networking: Local Networking Event - 04/23/13 07:25 AM
On Tuesday April 30th, the BNI Synapse Chapter will be hosting an evening mixer at Giovanna's in Plainfiled.  The mixer will run from 6:30pm till 8:30pm.  Food will be served, so bring your appetite and plenty of business cards!
The highlight of the evening will be a short talk presented by Beth Williams, Business Coach.  Beth is a coach and co-owner 

of Forward Focus.

The most amazing phone call came in yesterday.
Clients, let's call them Henry and Pamela, wanted to rent in Union County for a while before they commit to a location since they weren't familiar with the area, and we helped them find their perfect home. It was a very bumpy ride, but we're pleased to report that they settled happily in their new home a few weeks ago.

Back in November, we had the idea to join a BNI Neworking Group. For those of you who are unfamiliar with BNI, it was founded by Dr. Ivan Misner and is a formal business networking group that meets weekly to help build business. What makes BNI unique is that each chapter has only 1 seat for each professional specialty - 1 life insurance salesperson, 1 carpenter, 1 plumber, 1 divorce attorney, etc., and 1 residential Realtor.  Through weekly meetings, the members get to know each other and develop relationships so that each member is comfortable referring the other members business.

Building a business isn't unlike attending summer camp, at least not according to  Dave Ramsey.  

 
 
The first thing all campers have to do is find the counselor who makes sure you get to the right activities and to whom you can go for advice and help when something isn't going well for you. In the business world, some people call them mentors and they know the business well and can help steer you to the right activities. Ours is a mixed marriage - Wayne went to summer camp all summer every summer and loved it. Jean stayed home and hung with the neighborhood kids and took vacations with the family. But we both have a summer camp mentality when it comes to building our business, much as described by Dave Ramsey.

Do you network?Wayne makes it a part of his routine to attend various Chambers of Commerce meetings, independent networking meetings and real estate investor networking events. He also belongs to a BNI Chapter.
