Or maybe something a bit stronger!
This was taken last year at Chris Costello's family fun Halloween house in Forest Lake. Chris tries to set up his elaborate display every year weather permitting. It is located on the north side of the lake just off North Shore Trail and it is FREE! For additional photos, video and information click the photo above...If you dare!

family activities: Haunted House in Forest Lake, MN? Or Just a Nightmare on Jason Street? - 10/14/10 10:33 AM
As a REALTOR® I know a Minnesota does not have to disclose paranormal activity when selling their home but this is one haunted house I wanted to share with everyone in the north and east Twin Cities metro. Paranormal activity runs rampant at this house just north of the lake, but this haunting is only once a year and is all in good fun! Last Halloween, I had the chance to visit this fantastic (and FREE) haunted house in Washington County just off of North Shore Trail. Chris Costello has set up his home on Jason St., in Forest Lake, MN … (11 comments)

family activities: Lendt’s Pumpkin Patch—A Not-to-be-Missed Tradition in Wyoming, MN - 10/13/10 04:33 AM
Fond autumn memories--Holding tightly to my kindergartener’s hand as we stepped off the bus into the Lendt Pumpkin Patch! We walked hand in hand to the tractor for our ride into the field to pick out the perfect orange beauty to carve into a jack-o-lantern for our front porch step. With dozens of other excited children and their parents or grandparents by their sides, we sat on our hay bales for the bumpy ride across the well worn track. A few minutes later tractor pauses and everyone scrambles out to find their idea of perfection. Large or small, every pumpkin was … (0 comments)

family activities: Baby Sucks Lemons at the Minnesota State Fair! - 08/26/10 05:02 AM

Did you feel it when you woke up this morning? That tingling of anticipation? That unmistakable rush of excitement when you heard that the gates opened at 6 AM this morning? If you did, you are undoubtedly a Minnesotan! Yep the cars and people started streaming onto the streets of the MN State Fair at the crack of dawn this morning. All the TV news programs were there showing what we could expect new in the line of food on a stick…or heart attack on a paper tray if you saw the chicken-fried bacon strips and deep-fried bologna. (But don’t … (8 comments)

family activities: Wordless Wednesday (Almost)--Flying Cow? Only at the Minnesota State Fair - 08/11/10 02:19 AM

After so many comments on the police or sheriff cable car from my previous Speechless Sunday post, I figured that many would enjoy a seeing the cow painted cable car too! For the record, most cars are just plain solid colors but there are a few that are "pimped" out!

family activities: Speechless Sunday (Almost)--Above the Crowd at the MN State Fair! - 08/08/10 10:58 AM

RE/MAX real estate professionals are known to go above the crowd...usually in the famous red and white balloon. (Okay, if you want to see the balloon pictures I took in White Bear Lake last year, click here.) But I took the opportunity to take a quick trip above the crowd on the Skyride, one of the permanent fixtures at the Minnesota State Fair, last summer. Quite a view that shouldn't be missed if you are going to the fair this summer!

family activities: Using BUILDINGS to Get YOUR Message Across! - 08/05/10 11:18 AM
Never look at REAL ESTATE the same way again! Most people who have played with Google Space realize that every building has it's own unique shape from above. One inventive Minnesotan realized that many structures resemble letters of the alphabet in an aerial view. As a REALTOR ®, I do tend to look closely at the exterior of buildings but rarely like this! The creator of geogreetings.com spent hours searching out aerial views of buildings to find a shape resembling each letter. The greetings are linked to a Google map feature indicating where the letter (or structure) is located. Many are … (10 comments)

family activities: Is Your Mama a Llama Lover? Head Over to the Washington County Fair Grounds on Mom's Day! - 04/30/09 08:57 AM
Llamas are cool. I always loved reading the picture book, "Is Your Mama a Llama?" to my kids when they were toddlers. Because of the story, whenever I had to take the kids to visit their doctor in White Bear Lake, we detoured past the two llamas that lived off of Hwy 96 and Ottertail Rd. I don't think they still reside on that property. Llamas are a rare site in the Twin Cities; one you remember after you see them. There used to be another farm in the community of Shafer in Chisago County where I would see llamas peeking … (9 comments)

