94521: eco-fi indoor/outdoor rugs from Costco - 05/22/09 09:42 AM
While  shopping at Costco last night, I came across these indoor/outdoor area rugs (6' x 9' for about $22).  Last year the rug I used was less than clean after the wet feet from the pool and sprinklers.  I decided to purchase 2 that seem better for the outdoors (mold resistant).
These rugs were made by ozite using eco-fi(TM), which is high-quality polyester fiber from 100% post-consumer recycled bottles.  According to the packaging, each rug saves 50+ bottles from landfills.
These are not the fanciest looking rugs, however they are perfect for under my sitting areas in the back yard.  They … (18 comments)

94521: Update - Did your clients buy or sell in 2008? - 01/02/09 10:55 AM
This is an except from a newsletter I sent out to my clients in mid year 2008.  It was telling them that no matter how bad the market, some people find it the optimum time to buy... SO, did these people buy???  Here's the rest of the story!
Hi all, It has been awhile since I wanted you to know that Bob and I have been selling real estate even with the challenges in today's market.  We are fortunate to have buyers to assist, who recognize the opportunity of the market.  Could this be you?
Buyer #1  Connie has been saving … (16 comments)

94521: Realtor perspective, WHEN you can't do everything, paint... - 12/28/08 04:00 AM
When you can't do everything, a little paint goes a LONG way!!!  Why do I make that statement, well Realtors and Stagers would prefer that clients do everything on the "list", wouldn't we?  Of course we would!  BUT in the real world, some clients just don't have the ability or funds to do so.  So when THEY choose what to do (with your guidance of course), make sure they are choosing the most impactful thing to bring them the return on investment.  Does your staging partner give your clients choices based on a priority?  Of course your staging team can do the work if sellers have … (57 comments)

94521: How I saved 13 TONS of CO2 on Monday night! - 11/21/08 05:28 PM

How I saved 13 TONS of CO2 in one night?  Hint, hint.  I am sure most of you have heard that replacing an incandescent bulb with a Compact Flourescent can save you 75% of the energy used to light your home.  It can last up to 10,000 hours and each bulb saves the CO2 gases going into the atmosphere by 1 ton per the US Dept of Energy. WOW! It takes ONE tree 40 years to absorb one ton of CO2.  A family of four in North America generates 110 TONS of CO2 in a year.  Outside of … (37 comments)

94521: Ethanol in East Bay, a first!! Maybe it's just too corny... - 10/28/08 04:30 AM
There was a crowd of people October 19th at the Black Diamond Chevron Ethanol station right at the intersection of Willow Pass and Evora Road which just opened in Concord, Califorinia.
The county of Contra Costa is mandated to use alternative fuels but until now there was no place to get it.  Chevron has opened the station here, the only public station in the Bay area, but it is one of 1802 such alternative fueling stations nationwide.  The number of ethanol stations grew 28 percent  in 2008.  And per the state of California there are approximately 500,000 flexible fuel stations in … (8 comments)

94521: DO YOU CHA CHA WHEN YOUR CLIENTS HIP HOP? - 10/24/08 06:22 PM
Do you Cha Cha when they Hip Hop?
When listing and selling a property your interactions with sellers and buyers are a bit like a dance.  IF you are not in sync you will have a struggle just getting them to listen to your recommendations.  It is pretty important to KNOW the dance they are doing so you can do that dance too, it makes it much easier for   them to understand and relate to you and vice versa.  We've all had that client that just clashes with everything we say.  Well it's not really their fault or ours, just that we're … (39 comments)

94521: How many aluminum cans??? 106,000 every 30 seconds!!! - 09/28/08 08:27 PM
West Coast Green 2008 was an amazing and out of the box experience.  It is so much more than a conference for all who attend.  One of the speakers for the opening session was Chris Jordan, lawyer turned artist, photographer and perhaps eco activist.
Chris puts a face on our overconsumption.  He says we are much like a family of alcoholics.  We are all alcoholics, sitting around with empty vodka bottles everywhere and eventually don't notice the empty vodka bottles.  Our over consumption is just so overwhelming that we don't see it anymore.
In North America we discard 106,000 aluminum soda … (34 comments)

94521: WEST COAST GREEN 2008 You did what with my cactus plant? - 09/27/08 10:17 AM
The West Coast Green 2008 conference in San Jose
this week was full of exhibits, speakers and wonderful ways to make a difference in the future green efforts for our planet earth.
As you know, Carbon dioxide is generated as a by-product of the combustion of fossil fuels or the burning of vegetable matter, among other chemical processes.
Wikipedia says - Carbon Dioxide In the recent past, transfer rates due to photosynthesis and respiration and including decay, were just about even. However, more carbon dioxide is being deposited in the Earth's atmosphere, than is being removed. In 1850, atmospheric carbon … (5 comments)

94521: WEST COAST GREEN 2008 – 400 miles for $1.00!!! - 09/27/08 09:45 AM
The conference was amazing, oppoprtunities for entrepreneurs, vendors and the public to see, touch and feel green products and hear speakers who have been making HUGE strides in the Green technology and awareness on the West Coast and around the world.  I'll review other things in other blog posts but today just was thrilled and astounded at this adorable vehicle.  Just check this out:
ELV Motors offers "Fleet Certified" electric bicycles, scooters and hybrid motorcycles for personal and corporate use.  This scooter gets 400 miles per $1!
This would make a huge difference in your commute costs.  The local ELV motors … (8 comments)

94521: Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? oops Cindy Lin and Terrylynn Fisher? - 09/22/08 11:47 AM
Is this a bit like where in the world is Carmen San Diego?

Going Green in Oakland!!!

Margarido House, Oakland Hills, California
Cindy and I attended the opening of a LEEDS rated sustainable home hosted by California Homes and Design magazine.  They built the home in an area ravaged by the 1991 Oakland Hills fire and it stands among old and new construction on the street.
It is modern in look and any minute about to receive its LEEDS rating.  Leeds requires 102 points for Platinum Rating, it is expected to have 118 points.  The home is also GreenPoint Rated.  … (18 comments)

94521: YOUR Home or OUR Home? We want to buy OUR home. - 09/19/08 06:56 PM
The gap is widening between home staging and interior design.  The interior designer has their place in personalizing and creating the homeowner's vision for their everyday living experience.  The decorator discovers your personality and brings your unique wants and needs to your space.  Your home becomes the essence of your lifestyle, choices and personality.
Fast forward to selling.  The professional home stager removes the YOU and gives space and function to the home with less personalized décor, allowing the buyer's feelings to emerge as to how they would utilize your home as their home, should they purchase it. They FEEL at … (17 comments)
