Wordless Wednesday - Buck Fever!

When I was a young(er) man, I was an avid hunter and know what buck fever is indeed. These days (I guess I am getting soft) I would rather spot through a camera lens or while I am drinking coffee with my darling wife in the mornings than to sight these majestic animals through the scope of my 30/06!

Even though they love to ravage my gardens, I must admit they take your breath away this time of year and with rut soon to hit it will only get better!

And to think, the above two are just the babies in our herd!

Real Estate is more than just a paycheck

You know, for me, Real Estate is more than just a paycheck and more than just a business transaction. Pam and I take our duties as Realtors very serious as real lives are affected either positively or negatively dependent on the service and advice that we provide our clients. That is a HUGE responsibility and one that should be taken seriously by all in the Real Estate Profession whether you are a Realtor, Home Inspector, Mortgage Broker and even the Insurance Agent.

When you are speaking about a residential real estate, you are speaking of the largest financial transaction that most American Families will make in their lifetime. You are speaking about a Family's home where dreams are supposed to come true; where warm, fond and lasting memories are supposed to originate. The Christmas, the Birthdays, the Anniversary's, etc.

This is HUGE folks - make no bones about it. The responsibility that we have is inherently to guide Families and to assist them in finding the best home for the best price when serving as the buyer's agent. It is not to see how fast we can get them under contract and to the closing table. The repercussions of screwing this up are far reaching. Granted, some do not care and granted once you hand over the keys and walk out of the closing room your 'obligation' ends - or does it?

I like my sleep as I am sure many of you do. I simply could not sleep at night if I felt that Pam or I did not do everything within our abilities to assure our client's needs were met and their concerns were answered. I just could not do it - simply not in my nature. Our obligation doesn't end when the keys are handed over - in our mind it is just the beginning of a long and lasting relationship. One that was build on client's trust and confidence is us as Realtors and as people.

This is one of those 'if the shoe fits - wear it' scenarios. A lot of times, only the client and Families that were left with questions or left with unanswered calls after they left the closing know which Real Estate professional wears this shoe. Many feel they have no recourse and sadly many times they do not depending on what issues may arise. I can guarantee you that this shoe does not, nor will it ever fit my foot or Pam's.

Think about it. On your journey to be top dog in your area of expertise - SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF. By doing so, I can assure you that your clients, both past and present will remember you and you will reap the benefits of providing a service that was both personal and professional.

Whether you are blogging for business or simply for pleasure, this is a must read blog courtesy of Mimi Foster. Mimi put alot of time and research into helping us all in navigating the numerous photo sites out there.

Free Photo Sites

Are you writing and need a perfect picture for your post? Do you need a special picture and don't have one in your personal repertoire? Here is a short list of sites that offer free use of their photos. You must make sure however, that you are not getting sucked into the ads that take you to OTHER sites and make you pay for them. You will know which ones these are because they will have a transparent "X" across the photo, and it will have a 'price menu' on the right side of the photo. Generally, if it says STOCK, there will be a charge. "Free Stock Images" are NOT FREE. Go figure. They all have their strengths, but I have three current personal favorites:

PhotoBucket and Morguefile.

Both of these allow you to enter a word in their easy to see SEARCH button, and you can look for pictures easily without having to sift thru a lot of advertising. It is also very easy to contribute your own photos to these sites. They have a HUGE selection of pictures, and you can usually find something quickly, download it easily, and be done with it.

Stock Vault is a FANTASTIC site to find photos. They have a lot of really nice photos and a nice search feature. Just make sure that when you do a SEARCH for a word that you are not using one of the five photos that appear across the top of the landing page. Anytime it says Dreamstime, the photos are NOT FREE. So just look below the top row of photos, and you should be able to come up with some pretty nice-quality free photos.

This just in ~ ANOTHER FANTASTIC SITE

Jill Sackler just mentioned Flickr's Creative Commons. It's FANTASTIC! Just go to the site and type in your search word. VOILA! This one is a great resource, and all of them on Creative Commons are free ~ donated by users of Flickr. Love this one.

Other available sites include:

PhotosBank ~ To get to the free pictures on this site, go to the bottom of their home page (all the rest is paid or advertising) and enter the word(s) that you want to search for in the Search for Photos space. When it takes you to the results for your word, the top third of the landing page is all paid photos and advertising. You ONLY want the ones in the center of the page (three across ~ unless you want to pay for some) and you are given several options on how to retrieve the free ones to your computer.

Open Photo ~ Any of the SEARCH features on this site will take you to paid photos. It has a limited search capability. You are given CATEGORIES in which to search, and they have some good photos from which to choose. One of the things that I don't particularly like about this site is that the free photos that you choose have the photographers name in the lower left corner when you upload it. It is not obtrusive at all, but my (sometimes) OCD does not particularly like that.

Turbo Photo ~ All of the SEARCH features, again, take you to paid sites for photos. You are given CATEGORIES. If you go to the Categories, you will have to sift thru more categories, and then you will be given pictures that match the sub-categories. On this site, if it says SEARCH in any location, it will take you to paid photos, so just stay in the Categories.

Free Digital Photos is NOT FREE. I could not find anywhere that they offered free photos, and if it's that difficult, I don't want to bother with them.

I call it a jungle but it is more like a nature park in our very own back yard here in Clarksville Tennessee! I must admit that I have not taken the time (never seems like there is enough!) this year to enjoy the wonderous sounds, wildlife and my Koi ponds as I should.

Whether it is the rabbits, squirrels, various birds hitting the waterfalls for a quick bath or one of the numerous feeders we do so enjoy the yard. Even our herd of deer are welcome - just wish they would leave the gardens alone!

Early Bloomers in Clarksville Tennessee

Can you believe we have Early Bloomers in Clarksville Tennessee? The flowers think it is Spring! When Tim and I were waiting to move into the house just over 13 years ago, we went to a "HOME SHOW" in Nashville at the convention center. There I saw this beautiful statue.... Tim bought it for me and here it sits in the yard. It use to sit under a huge and very old Blue Spruce tree. Unfortunately, the last time we had a mild Winter such as this the old tree was severely shocked and didn't survive.

I wanted to move the lady, Tim gave me that " You are crazy look"! I guess she is kinda heavy and Tim's not as young or as strong anymore. She might just sit here forever.

She does have a great view though...

Boat Safety Course - Saturday, August 27

The Montgomery County Conservation Club is pleased to announce a Boating Safety Course presented by the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Coast Guard Auxiliary will be giving a boater's safety class Saturday August 27, 2011, 0900 am in the Montgomery County Conservation Club House located just off Seven Mile Ferry Road. The class will last approximately 6 hours (0800 - 1500).

There are more boats on the Cumberland River than in recent years and with that more inexperienced or uneducated boat operators. The Montgomery County Conservation Club wants to ensure boat operators in the Montgomery County area are knowledgeable and educated in boating safety. Let’s keep the Cumberland River safe - Get Educated!

This is a great opportunity to improve boating safety on the Cumberland river by educating new boaters and a refresher for veteran boaters. For those born after January 1, 1989, the Coast Guard Auxiliary will proctor state exams for powerboat operator permits, you will need to pre-purchase a Type 600 Exam Permit from TWRA. Cost is $10 and you can get this permit from Walmart, Bait shops, Bass Pro, etc. (Minimum age to become certified is 11) Also, we are asking for a $10.00 donation with all proceeds going to the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
