Real Estate Companies Compared To "Brothels"? - 12/30/08 08:23 AM
Reading an article in the Arizona Daily Star Newspaper indicating that now is a good time to buy a home, I scrolled to the bottom and read all the comments submitted by the public.
Most of the comments were very negative toward Realtors, i.e., we are greedy, criminals, belong in jail, and the best comment (scroll down to #26) "real estate companies are brothels".
It's unfortunate that people judge people to that level based on a career - rather than who that person is.  And it doesn't just happen with real estate - I've heard people criticize police officers, car sale persons, lenders, etc.
And many dislike "these" people .... … (8 comments)

"These Will Be A Fun Stories To Tell" - My Top 5 Counter Offers in 2008 - 12/29/08 07:27 AM
I tend to find humor in lots of situations and sometimes, they seem to be a lot more humorous in "hindsight"! Last night, while writing up New years cards for clients, I thought about each one and noted some highlights of some of the more "interesting" counter offers I've come across this past year!
Here are my top 5 and I would love to hear yours:
1) "Dora the Explorer" and "Diego", the stuffed dolls in staged bedroom #2, shall convey with the home."  This came as a result of a Buyer's child that locked herself in the bedroom until the listing agent verbally told the … (8 comments)

Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer - He Found His Niche - 12/24/08 03:47 PM
My daughter caught a cold or flu or something that has been keeping us up for the past couple nights. When she is sick - I change my plans and usually end up getting a full dose of whatever movie she's watching that makes her feel better.
This time, Rudolph The Red-Nose Reindeer was the lucky pick. We watched it at least 14 or 15 times!  Whew!  So - here I am thinking back to my younger years watching the exact same flick.  Years ago, I cried when Rudolph was made fun of and decided to leave home. The basic moral of story...be accepting.

With This Tether "I Take Thee To Have" and To Use Everywhere! - 12/22/08 06:57 AM
Little did I know that for the past few years I had a couple of things around that could have made things a little easier in many situations with Buyers and Sellers - or even spending more time on Active Rain to read, search and comment.  (For many people who have smart phones - you've likely been doing this for a while now.  So this is geared toward the newbie or "basic-tools" only smart-phone user like myself.)
I've had a Blackberry Curve for a little while and love it! With the exception of a couple features- it's pretty simple for someone like me to use and set up.  The downside is that … (38 comments)

Taking A Harder Look At That Person In The Mirror! - 12/18/08 03:12 PM
I had one of those defining moments in my life last month.  In the emergency room, filling out a patient sheet, one of the questions was "hair color".  I wrote "brown".  When my name was called, the young person, while reading my sheet said, "Are you Gabrielle?" YES.  "Rhind?" YES!  She then said, "Oh, I was looking for someone with brown hair - yours is sorta more gray/brown." (Dang soccer kids - see previous post!) As I sat there thinking about my hair, I looked around the waiting room at people -- some in wheelchairs, some who couldn't afford co-pays, many who looked like they had not eaten in months.
At that … (46 comments)

Our Last Soccer Game Was Like Getting To The Closing Table - 12/15/08 05:40 AM
I coached one U10 soccer team and helped coach another U10 and U6 team this season.  After years of coaching, I love to watch the kids grow and improve.  It's the stuff from "after the first practice" until "the last game" - that adds to the gray hair on my head!
We finally got to the last soccer game and after all the practices where they wouldn't listen, argued with us, had fits at games (and those were just the parents!) - it ended with the best game of the season and lots of "You did a great job!", "Thanks for all your help!" and my favorite, … (4 comments)

John Wayne And Why I Won't Stage A Home! - 12/11/08 08:13 AM
I have a condo up for sale and after little activity - I did what I recommend to clients:
upgrade and stage it!
After meeting a home stager and knowing the condo market here in Tucson, I suspected I could be paying a lot of money every month for a while.  Cheaper than price drops?  Probably!  But,  I needed to "get 'er done" and the stager I liked wasn't able to help me for a few weeks to come.
So what does "in a hurry and wanting to save a buck Gabrielle" do?
What every home stagers warns us NOT TO DO - I stage it myself!

A Classic American Barber Shop - Keeping the American Dream Strong - 12/10/08 06:25 AM
A Classic American Barber Shop is a fine example of keeping the American Dream alive and strong!  With businesses closing down everyday and more going bankrupt or downsizing - it is almost unheard of that someone would START a new one!  It is so refreshing to know there are people out there who refuse to give up and still shoot for their dreams!

A Classic American Barber Shop is located at 7002 E Broadway Suite D  - 520.722.2424

Owner/Operator/Barber, Jim Bonnie, turned in his gun belt in for a pair of scissors after 25 years working in law enforcement!  Why? Jim says that … (2 comments)

Have Ya Been To Mt. Lemmmon Arizona Recently? - 12/09/08 05:33 AM
If not - you might want to see what's happened to the town of Summerhaven, Arizona in the past few years!  Mount Lemmon Arizona is a short, 24 mile drive from Catalina Highway and Mt. Lemmon Short Road on the northeast part of Tucson, Arizona.
The Mount Lemmon fires made national news in June of 2003 when the small community was rocked with a fire that nearly destroyed everything.  It's been a little over 5 years since the fire blazed through the community and in that short time - the town of Summerhaven is back up and running - and better … (3 comments)

Tucson Marathon - So Many Different Ways to Enjoy It! - 12/03/08 02:01 PM
As a previous participant in the Tucson Marathon/Half-Marathon event a few times - it's always nice to see that the proof - surprisingly - still exists (see below!)!  But over the past few years, I have become more of a run spectator and supporter of friends who are running in the Tucson Marathon!
It's one of the things that I really like about this event - it can be fun for everyone - runner or not!
Here are a few "need to knows" about the Tucson Marathon:
There is no race day registration - if you want to do it -  sign up before Sunday, … (2 comments)

National Pie Day - 12/01/08 02:43 PM
According to a calendar I saw in a book store, today is National Pie Day!
In honor of this day, I decided to take a trip up to Mt. Lemmon, Arizona for a few reasons:
1)  The Mount Lemmon Cafe is home to some famous home-made pies!
2)  The Mt. Lemmon pies have, for various reasons, had some "not so nice" reviews over the years from the local papers and visitors.  Sounds like a great pie-tasting challenge to me!
3)  The pie place (as I call it!) survived the Mount Lemmon fires of 2003 -- the fires destroyed practically everything but this little pie shop made it!
4)  The … (5 comments)
