1) Montana (0.60 percent)
2) Mississippi (0.52 percent)
3) Georgia (0.44 percent)
4) Oklahoma (0.43 percent)
5) Maine (0.42 percent)
According to the Kauffman Index, Montanans began more companies per person than residents of any other state, averaging 7 percent of people beginning small businesses each year in Montana.
The five states with the lowest rates of entrepreneurial activity were 1) Michigan (0.16 percent), 2) Pennsylvania (0.17 percent), 3) South Carolina (0.18 percent), 4) Illinois (0.18 percent), 5) Delaware (0.19 percent).

Bozeman has a new mayor, Kaaren Jacobson, sworn in on January 7, 2008. In an effort to pay for Bozeman's growth, she stated her desire is to increase road impact fees, which is contrary to a recent vote by the former city commission to reduce impact fees to 65 percent of the full rate, which is $9,172. 
More than 100 people packed the Gallatin County Courthouse not only to listen to her state of Bozeman address but to also watch the swearting in of the 2008 city commission.

According to the Center for the Rocky Mountain West, Baby Boomers shifting the traditional demographic pattern from that of retirement to warm climes to that of retirement to the cooler, mountainous regions of the Rockies, particularly Wyoming and Montana. This, in turn, is shifting the average age of the population of these states from a relatively younger to a significantly older average age. Baby Boomers are retreating north, buying homes and other types of real estate, and loving it!
