Philip Morris Select Chicago Real Estate Firm - 10/31/08 02:14 PM
Jones Lang LaSalle from Chicago has been selected to market the 2100 acre Philip Morris site in Concord.  In June 2007, Philip Morris announced it would close the plant in 2010 and cost the county 2600 jobs.
Leaders in the community hope that someone will buy the land and facility and help replace the 2600 jobs we will be losing. 
One of the challenges of the firm will be to determine the timing of the sale.   Philip Morris has the results of a study by a land-planning firm.
With the closing of this plant, Richmond, Virginia will remain the only US production plant for Philip Morris.

Marco Casol, CEO of PreGel has been educating American Restaurants and diners about gelato since he arrived in Charlotte in 2002.   
This spring they opened a $16 million PreGel America Headquarters with over 150,000 square feet.  Plans for a $12 million expansion over the next 2 years are in the works.
Gelato is a frozen flavorful creamy Italian dessert similar to ice cream but with less fat and fewer calories.

State of the Region Summit - 10/24/08 01:09 PM
On Thursday, October 23, over 100 community business leaders came together to hear from political leaders in Cabarrus County.  The event was held at the Embassy Suites and was held by the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce. 
Speakers included Senator Robin Hayes, Mayors Scott Padgett, Tim Haigler, Bob Misenheimer and Troy Barnhardt, County Commission Chair Jay White.  In addition Pat McCrory who is running for Governor spoke.  Beverly Purdue was unable to attend.  Leaders in new positions including Diane Snyder, Marcus Smith, Ryan McDaniels and Barry Shepherd spoke on their roles within their organizations and what the future holds.

Race Community Joins Fight for Breast Cancer - 10/17/08 12:11 PM
Many of you know that I am chairing the Breast Health Campaign for NorthEast Medical Center      Foundation.   I attended the Bank of America 500  on  Saturday and was pleasantly surprised to see a number of cars painted pink in honor of October being  Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 
 In Cabarrus County 36% of eligible women receive mammograms.  This statistic is one we must work together to change.  The key to survival is early detection so I encourage you to call and get your mammogram scheduled today and remind your friends and loved ones to do the same.

Several weeks ago I attended the Leadership University in Chicago.  It was fantastic and a great opportunity to slow down and take time for reflect on my leadership skills as well as the responsibilities of being a good leader. 
 There was a great cadre including Larry Kindall, Jana Caudill, David Crockett, Kristan Cole and Melissa Crockett.  Each a great leader in their own businesses and communities.
 This was 2 and a half days full of great ideas that I am incorporating in my business plan for the year that I think will enhance my leadership for our team.
