A Day Trip from Mesa to Phoenix, Arizona - Botanical Gardens - Chihuly: The Nature of Glass - 01/30/09 08:34 PM
We took one of our day trips from Mesa, Arizona today - about 1/2 hour west of Mesa into Phoenix/Tempe area. There is a special blown glass display which is scattered and integrated into the Desert Botanical Garden. It is located at 1201 North Galvin Parkway, Phoenix 85008.
This is Chihuly's first installation entirely within a desert garden environment. I've uploaded quite a few of the photos HERE ON Flickr and invite you the check them out. I have also included some special photos here to whet your appetite. There is so much to see here, in our very own state … (16 comments)

Back in the Blogging Saddle Again! Have You Ever Experienced Being on the Outside Looking In? - 01/29/09 05:10 PM
On Thursday evening, the 22nd of January, I had the experience of being on the outside and looking in to Active Rain. I felt like an outsider! Why? Because I could not log in. The door was locked!! Each time I would comment, the only thing that could be seen was my little lady and my signature. Sigh! And I couldn't even get my blog post to go through! I felt "invisible."  As many of us know that post regularly on Active Rain, this was frustrating to me. Of course, I contacted my buddy Brad Andersohn to see if he could figure … (20 comments)

Does Social Networking Bring Business? - 01/28/09 06:13 PM
THE FIRST THING I WANT TO SAY IS: I've missed being here on Active Rain. I've been locked out for almost a week. More on that later!!!
Everytime I read about another suggested social site to join, I'm there!!! Everytime someone introduces anything that I feel would enable me to communicate better with the potential consumers and/or real estate professionals, I truly believe it's worth my time to investigate the new opportunity. Mostly it's with my real estate buddies and those that I've met through them; however, I'm branching even further out.
As you can see from the sidebar, there is … (25 comments)

What's In a Name? and A Reminder about NATIONAL HUGGING DAY - TODAY!!! - 01/21/09 09:12 PM
Recently, I've been noticing that bloggers misspell names! One of my pet peeves (I've shared another one or two this past week) is misspelling "my" name. Because it bothers "me," then I'm particularly careful about looking at the name (right there before my eyes) and making sure I respond back with the correct spelling! I know, I know....but if you don't pay attention to those little details, what about your client's names when you put them on a contract? Our names are important to us for many reasons, and our clients feel the same way...SPELL THEIR NAMES CORRECTLY!
Just a little … (29 comments)

Ahhhhh To Get A Word In Edgewise! How NOT Listening is a Deterrent in Real Estate AND Life! - 01/20/09 07:30 PM
First scenario: I just recently received a call from a childhood friend...waaaaay back when. This person didn't ask me about "me," just rattled on and on and on and on repeating the same thing over again. I can assume that this individual is lonely, BUT are WE ever the ones that dominate and DO not listen or HEAR or TAKE A BREATH. Every time I thought this individual had taken a breath and I would try and interject anything, they would just talk over me. Needless to say, I've memorized the phone number and won't soon pick up the phone.

Real Estate Professionals! Communication is Key! How Long Does it Take to Pick up the Phone? - 01/19/09 09:06 PM

This is somewhat of a rant - I know, unusual for me, but I gotta tell you that I consider it downright RUDE when someone doesn't call me back - ESPECIALLY Realtors - when I'm submitting an offer to purchase one of YOUR listings. They could send a message via pony express for all I care - JUST COMMUNICATE! NO WONDER Realtors get such a bad rap!
Here's my story in a nutshell and I'm stickin' to it!

On Saturday - last, I call the agent, tell him/her that I will be submitting an offer for his/her listing. They … (32 comments)

Mesa, and Phoenix, Arizona - A Paradise for Hikers! Hiking Trails in Phoenix Valley! - 01/17/09 09:36 PM
If you love to hike, you will LOVE Arizona. Right now, we are unusually warm - in the mid to high 70's, but it's perfect for being outdoors. For anyone that hikes or just wants to stroll along a trail, be sure to be prepared. Bring plenty of water and a cell phone.  Even when I take a stroll - because it certainly isn't a "hike" for me, I bring water, and I'm never alone.
When those that are unfamiliar with our climate, exit the airplaine with shorts and t-shirts, (coming from the east) they're ready to rock and roll and … (16 comments)

