Mortgage rates rose this week, partially due to the volatility of bonds.  Also Fannie and Freddie are applying new fees to help their bottom lines as house prices decline, and this is reflected in the higher rates.  Jobless claims are also higher than expected.

The average mortgage interest rates rose slightly this week, but pretty steady overall in the past 4 weeks in the range of 6.74%-6.78% with about a quarter point.  Bleak news about the housing market plus the overall economy being relatively steady has kept rates about the same.

I hope everyone had a safe Independence Day!
No major news this past week that would affect interest rates, in fact rates are about the same as last week.  Year by year inflation comparisons dipped slightly under 2% for the first time in 3 years pushing Treasury yields a little lower.  … (2 comments)
