Rely on contractors. - 02/27/09 12:22 PM
Working with a couple that wanted to turn a porch into a bath. I knew that it could be done but I knew from what they were saying that they needed to have someone else tell them what it all would involve. WOW were they surprised when the contractor went through everything that would be needed for them to do what they had thoughts of doing. The buying public knows what they want, but some have a hard time with what it will all take to get the job done. I'm so glad that I brought in a contractor before we … (0 comments)

I love my job. - 02/27/09 12:18 PM
I love being a Realtor and having the flex time with my day. I do put in the hours that I need to as far as work, but the benefits of having the flexablility to do stuff with my family and grandkids is wonderful. I've thought about going back to work at least part time and I sit and make the list of possitives and negatives and I just don't know that I want to be on someone else's schedule right now. I would say that I'm spoiled being able to set my own hours and being able to work around … (0 comments)

How we say what we say. - 02/26/09 11:33 AM
I've been involved in a small group over the last few weeks. We have focused on communication. It's amazing that the same spoken words mean different things to men and women.  Someone would make a comment, then we would say I just understood you to say blah, blah. They would say no that's not what I meant.
I think that everyone needs to be mindful that what we say in many cases in understood differently than what we intended.
In business we all need to make sure that what we say is understood buy those we are talking to. This can … (1 comments)

What we say and how we say it. - 02/26/09 08:01 AM
I've been involved in a small discussion group over the last few weeks. This was very eye opening. Men and women most definately comprehend what is said verbally very differently. When we are with clients we really need to be asking both the man and the women if we are working with a couple if they understand or if they have any further questions about something that you have said.
In our group we would listen to what someone said, then would say, I just understood you to say, repeat back what you thought they were trying to get you to understand. It was … (4 comments)

Great Book YES attitude - 02/26/09 07:39 AM
I've read and reread a book by Jeffrey Gitomer "Little Gold Book of YES Attitude.
I know that I've read it through twice and have opened it so many time just to read a couple of pages for a boost. Best sales, attitude book that I have come across. Several of the agents in my office have this book and there is also a little red book of sales. These are great reads.

Responses to 5-5-10 for Open houes. - 02/13/09 06:48 AM
Glad to be able to share an idea that has been working for quiet a few of the agents in this area. Most of the time, people like to know their neighbors, so this way if you have a house coming on the market let the neighbors know right away and ask if they know of anyone looking for a house. It's a great lead generator.

5-5-10 for open houses. - 02/12/09 06:26 AM
I'm sure that there are many of you that use the 5-5-10 for opens. If you do not, it's a way to get more folks to your opens. Leave an invite to your open with 5 houses to the left, 5 houses to the right and the 10 across the street. If they have a friend or know of someone looking, they will tell them. People like to know who is moving into their neighborhood. Good luck with all of your open in the next month.

Cedar Rapids Flood from june 2008 - 02/10/09 06:34 AM
My husband and I went on a mission trip last week to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It's only a little over an hours drive from the Quad Cities. Last June they had a 500 year flood. There were 5,380 homes that were flooded. WOW what an eye opener. Here it is 8 months later and this area is like a ghost town. We were 5 blocks from the river and at street level there was about 10 feet of water in this area. The owner stood with her hand at ear level inside of her home and told us that is how … (0 comments)