Just checking out some of my first Bookmarked Active Rain Posts! Wondering Where People Go! - 01/16/09 09:57 PM
I was looking around my bookmarked (about a zillion) posts for inspiration tonight, and noticed that my first post was in July 2006!
1. I didn't post much for awhile, and my first "bookmarked" post was in February 2007, the one about Flickr by Joe Zekas. That was my first introduction to Flickr. I actually bookmarked a few of his posts. He announced he would be leaving the Rain.
2.  One of my next bookmarked posts was written by Rick Schiffer entitled the Hidden Value of Comments. His last post was in October 2008 - maybe he'll return.
3.  Yet another … (12 comments)

Tips for Twitter Fans - the Follow Me Button Revealed! - 01/15/09 09:56 PM
If you tweet like I do on twitter, there are lots of fun tools you can use. There are follow me twitter buttons, like my little bird at the bottom of my post, and there are lots of fun colors, etc. All you do is: sign on to twitbuttons, type in your twitter name at the top, and then copy and paste your new "follow me" toy. You can also grab the html code and paste it into your blog here or your other blogs, so people will know how to follow you. If you stop by my twitter page, you'll … (33 comments)

Phoenix, Arizona Valley and Southeast Valley MLS Stats from December-January 5, 2009 - 01/15/09 08:57 PM
I'm always interested in numbers and graphs and statistics to get a temperature of the market. I've received NO less than five calls within the last week from potential buyers. They are circling the valley. My brother received a call just today from two buyers looking in the west valley for irrigated, acreage. Can you believe? Two acres, large home with a full basement on an irrigated lot with horse stalls, and the home was built in the past few years? $299,000! Oh, how I wish I had lots of extra money around to pick up this value....We are both thinking, … (7 comments)

Bloggers - Would a Judge Rule in Your Favor? - 01/14/09 09:16 PM
As a former paralegal who wrote and submitted documents to courts, asking very busy Judges to read and believe and rule in favor of my client based on what was written, I learned some important ways to present my client's case:
1.  Give your documents plenty of white space. A page full of words "may" entice the reader to see about two-five lines...then the glazed over look kicks in.
2.  Create some interest with pictures, with clip art, with? just to break up the "words." Obviously, in legal documents, I didn't include clip art, but I did use BOLD, UNDERLINING, CAPS … (26 comments)

Mesa, Arizona and Home Owners Everywhere! Beware of those Vampires! - 01/13/09 11:29 PM
Are you watching? Are you paying attention? Now that I have your attention, here's the deal:  I have a TON of electronic "stuff." I suspect that most of us are aware that even though our computers or other electronic devices are turned "off," but plugged in, they are still drawing power. The electric company refers to them as "vampires."
Computers are among the energy vampires in many homes; however, we can contain their energy appetities by using the new power strips which automatically turn off the printer, scanner and monitor when the computer is shut down. I generally leave mine on, … (15 comments)

Mesa, Arizona and the Phoenix, Valley - House Swapping? Is it a Good Idea? Or Not? - 01/12/09 09:14 PM
A few months back, I posted a blog about a house swap that my client and another seller/buyer had consummated here in Mesa, Arizona. It was a wonderful experience. There were no problems, and the other agent and I worked seamlessly with one another. As in many instances, my client was looking for a larger home, and the other a smaller home. They loved each other's homes, financed through their own lenders, and closed on time.
Last night I heard on the news that many homeowners are swapping homes, that it's the new rage! Could it be they are swapping homes … (14 comments)

Mesa, Arizona - Suggestions to Protect Tenants in Event of Foreclosure! - 01/11/09 07:51 PM
I've posted an article or two warning potential tenants in and around the Phoenix Valley and Mesa, Arizona that some of the landlords are upside down - thereby creating foreclosure proceedings. One of the unintended victims: the tenant. I have been searching for a way for the tenant to protect themselves in this situation. I've listed four ideas below:
Try and find out just when the home was purchased. Sometimes you can do this through a Realtor or the title company, or on line with the Maricopa County Recorder's Office. Finding out the year (2004-2006) could be a red flag. Better … (20 comments)

