Woodinville is Wine Country. It is host to over 59 wineries and 31 tasting rooms and has annual wine tasting events that people flock here to attend.
A few months ago my friend and co-worker Samuel invited me to a little place he likes in town called

This place is out of this world! They feature a different wine maker each week with wine tastings for only $5. My favorite so far was Chandler Reach Vineyards - poured by winemaker Richard Corella. The guy was a hoot, his jokes were bad and the wine was incredible!
There is live music every Friday & Saturday night from 7 til 10. The music is jazzy & blues varies with local performers like Michael Powers (http://www.michaelpowersmusic.com/) Narayan and Janet (http://www.narayanjanet.com) and Jazz in the Corner (http://jazzinthecorner.com/)
Not only do they have wine, but also Beer tasting - and a wonderful coffee shop. The menu is full of great appetizer type foods. There is a wine corner where you can purchase wine to take home, a meeting room and free wi-fi.. I have held a business meeting there as well hosted as a birthday event. Recently they have become a meet up place for Woodinville Chamber of Commerce networking events.
Go see Rudy, Joanna, Karin, John and the Gang at Fortunato's and tell them I sent you! 17410 133rd Ave NE Woodinville, WA 98072

My Husband Andy and I take a day each week to wander around Woodinville. As he is a native and I am still discovering Woodinvilles secret treasures - I decided to share this awesome park!
Wilmot Gateway Park, Woodinville's first community park, is named after Jerry Wilmot, one of the founding fathers of the City of Woodinville. It's located right downtown across from the baseball fields.
Once you park and step through the gates you'll see pathways of engraved bricks, tiles & raised planters. The park has the Sammamish River Trail running adjacent to it and there are walkers, runners, bicyclists and lot's of geese there. We walked for awhile, sat on the side of the river and just enjoyed a lazy afternoon here. Of course - there's always the boyhood stories. How Andy and his brother used to catch fish here - or catch crawdads. Once their parents even let them camp overnight next to the river!
There is also a playground, picnic shelters and nice, clean bathrooms. It's really a great place to have lunch, take a walk or just hang out. I even saw a little bunny in the bushes!
There is also a playground, picnic shelters and nice, clean bathrooms. It's really a great place to have lunch, take a walk or just hang out. If you would like to wander around Woodinville with me sometime - give me a call!
In my series "W andering around Woodinville" I share some interesting places I am discovering.
This week, my darling husband Andy and I had a lunch date at the Horseshoe Saloon aka "the Shoe".
The Horseshoe Tavern is located just west of downtown at:
12461 NE Woodinville Drive, Woodinville WA 98072
It's in the "dive bar" category - but the beer was cold and the food was delicious! Our lunch was under $20 including the beer!

Yes it is OLD - I'm sure it has lots of stories to tell. A native of Woodinville - Andy told me stories while we were there about how there used to be an old mill across the street where there are now a bunch of warehouses. i heard about a car wreck and some neighbors he grew up with. The bartender Terri chimed in an gave her two cents about the area too. I always love to hear my husband remember "the old days" in his town.
Lunch specials every day. Tuesday is Taco day. Taco's for $1.25 - Andy said they were great. He ate 3 and all of my leftovers!
For me - dive bars mean great burgers. I was not disappointed.
Check out this deal for just $6.99. Cheeseburger with sauted fresh mushrooms and homeade french fries. Elbow lickin good!

After this incredible lunch - we went for a walk in a nearby park along the river.
But that my friends - is a story for next time in my adventures Wandering around Woodinville.
Priced at $187,900

