About 10 years ago I took my son to the Cape May County Zoo, which is located in Cape May Court House, just of of Route 9 (Exit 11 on the GSP). 
It's not your typical zoo. There aren't any bars, cement floors, or paved pathways. The variety of animals is more limited.
