Mama makes a movie...

So, acting was a passion of mine in school that was outsted in college by preparing for a "real job" and has taken the backseat for about a decade.

After dabbling in a few local classes, auditioning a few times and trying to find my niche, it took the birth of my daughter to remind me how short life is and that if I truly wanted to act, I needed to get out there and do it!!

A camera workshop later and I found the film short movie fest called "A Place Called Sacramento"- turns out Access Sacramento sponsors this independent film fest every October and all films submitted must be thematically centered around Sacramento. So, after an audition, I got a part...ironically as a woman looking to buy a house...gotta love that!

And I am back on the acting bus. The debut is October 5 at the Crest...check out Access Sac's website for more info. And get involved next year- I dare ya!!

How motherhood changed my career...

So, really real estate was my solution to having a career with a family. My plan was: I would put in evenings and weekends at the office, come home, fix dinner, put the babe to sleep, do some more work from home. I would put the babe in daycare at 2 months and really get going!! I would be super mom, have a fit "MILF" bod, perfectly washed and detailed car, no random crumbs, toys et al in the seats. I would have perfect eye brows, a thriving business, and an adorable child.

AT 9 months pregnant, I was on fire- 3 escrows pending and I gave birth. Suddenly, reality chimed in and reminded me that sleep is key to doing all. A new mom, I was reduced to tears, trying to juggle the screams of my newborn and the jingle of my TREO. I had to ask for back-up. My good friend, Linda Perry(chime: angel music ahhhhhh) pitched in and took care of business. Life eventually got back to normal...today when I took my babe to her first solo daycare session. She's ONE. So much for the 2 month hiatus (but she's awesome, so there).

So, a bit off the path (although the car was detailed after I spilled a whole latte on the carpet last week and tried--unsuccessfully--to preempt any cows gone wild smell in the car), but getting the focus back. I am excited to be doing more than just surviving, and look forward to networking outside the mom's group (but don't knock it- moms are dabomb).

So here I am and that's it for now; mama's gotta sleep!

Next time: New mom makes a movie...
