Renting in Fairfax County VA? It Can be Tougher Than Buying - 01/30/12 10:25 AM
Sometimes it is harder to rent a home in Northern Virginia than it is to buy one. Why? First there is a very small supply of move-in ready townhouses and single family homes for rent. (Apartments and condos are more readily available) Second, when you buy a home the seller only sees a loan approval letter from your mortgage company or bank. They do not see your credit score or how much money you make, nor do they see any referrals or lack thereof from previous real estate transactions you have been involved in. Sometimes shooting parts of a scene results in more interesting photos than the whole enchilada.
Instead of putting the obvious main subject ( the ship) in the middle of the shot, try different angles and camera heights in an attempt to capture the spirit or sense of the time and place.... ...or just something different than, a "here is a ship at Jamestown VA and I was there", kind of shot.
When shooting fences or anything in a line, try shooting close up and down the line instead of across it. Experiment all (10 comments)

Steve: Well Matthew, the first place that comes to mind is Jimmy's Old Town Tavern at the corner of Spring and Elden Streets in Herndon VA. Check out the pictures below young man and see if it has the kind of "vibe" you are looking for.
Homes for Sale in Greenbriar, Fairfax VA 22033. Chantilly High School District
Sally: I will probably be selling my house in Fairfax's Greenbriar neighborhood in the months ahead. It is such a pleasant and convenient community that I hate to leave it, but it looks like I will be relocating soon. I was wondering if you could post a monthly report that will show homes that have sold here the last 3 months or so? I want to see what is happening with sales trend in the neighborhood. If you are interested in foreclosures... (property that has already been foreclosed on and now offered to the public through real estate agents) ....for Sale in Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties, we will be posting them here regularly. When folks talk about buying forclosures, bank owned homes (REO's) are generally what they are talking about.
The number of foreclosure properties available each month has been relatively stable throughout 2011 and into the new year. If there is a huge glut coming....we have yet to see any preceding (5 comments)
I couldn't help it. Until today it has been unattractive weather lately. I needed a psyche adjustment. So I dusted off photos of one of my favorite places to have camera adventures, Waterford VA. Waterford VA is unique. Not only in Virginia but in the US. Only 4 blocks long and 1 block wide surrounded by rolling meadows, vineyards and treed hills, this village founded in 1733 is a National Historic Landmark District, one of only three in the country. Waterford is just flat out beautiful. Let's take a look eh?

Ever see some of those cool, dramatic listing photos of the subject property at night? Want to be able to do that? Me too. Even if you have a point and shoot camera you can still get excellent night time photos by adding 2 items to your arsenal, a tripod and a camera remote.

Yes. There is a wee bit of snow on the ground and it is cold. It might be cold tomorrow, but most of the vineyards in Loudoun are scheduled to be open this weekend....but CALL ahead to check. Kandy: Do I have to like wine to enjoy a visit to a Loudoun County Vineyard? Steve: No No Kandy you do not. Sam: I have been looking for 1 and 2 bedroom condos within walking distance of Reston Town Center. I have looked at several properties inside Reston Town Center's boundaries and they were a bit more than I am prepared to pay. I am looking for the best of both worlds of course.... convenience and affordability. Parc Reston across Reston Parkway from town center caught my eye, could you post homes for sale in Parc Reston as well as what schools serve the community?

Welcome to the January 2012 Dunn Loring Village Real Estate Report. Stop in monthly for up to date figures on home sales in Dunn Loring Village... an affordable and convenient town house neighborhood 20 minutes walk from the Dunn Loring Metro Station.
There are NO homes currently on the market or under contract as of today January 17, 2012. This is rare. I find this to be an indication of how tight the Northern Virginia market is. Inventory of homes is very low and correctly priced homes (5 comments)
Real estate might be bad shape in other areas of the country but not in Northern Virginia. Even though the buyer's market ended in the first part of 2009, we are often contacted by folks who want to know where the bargains are...where they can buy a house for 75% of market value. Frankly, that is almost impossible to do any more. Even at the courthouse where the foreclosure auctions are held, property routinely goes for 90% of fixed up market value. That gives very little dollar room for flipping or fixing unpleasant title surprises. (0 comments)

John: I have always appreciated the care and creative thought that went into the design and layout of the neighborhoods in Reston Virginia. I have been through the Deepwood neighborhood off Reston's Glade Drive many times and enjoyed the large trees and landscaping that makes that place so welcoming.

Home again after Jan and I took a couple days off to visit Colonial Williamsburg VA again. Did it last year and had a blast, especially at First Night on New Years Eve. Same result this year. Creative, beautifully presented food at Barret's and 5 bands...blues, Celtic, pop, klezmer and bluegrass followed by fireworks when the pineapple dropped at the College of William and Mary's football field. Took my mother in law and our 24 year old daughter. Kid is much more useful now than when she was 5. You can send her on pizza runs.

We did the Colonial Williamsburg thing again this year. If you have never been, the next couple of posts will give you an idea of what it is like. No beach, no roller coasters, no skiing. You eat, listen to music and look at old stuff. BUT, the food is great the music was awesome and seeing what America was like before air conditioning is interesting. Duke of Gloucester Street is the main thoroughfare in Virginia's Colonial Williamsburg. Here is a 51 second visual impression of what you can expect to see when you visit...at least halfway down the street. (6 comments)