We all look forward to the big party on New Years Eve - here in the Seattle area, many people like to party downtown so that we have a good view of the fireworks display at the Space Needle up close and personal. This was the year for the Nelson's! No kids to worry about, so like half the city - we decided to roll downtown.
First of all - I was so tired I should have just stayed home, but I had purchased a to-die-for outfit that deserved to be worn on NYE and we had $150 reservations. Dressed to Kill - Andy and I rocked in the New Year with Shelley and the Curves, a great local band that we have seen a few times. It was raining at Midnite, so while the rest of the party went outside, I watched the fireworks show from the doorway. After the show was over the band resumed - kicking up the disco we love to dance to. (Did I mention that I can NEVER stay up much past midnite???) I was SO tired, but watching the downtown area become a parking lot, I knew we couldn't leave for at least an hour, so I resigned myself to the geriatric type of dancing - you know, where you sit at your table and your fingers dance because the rest of you can't possibly move. On the other hand, Andy was ready to party - so when the band kicked up Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" they cleared the floor and he began his own dance show. He does this criss-cross dance step he thinks is really cool.... I decided it was time to go. The second we walked out the door Andy nearly collapses. He has blown his knee out. I have no idea where he parked the car - so we have to walk nearly 4 blocks.
We got NO sleep, Andy is in unbearable pain and cannot even walk, so we call his doctor's office. They send us to Urgent Care. The doctor tells us that he has sprained his knee and prescribes a leg brace, crutches, bed rest, pain meds - and check in with the regular doc on Monday. Regular Dr. Larry can't see him until Tuesday (now Day 5). At Tuesday's appointment the Dr. Larry agrees with Urgent Care doctor's diagnosis and sends him to get an MRI. We make an MRI appointment for Wed, but now Dr. Larry's assistant calls and tells us the insurance company won't give them an authorization for the referral until Friday. WHAT!!!! I call the insurance company furious. They tell me that Dr. Larry or his nurse just needs to call them and read the chart notes. Hmmm, that shouldn't be too hard - right????? Well, Dr. Larry dictates his chart notes. A transcriptionist picks them up, transcribes them and returns them. FRIDAY. That means we can't have the MRI appointment until Monday (Day 10) I call Dr. Larry's office and demand that someone just pick up the da*n phone and tell them what they need to get an Authorization - we have only just been in! I am sure by my 3rd phone call and my threat to come and sit in the office until I get what I need, the office girl has created a voodoo doll with my face on it, but finally at 5:30, we hear from Dr. Larry - who although very put out, calls the insurance company and gets the authorization for the MRI.
Here is what the MRI results show....Andy has a horizontal tear in his medial meniscus, a large cyst under his kneecap and a bad sprain. If the "system" had their way - he would still be in bed, on meds and no real diagnosis....Instead of discovering this on Monday, we now have an appointment with an Orthopedic surgeon. Can't wait to see how dysfuncitional this system will get.
I'll bet Andy thinks twice though about clearing the floor with his criss-cross dance step again - and next year, we will watch the fireworks show at the Space Needle from the TV!

It's the Monday after a long holiday weekend. My First Time Homebuyer is going to meet me at his new home at 5:00. We are both excited! He is already monitoring his bank account and texts me saying the funds are transferred. I tell him we just need to wait for recording numbers to be recorded with the County.
11:00 I get an email from Escrow saying they have released for recording - YAY!!! I tell my client that we should have recording by 3.
3:00 No phone call.
3:30 I call Escrow to ask if we are recorded. "Well normally we would be calling about now to say that we are recorded" she says, "But I just got off the phone with the title company and they haven't received the ORIGINAL docs. I called UPS and they can't find them."
Frustrated and disappointed, my First Time Homebuyer must spend another night in his rented apartment. If UPS can't find the docs, we will have to send a new set out to re-sign tomorrow.
Bummer!
December 29, 2009
We are issuing new docs. UPS can't even find the tracking number in their system. Buyer re-signs, seller wants to wait until tomorrow now.
BUT WAIT! 10:30 am....UPS mysteriously delivers.....THE DOCUMENT PACKAGE!!!!
Whew! Happy New Year First Time Homebuyer!
Christmas has Struck a Mighty Blow!
It is two days after Christmas.
I feel like I have been through a storm.
Together my husband and I have seven children. Six of them were with us at Christmas this year, plus a significant other. There was a sea of wrapping paper, boxes and ribbons. Shopping for that many kids takes alot out of me. I am a perfectionist and want to make sure each gift is perfect. It is my greatest reward to hear "Wow Mom I LOVE this!"
My three oldest kids live on their own and went to their respective homes yesterday. My husbands two oldest live in Texas and the one who was here this year left today. The two little ones that live with us are at their other parents houses today. I am alone in the house and am listening to my new CDs and cleaning.
Ahhhh.....the peace.
or should I say the Calm Before the next Storm????
Tomorrow I have a closing and a listing appointment. Roll in 2010 - I'm ready!
