Canyon today. I received a email from a Activerain member and their daughter is visiting Las Vegas for a school credit.
I will be spending the day showing her daughter and her friend around all of Las Vegas and Red Rock Canyon. Then I think I will show them some very exciting casinos filed with sites and excitement.
Who is this person from "The Rain?" You will have to stay posted to find out!
In the mean time, let's try … (16 comments)

myanmar burma: If you were going to show these men homes, where would you start? - 01/08/09 05:19 PM

If you were going to show these men homes, where would you start?
Let's just say that all these men are interested in looking at properties, where would you begin? Which one would you show first? Would you draw straws or go after the man with the most money.
And where are the women? Did they leave them at home or are they in the boat behind this one.
I really like this photograph and no it wasn't taken in America.
I wanted to post this photo with my blog because they may come a time when you will get … (11 comments)

myanmar burma: What is this man thinking? - 01/07/09 10:04 AM

 What is this man thinking?
If you look real close you can see a figure of a man crossing the bridge. What could be going through this mans mind?
I wonder if the market in 2009 will be better then it was in 2008?
 Why am I walking alone?
Sure is a lovely day for a walk!
This sure is a long walk!
 I'm getting hungry!
I wonder if there are any fish in this lake?
I wonder if my wife misses me?
Tell me in your comment what you think is going through this mans mind as he's walking.
 This … (12 comments)

Beautiful Sunrise on a humid day!
I am not in the mood for posting to localism or about Real Estate, so I thought I would leave you with this wonderful photograph of the sun rising in Myanmar (Burma) Southeast Asia.
This photo was taken in Yagon the capital of the country. April is there peak summer and temps run over 100 degrees with very, very high humidity.
In the photo it looks like fog, but this is humidity and you could cut it with a knife it is so thick.

myanmar burma: Does anyone recognize any of these people? - 01/05/09 01:33 PM

Does anyone recognize any of these people?
Anyone that knows my blogs by now may recognize several persons in this photograph. There are two for sure that you have seen around, and the other two may be more difficult. There are a total of 4 persons that I would like for you to point out.
The other children are a bunch of other little tourist guides when I was on vacation in Myanmar (Burma). They all wanted to tell me stories of their town, but there were only a couple that spoke English. All the rest spoke Burmese.
 These children … (9 comments)

myanmar burma: Natural or Flash - Which one do you like better? - 12/22/08 08:53 AM
Here are two identical photographs, one with natural light coming through a window and one taken with flash.
Which one do you think makes a better Photograph, Natural or Flash?
The many years I have put into photography, I prefer the Natural light coming through the window. There is more contras to the photo. But I know many will like the photo with the flash because it brings out the faces of the people in the photo.
This photograph was taken in Bagan Myanmar (Burma) May of 2008. The Buddha figure behind Nu Nu and Cherry is what is called the … (15 comments)

myanmar burma: Mother taking her sons out for a little boat ride! - 12/20/08 10:41 AM

Some times it's the little things in life we take for granted, like a boat ride with your mother.
These little boys are about to go for a little stroll around the lake with their mother. And by the look on the boys and mothers face, their already having a good time.
If you look real close at the boys face you can see some large white looking marks. This is a chalk substance that comes from a tree that Burmese rub on their faces to prevent sunburn.
And the boat you see in the photograph is hand carved out … (7 comments)

myanmar burma: This looks a little unsafe to me! - 12/20/08 07:16 AM

This looks a little unsafe to me!
I made sure when I was walking on this street, to not get to close to the huge electrical wire you see in the middle of the road.
This wire is propped up with bamboo sticks and you can see these men walking very close to it.
I guess certain things scare people more than others and this wire hanging above these men doesn't seem to bother them at all.
For me, You can see how far I was away from it, if this wire was to fall or get hit by a … (11 comments)

myanmar burma: 2000 year old paintings - 12/14/08 05:04 AM

These paintings you see above are from Bagan and date back to when the temple was built around 2000 years ago.
When the temples were built, they had to be built in such a way as to preserve the paintings. No direct sunlight, the window openings had large mesh made from brick built over them so moisture would not ruin the paintings. Also the brick mesh would keep people from getting in to destroy the paintings.
The Burmese government does not like tourists taking photographs of these paintings because they are afraid someone will take the patterns and have prints made for clothing, etc., so … (5 comments)

I have been taking photographs for almost three weeks solid every day and posting to Localism covering Las Vegas, Nevada.

So Friday I will not be going out to shoot photographs so I wanted to share with you one of my favorite photos from Bagan, Myanmar (Burma) South East Asia.

On my last visit to South East Asia I took over 1000 photographs. I am sure viewers are wondering will Robert ever run out of photographs to show us, not for a while.
And we are planning a new trip to South East Asia this Spring and I am just going to go crazy because I have several new cameras.
Here are three very different and very nice pics of once again Bagan, Myanmar. Some of these temples are over 2000 years old and to walk among them is unbelievable.

This photo above is on my wife Nu Nu, her … (10 comments)

myanmar burma: Unbeleivable structures of Temples photographed in Asia for my friends at Active Rain - 11/10/08 07:21 PM

Unbeleivable structures of Temples photographed in Asia for my friends at Active Rain.
This is one of my favorite areas of Bagan Myanmar as you can see by this photograph, these buildings date back around 2000 years and were built by kings back before Jesus Christ was born.
With over 7000 temples built in Bagan alone, it is a very historical place to visit.
If you ever plan a trip to South East Asian, try to visit Bagan Myanmar and it will be a trip of a life time.
Below, I have left you with a special sunrise photograph that is one … (15 comments)

myanmar burma: Very, very old temples in South East Asia - 11/07/08 06:19 PM

These temples in South East Asia - Myanmar date back around 2000 years.
These temples are in Bagan which at one time was a very powerful city, full of Kings that built around 7000 temples like the ones in this photograph.
Many of them became damaged by earthquakes and weather, but the people of Myanmar have been fixing the damaged ones. As you can see in this photograph, the one with the painted gold top has be rebuilt.
When I was on my vacation in Bagan, you could climb many of these temples to the top. When you looked across … (4 comments)

myanmar burma: Some times Life can be Shorter and Lonely for some people - by Robert Swetz - 11/03/08 03:45 PM

Some times Life can be Shorter and Lonely for some people - by Robert Swetz
I lost one of my old friends that I grew up with to Cancer last week.
While I was talking to another friend, he was pretty upset about it. I am one of those people that takes death quite different than others and I am the one that has to explain to loved ones so they understand better.
Life is very short compared to eternity and some live longer than others. We never know when our time is up so we must take time to … (12 comments)

myanmar burma: Breath-taking Sunrise in Bagan - by: Robert Swetz - 11/03/08 03:06 AM

Breath-taking Sunrise in Bagan - by: Robert Swetz
This potograph needs very few words about the beauty, lines, contras, light and story.
One of my favorite places to vacation is Bagan Myanmar (Burma) in South East Asia. We spent one week in May of 2008 and every time I look at or post a blog with the photos, I dream of going back.
At one time in Bagan, there were approx. 7000 temples built by Kings that date back around 2000 years. Bagan is not a very big city, but at that the time it was growing and every King … (13 comments)