family activities: Como Park Minnesota Eye Candy—Spring Photo Tour of Conservatory - 04/26/09 03:37 AM
A visit to Como Park in St. Paul, Minnesota brings back so many wonderful memories. As a kid it was a place for the annual summer family reunion with all of the cousins, aunts and uncles. I enjoyed skipping along the stone walkways, through the beautiful flowers in the Como Zoo Conservatory and begging for pennies from my grandmother and great aunts, Ida and Ann, so I could make a wish in the rock fountain Koi pond. It was wonderful to dream of my future wedding where I would have photos taken in this lovely building.
As a college student, the … (6 comments)

family activities: Enjoy a Saturday Pictorial Walk in the Park--Como Park Zoological Garden That Is! - 04/25/09 11:01 AM

A visit to Como Park in St. Paul, Minnesota brings back so many wonderful memories. As a kid it was a place for the Summer family reunion and a destination for school field trips. As a college student, I enjoyed riding my bike around the lake as it was a short distance from my Hamline University campus dorm. My husband and I spend several of our first dates walking around the park, feeding the ducks at the lake and seeing the Como Zoo animals up close and very personal in their original small cages. Almost every weekend, as a … (12 comments)

family activities: Beauty on an October Afternoon in Stillwater, Minnesota (LOCALISM FEATURED) - 10/23/08 08:05 AM
MEA weekend is very special in Minnesota. The third Thursday and Friday in October are always the Minnesota Education Association's convention which means a four day weekend to all families with children in Minnesota schools. Our family has almost always used this as a travel weekend as it is off season for many vacation areas. This year we had to stay in town but my husband took off work anyway and I put my real estate business on hold and we spent a family day enjoying the fall colors along the river in Stillwater, Minnesota.
Okay Stillwater, Minnesota is not exactly a … (64 comments)

family activities: MN State Fair Photos--The Great Minnesota Get Together is Almost Ready! Are YOU? - 08/14/08 02:39 AM
It's Coming! We are just a week away from the GREAT Minnesota get together...better known as the Minnesota State Fair! Preparations for this fabulous event were well underway early this week. Though it looks a bit of a ghost town as of Monday when I dropped off a few entries at the education building, there were signs of the frantic activity soon to come.

Trailers were parked strategically near displays and buildings still without signage.
Crews of hard working men were pulling up tents and working on other displays.

Though only a solitary piece of red farm equipment adorned Machinery Hill, … (16 comments)

family activities: Where's the Playground? A Key to Parks in Ham Lake Minnesota - 04/30/07 02:13 AM
When my family first moved to Ham Lake from the city, my boys were the perfect playground age group. They spent hours of time and burned off tons of energy on the swings, slides and money bars in our North St. Paul neighborhood. Of course, Ham Lake being more rural, the playgrounds and parks are well hidden. We drove around for hours and finally just used the McKinley school playground near Constance and Highway 65.
To help your family find a playground more quickly, here is a key to parks and playgrounds in the City of Ham Lake. Hopeful there is one near … (0 comments)

family activities: Hidden Treasures near Ham Lake, Minnesota - 04/19/07 04:36 AM
It is amazing how many unique activities and fun adventures you can have minutes your home. As a Realtor in the northeast metro area of the Twin Cities, I am often asked, "What can we do for fun?" Here are some of my families' favorite hidden treasures in Anoka County that remind us of why we love living in Ham Lake, Minnesota.
Who wouldn't love a pony ride! Bunker Hills Stables is a wonderful place to spend a family day. It is a great opportunity to bond with your younger child or grandchild as you lead them on a pony down the … (2 comments)
