Mustang Ridge, the Parks of Murphy - 09/30/10 05:57 PM
Yesterday I took some time out of my day to visit Mustang Park located on Mustang Ridge, Murphy, Texas. It was a great opportunity to enjoy some of the gorgeous fall weather we are experiencing in North Texas.
I must have arrived at the right time before the little ones were awaking from their naps. Initially I only saw a couple of the little ones running around the playground which gave me the chance to snap a few photo shots to share with you. By the time I was ready to leave several young moms with toddlers in tow were arriving.
One of Murphy's finest elementary schools, rated exemplary … (9 comments)

I Can Do That! Removing Permanent Marker from Dry Erase - 09/29/10 12:53 PM
I Can Do That! Removing Permanent Marker from Dry Erase
Several years ago I was prepared to conduct a training class to a small group of 50 plus associates. The training was being held in a fairly new location with all new supplies namely the big, white dry erase board. In preparation I began to go through my presentation including to draw a diagram on the white board. Once I was done reviewing I grabbed the eraser and you got it, no erase. The drawing remained on the board. Boy, did I feel not so good. My worst fear, looking at the marker, is realized. It is … (4 comments)

100K Milestone Reached with This Post! - 09/26/10 06:32 PM
It's been some exciting times in the Rain lately. On Saturday I posted my 30th blog to meet the challenge of the 30 Posts in 30 Days. It was a great feeling meeting that goal because I had my doubts in the beginning. Blogging consistently had escaped me and that challenge was a good opportunity to do something about it.
It would take a list to tell you of all the wonderful things I have learned and shared in the process. One thing I realized was that I also had an opportunity to make another milestone as well. And sure enough, … (26 comments)

An A'Maizingly Wet Day Silver-Lined By Challenge Made! - 09/25/10 07:13 PM
Today should have been a payoff day. A time to reap the benefits of all our hard work.  Our plans were made. Activities were created. Gifts were donated. The stage was set. We were ready to wow the public with our realty gifts and treats. And here came the rain.
Murphy was saturated with a heavy downpour of rain and strong winds in the wee hours of the morning. To our dismay the rain continued to make its presence known throughout the morning hours. The city officials were forced to make a call that no one really wanted to hear. They canceled the Maize Days festivities. Canceled. There was to be no corny jokes or Karaoke Corn Idol. … (4 comments)

Don't Let the Ringy-Dingy Sting You - 09/23/10 03:06 PM
Ringy-dingy one. Ringy-dingy two.
"Hello, Sunshine Realty."
"Hello, I am sitting in front of 123 Anywhere Street and I would like to see the inside of the house."
"May I ask to whom I am speaking with?"
"Bob."
"Bob." "Bob, do you have a last name? And can I ask how you came about sitting in front of the house?"
"Bob Smith; I was just driving by and I would like to see the inside of the house today."
"Thank you, Bob. When would you like to meet me at my office? I will need to get some more … (12 comments)

Autumn Is Right Up the Chimney - 09/22/10 12:09 PM
Now that Fall has officially arrived my mind is focused on the beauty of the changing of the seasons. The awesome sight of the trees as they burst forth in an array of colors. The cool, crisp air that sweeps across us in the mornings. Autumn is a wonderful time to catch up on all our outdoor activities. One of those activities could be doing some general home maintenance in preparation for the colder temps just up ahead.
Although lliving in Dallas-Ft Worth there are relatively few really cold days ~ most of the time. It is one reason why I enjoy living here. I am not a fan of the cold or the snow. It … (2 comments)

Murphy Maize Days September 24th and 25th - 09/21/10 12:37 AM
Maize Days are fastly approaching in the city of Murphy, Texas. The festivities begin on Friday, September 25th and launch a two day event. They are held on the grounds surrounding the city municipal complex located off of N. Murphy Road.
Murphy was once a farming community with corn fields plentiful. Because of its history, the city selected the name Maize Days to represent the festival. It came about due to the city's desire to recognize its 50th anniversary with the festival designed as a part of that celebration. It was such an overwhelming success with the citizens that the festival now known as Maize Days has continued as an annual event every year thereafter.
People of all ages can find something to entertain … (2 comments)

Motivational Monday ~ Profitable Lessons - 09/20/10 01:12 PM
Our most profitable lessons are learned from failure, not success. ~ Frank Davidson
Do you wake up on Monday mornings sometimes wondering where did the weekend go? It seems like the play time has turned into the run time all too quickly. Oh, Lord, here I am again ready to start the whole routine over. But am I complaining? Absolutely not!
It has been a busy and productive weekend which weekends tend to be in the life of a real estate agent. All the work of coordinating five houses to be open on Sunday in the same subdivision came to fruition. None … (6 comments)

Balloons, Balloons, Balloons - 09/19/10 10:54 AM
In the early morning, Saturday, September 18th I stood in awe with a growing crowd of spectators as we watched from afar the balloons lifting to the air on the second day of the Plano Balloon Festival. It is hard to pick a favorite so below is a sampling of the balloons that passed over us.

