reporting: Have I lost my mind? Or is the media once again misstating facts about the Las Vegas real estate market? - 08/01/08 09:26 PM
Recently, I have seen several (over ten) articles come out saying that the Las Vegas real estate market had the biggest one-month drop in the nation. The reports said the drop was 29 percent in the month of May 2008.
First of all, even with all the short sales and foreclosures,

reporting: Breaking Down the Wall - What Los Angeles knows that Las Vegas doesn't. - 07/26/08 01:49 PM
In another example of how the media refuses to share much of anything positive about the Las Vegas real estate market, a luxury condominium sale in Los Angeles is receiving MAJOR exposure for setting a local price-per-foot record, while a similar penthouse sale in Las Vegas (on a price-per-square-foot basis), continues to be ignored.

A local news station has reported that there have been layoffs at Trump Towers in Las Vegas because of slow luxury condominium closings. According to the report, there have been 73 layoffs - nearly 20 percent of the workforce.
While the overall Las Vegas real estate market is going through major changes and

FEAR - Today, it grips our nation.
In regards to the Las Vegas real estate market, there are several issues we must address. Some of them, we have less power to control - inflation, interest rates, tight mortgage lending, etc.
How long will I keep bringing this up? Until my city gets

reporting: Clearing the air about several Las Vegas residential high-rise condo records. - 07/15/08 02:42 PM
Recently, it seems there has been some confusion by various websites and/or persons in regards to several Las Vegas price-per-square-foot records that were set at MGM MIRAGE CityCenter. One website goes as far as hinting that MGM MIRAGE and/or Dubai World sold units to their own people and then released press

reporting: Las Vegas makes over a billion off gaming in April 2008 - Oh No! - 07/07/08 02:36 AM
According to a recent article released by Reuters, Las Vegas earned just over a billion dollars in April 2008. The figure represents a 5.1 percent gaming-revenue decrease from April 2007. Now, when you read my headline you took it as a positive thing right? Well, the gaming-revenue fact wasn't reported as positive - its

reporting: Social Media, Blogging, and the Effect on Journalism - 07/07/08 01:09 AM
If it Doesn't Bleed it Doesn't Lead? Have you ever heard that term? It's a well-known term in the world of journalism.
Just like most of us, journalists have a mortgage payment too. The question: Is the evolution of social media and blogging putting more pressure on freelance journalists to get their copy sold?
Have you

reporting: Another Day in Doom-and-Gloom Paradise. - 06/05/08 12:42 AM
Fun in the sun - yesterday, several negative stories blasted the Las Vegas high-rise condo market. This time, the doom-fodder included deaths, a strike, and a hotel cancellation. One article even reported approx. double the true number of high-rise condominium units under construction. Umm, I think my cocktail umbrella is broken.
I used to be in

Today, before I opened my AOL email I noticed a headline that read "Steep Drop Predicted for Home Prices". While the market is bad I do not believe that this type of reporting is genuine. It is all speculation and predictions. And how often do these types of predictions or speculation

Real Estate has changed a bit with blogging and the exposure of information. I think we can all agree on that. We find ourselves in the dilemna of what to report on and how to present the information without really being "reporters" by trade. We know consumers are demanding more

I am, I confess, a news junkie. It drives my family nuts. If not for the advent of DVR my kids would probably be parading around the house with picket signs reading "Give us back our mother!" or "NO news is GOOD news!" It's not so much that I love the
