Carter Lake, a College Station Real Estate Dream! - 08/19/07 12:00 AM
There are times when moving to Brazos Valley meant staring lovingly at my bathtub.  I am originally from Michigan with a lake every three feet it seems.  The vast contrast between the two places at times is a source of concern!
College Station is very different from Michigan and most other lake abundant places and it is difficult to get land with good lakes.  Most of we call lakes here wouldn't even necessarily be called a pond back in Michigan.  They are ultra small bodies of water that cannot support sailing, boating or even very good fishing.
In contrast College Station has a hidden treasure in … (5 comments)

College Station condos - 08/18/07 06:01 PM
College Station has a wide variety of student condos as well as condos that are perfect for just spending an occasional football weekend in.  Bryan is another good venue for condos, though many there are for active adults as well and tend to be more luxury listings.  We will focus on the more desirable, newer condos available in our market.
The desirability of a College Station Condo can be tagged upon how close the complex is to campus, with those being further away selling for less money, even when they are well appointed.
Fox Run Condos are probably one of the closest condo projects … (9 comments)

Technorati Posting - 08/16/07 11:44 AM
Technorati Profile. This is my attempt to get Technorati to index my Active Rain blog. It indexed my personal blog very easily and quickly. The Active Rain blog has been extremely difficult. I first posted to Active Rain and then created a localism post. Technorati wants to be able to find your post to authenticate your indexing request. I'm not sure if it's worth it at this point. Has anyone been successful in claiming your Active Rain blog for technorati? … (3 comments)

Bryan's Floodplains Extended - 08/11/07 05:36 PM
Bryan City Engineers recently revamped outdated floodplain maps.  FEMA requires flood maps to be revised periodically.  Approximately 10% of Bryan (around 2700 acres) now lies in floodplain.  180 homeowners were notified that their homes lie within the 100 year floodplain, the area that has a 1% or better chance of being flooded each year.
Help is on the way for residents newly identified as living in the floodplain as Bryan is part of a FEMA incentive program that will give 5% discounts for flood insurance.
Though I don't know of anyone happy about being identified as in the floodplain, these residents can sleep a  bit better at night … (6 comments)

Tankless Water Heaters, an Eco-friendly Solution! - 08/10/07 08:57 PM
Many of the builders in College Station, Texas are including a new feature, designed to save money and benefit the enviroment, the Tankless Water Heater.  The concept is simple, why heat 40 or 50 gallons of water twenty four hours a day, when you can have hot water on demand?
With Tankless Heaters, also known as Instantaneous or Demand Water Heaters, there is no storage tank.  You can employ electric or gas heating with tankless systems.  Hot water is dispensed at typically 2-5 gallons per minute.  Gas tends to be at the top of that range, where electric doesn't perform quite … (22 comments)

College Station Bush Museum Hosts "Visit the White House in College Station". - 08/09/07 09:48 PM
It's always fun to live in a community with a Presidential Library and we often have wonderful events here because of it.  Visitors to the area have included queens, princes, ambassadors, heads of state and of course the president, and his family.  Our library is located at 1000 George Bush Drive West, College Station, TX.
The exibits at the Bush Library are currently being overhauled and one that is relatively new is up and running. John and Jan Zweifel have built a White House replica in minature.  It skillfully and faithfully brings alive 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for visitors.

Countertops...Refresh or Resurface? - 08/08/07 08:04 PM
Does gazing at your kitchen countertops bring the Brady Bunch theme to mind?  Is avocado green, or Harvest Gold a part of your decorating scheme???  There is help to be had!!!
If you are in a starter home, or a home that is less than $200,000 you might consider resurfacing as an option.  For a kitchen with less than 13 linear feet the cost is a mere $380 and the results are spectacular
this is a before shot of a kitchen where resurfacing was employed.  See how the harvest gold countertops diminish the clean lines of this kitchen.

Here's the kitchen after Guaranteed Resurfacing … (12 comments)

Goodnight Marvin Zindler - 08/04/07 11:34 PM
Many years ago I moved to Houston and one of the first voices I ever heard there was "Marvin Zindler, Eyewitness News".  His flamboyance and extra emphasis on his name was like fingernails screeching on a chalkboard.  Many times I remember it grating against my nerves badly as I watched the news station.  Periodically he would announce health department closings in Houston.  This was his main job.  Many know him from his frequent "slime in the ice machine" remarks.  After a while I began to take stock of the man, not the annoying voice.
Later I noticed that he moderated for people in need.  People … (7 comments)