The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report is a national report of over 18,000 locations. Fun Friday or Friday Funny - 09/17/10 11:51 AM
Today is going to be a fun Friday. It is the start of the Plano Balloon Festival and that's a big deal for all the folks in the Plano area. Although I don't exactly live in the city limits of Plano I do live relatively close to where the Plano Balloon Festival is to be held. For those of you that do not know it's physical location it is at 2801 E Spring Creek Parkway aka Oak Point Park. One advantage of being a local resident is also knowing some cool spots outside of the crowd a person can go to watch the balloons lift up into the … (7 comments)

the flowers of all tomorrows are the seeds of today... - 09/16/10 12:39 PM
Today's blog title, the flowers of all tomorrows are the seeds of today, is believed to have originated from an old Indian proverb. I came across it because a friend of mine had posted the proverb on their Facebook status. I found my mind being drawn back to that saying over and over. As I thought upon the words themselves, I began to wonder about how it related to my life and what kind of flowers had I planted.
The more I thought about it the more I realized how much the saying does apply to everything we do including real estate and blogging. When the challenge was made to post 30 … (13 comments)

I SPY ~ Murphy, TX It's a Good Life! - 09/14/10 11:03 AM
Remember when you were a kid how traveling in the car could get way too long? On our family road trips we kids would often play a version of the game I SPY. It would help to make the miles go by. At least until we would get on the rowdy side and dad would put an end to the game. I always enjoyed those games of play.
Today's games are electronic and way more technical than our games ever were. Facebook alone gives us games, networking and business pages. I have a page on Facebook called Murphy Texas It's a Good Life. One day I … (5 comments)

The Zealous Blogger - 09/13/10 12:14 AM
I am now the Zealous Blogger. Blogging in the 30D30C has really helped me with staying focused on the need for consistency. Until Sunday I considered this a good thing as blogging iinconsistently I figured was hurting my chances of building any type of continuous rapport with members or the public. Sunday, as I have been doing throughout the last ten days or so, I posted my blog in the wee hours of the morning and off to bed I went.
When I awoke I took the opportunity to check up on my blog to see if there was any need for immediate response or concern. … (24 comments)

How to Organize a Neighborhood Open House - 09/12/10 12:07 AM
You've heard of the neighborhood where residents agree to host a garage sale on the same date and time as other residents. But have you been to the neighborhood where sellers and their listing agents agree to host open houses on the same date and time? If you would be interested in organizing a neighborhood open house here's some of the basic steps to do to get started as the organizer. Each neighborhood and its character is different so plan yours according to the local area and its charm.
The initial step in the whole process should be to identify the benefits of hosting … (8 comments)

Plano Balloon Festival 2010 - 09/11/10 12:25 PM
If you live in or around the city of Plano you are probably very much aware that the weekend of the Plano Balloon Festival is quickly approaching. For 31 years the skies of Northeast Dallas have been filled with the colorful array of the hot air balloons coming from all different parts of the country. For anyone who has never been to the festival and can make the journey to the festival it is well worth the trip. My favorite attraction is the evening glow when all of the hot air balloons are lite at dusk and oh, what a beautiful site they are … (5 comments)

CONSUMER Awareness: Spell Realtor ~ R-E-S-P-E-C-T - 09/11/10 12:19 AM
It's been a busy morning already which is typically true of most folks. Up early to prepare for the day; catch up quickly on correspondence and other news then out the door for the first scheduled appointment. On the way over I am thinking all kinds of thoughts like what a beautiful morning, do I have time to make a quick stop and I really do hope this person I am about to meet likes the property. They showed such keen interest in it yesterday.
Yesterday I was reading a fellow member's blog about the lack of respect that real estate agents receive. It … (4 comments)

Friday Funnies ~ Three Kids - 09/10/10 12:29 AM
Today's Friday Funnies is truly a classic; if you have heard before I hope you enjoy again.
Three kids on the school playground were bragging about who has the best dad. The first kid says, "My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a poem, and they give him $100." The second kid says, "That's nothing. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a song, and they give him $1000." The third kid says, "My Dad is even better than that. He scribbles some words on a piece of paper, calls it a … (16 comments)