Why Are We Here? On The Rain? My Reasons Why! - 01/09/09 11:20 PM
Why are we here on Active Rain? Why do we subscribe, post, comment, communicate, interact, tweet, on the Active Rain forum?I was thinking about this subject - (I'm a thinker) especially since I, and so many others here, contribute hours of our time each day, week and month to posting, and commenting here on the Rain. Some of my reasons include:

1.  To learn about the many very cool tools available and shared by many2.  To share what I know, and share what I think and feel3.  To socialize, connect and meet as many of you as possible4.  To bond with … (25 comments)

Question? Are you in control? Are you in charge? What Type of Attitude Counts? - 01/08/09 09:51 PM
Does anyone else make lists? Here's a list I compiled, and each time I come across a good thought or a good idea or reminder, I add it to this list. It will continue to grow, but here are some basic rules that I believe, I think, and I do. I know that I am in control of what I think, about how I feel, about how I react or act. I do not allow others to determine how I will feel or how I will act.I do not let others control my future or my decisions. I know that I … (27 comments)

Mesa and Phoenix, Arizona - Essential Energy Savings Tips For the Winter! - 01/07/09 10:27 PM

Some Arizona Energy Saving Tips! Those of us who live year round in Arizona, are fairly energy efficient during the summer months because of our higher electric bills; however, during the winter, we need be equally as diligent in exercising care. Just a few small tips will save us the money we would prefer spending on food, clothing, and necessities:1.  Set your thermostat between 66-68 degrees (health permitting) - and at night, turn your thermostat off....stay warm under comforters and blankets. We wear longer sleeved shirts, and flannels around the house during the day to stay comfortable.2.  Keeping our window blinds … (9 comments)

Buyers and Sellers - Mesa, Arizona - Landlord's Nightmare! The Other side of the Coin! - 01/06/09 05:09 PM
So...you want to be a landlord! For all of the landlords out there - I share your pain! I shared the problems tenants are experiencing because of the landlord's failing to pay the mortgage, now I'll share the other side - the landlord's challenges.
Many of my investors have purchased homes as a rental, and I refer them to a property management company 'cause I manage my own - and I'm not a property manager nor do I want to be one. ;-)Owning rental property is not for the faint of heart! Recently we evicted a tenant of ten years because … (15 comments)

Seven MORE INTIMATE and UNKNOWN Details on The Life of Teri Ellis! - 01/05/09 11:45 PM
It appears that I cannot get by without being caught! There is always something "more" that I need to reveal about "me." This time, it's SEVEN things...yep, seven!  WHO came up with THAT number? My dear friend, Candace Robinson, in Gilbert, Arizona, decided that she didn't know quite enough and tagged me to share seven things no one knows. Being the good friend that I am, I acquiesced. Grudgingly! Just for the record!FIRST:  I'll bet you didn't know - or remember - that I met and spoke with Elvis Presley! Yep, went to his home with umpteen other women, and "he" … (17 comments)

Should I? Should I Not? Reciprocate! OR comment? - 01/04/09 08:38 PM
For almost two years now, I've been posting on Active Rain - almost without exception acknowledging any comments made on one of my blog posts personally, and then going to a post written by that commenter and throwing in my two cents - or reciprocating. So, that would mean - in case this is unclear - I would make two responses to each comment made on my post.  See where I'm going with this?
Two years later, we have well over 125,000 people on Active Rain, and many of them are blogging, commenting and reciprocating. I am still trying to acknowledge … (65 comments)

What Happened When I Fell Off of the Active Rain Wagon! And Now That I've Climbed Back ON??? - 01/02/09 02:03 PM
When I fell off the Active Rain wagon awhile back, I noticed some interesting side effects:

First, my ideas dried up....yep, hard to believe.  Unless I'm posting regularly, my brain takes a vacation from thinking about what to share.  BUT if I am communicating consistently, more and more ideas flood into my brain/fingers. AND no one - or very few - would be reading or commenting on my past posts.

Second, I am a fan of and subscribe to and pay annually for The Blog Log which helps me know what people are looking for and finding on my … (70 comments)