Just What Is It About the Rain That Keeps Me Blogging - 09/09/10 12:31 AM
The other day as my husband and I were driving our way home we saw an unusual sight I don't think I have ever seen before. It was about mid-afternoon with cloudy skies and the temperature was in the low 80s range. A young man was mowing his front yard. And he had his water sprinkler going full blast while he was mowing. I guess he likes to mow in the rain.
I like to blog in the Rain only I don't need a sprinkler. But the Rain, ActiveRain affords me with benefits that make the experience of blogging on their social network site enjoyable and rewarding. The … (12 comments)

Effects of Hermine ~ Not a Wordless Wednesday - 09/08/10 05:00 PM
Here in the Dallas metroplex we have been feeling some of the effects of the tropical storm Hermine over the past day or so. Today it has been a rather steady down pour of rain with wind in the mix. Some areas are showing signs of flooding. I did hear of streets being closed in the area. The local evening news will probably have all kinds of stories about Hermine and its effects but not this one.
What caught my attention from all of the events of today was this little bunny rabbit. I'm not sure where the bunny was taking shelter during the down pour of … (8 comments)

Murphy TX Market Report September 2010 - 09/07/10 12:51 AM
Murphy Texas Housing Trends

August has been a decent time to sell a single family home in Murphy Texas. Some analysts projected a drop in the housing market due to the fact that school started as well as the earlier fall out of buyers from the first time homebuyers tax credit. It is certainly not reflected in city of Murphy. The market data results given below offer the home buyer or seller a snapshot of the current housing trends during the month.
As of August 1, 2010, the market shows an increase in the homes available. Normally an increase in housing inventory could cause a concern for sellers but Murphy also shows an increase in the number of homes sold as … (0 comments)

Motivational Monday ~ Freedom From Fear - 09/06/10 12:01 AM
Is there any real freedom from fear? Lately I have grown weary of hearing about all the doom and gloom of our present economy. Reason for that lies much in the fact that we are not seeing any light to the end of the tunnel. Daily we hear of more and more foreclosures on properties all across our nation. I can't help but wonder if we have become complacent. After all every foreclosure represents someone loosing their home and usually because they lost their livelihood through no real fault of their own.
I showed a rental house to a couple over the weekend who is facing … (16 comments)

Labor of Love - 09/05/10 01:23 AM
One thing I like most about a long holiday weekend at home is that often times it affords me an opportunity to just sit back, kick my feet up and r-e-l-a-x. That's not really something one gets to do very often while working in the field of real estate on a weekend. I have truly come to appreciate holidays for more than a paid day off especially given that real estate agents don't really have the benefit of a "paid" holiday.
What really surprises me is that most folks do not know or understand how a real estate agent receives their compensation. I have had people I … (10 comments)

Where to Find Wylie East High School in Wylie Texas - 09/04/10 01:04 AM
Most everyone in the area knows about the newest high school in Wylie, Texas. After all, it's simply named Wylie East. But lots of folks are not real sure where to find the high school. It is located on the edge of the city off of Hwy78 N. The street itself is now named Wylie East Drive (formerly Bennet Rd). If you travel like I do it is the third street on the right from the intersection where Walmart is located.
I feel pretty comfortable with my driving directions for now since Walmart is fairly new to the area and the streets have recently been renamed. There is a new … (2 comments)

Ask...and You Shall Receive - 09/03/10 12:05 AM
On a previous post I wrote about a concern I had regarding a blog post that did not register on my points summary nor did I get any credit for actually posting the blog. Well, I can report today that I did receive a positive response from the AR Support who assures me that the post will count towards my 30 posts in 30 days challenge. Even though I still don't have the points for posting the blog it was really good news for me. I need all the blogs I have posted for the short run on consecutive blogging I already have in the works. But there's something else that I didn't know prior to … (22 comments)

I Love Being a Realtor Because... - 09/02/10 12:47 AM
I recently participated in an online survey of sorts by the National Association of Realtors. NAR wanted those agents that were Realtors to complete the sentence "I Love Being a Realtor Because...". A week or so later I received an email correspondence stating that my response would be included in the printed article for their national magazine.
It was small print and about as easily missed as the online survey was. A couple of weeks after the publication I received in the mail a small pin like the image that you see at the end of the blog subscription below. I liked my … (18 comments)
