georgetown: Come One, Come All, and Celebrate With Us! Friday, August 2 - 07/28/13 11:30 PM
As I told you all earlier, I recently changed brokers to Goldwasser Real Estate.  Goldwasser Real Estate opened a Georgetown, Texas, office, and on First Friday, August 2, we're having a Grand Opening (read:  PARTY!!!!!) to celebrate.  We're having the event in conjunction with First Friday, and we're located just a block from the Georgetown Square, so you can include visiting all the great shops and restaurants and listening to the live music as well as the food, music, and fun at Goldwasser Real Estate.  Details are below.  I hope to see you there - ALL of you!

georgetown: Literature and Art in Georgetown, Texas - 07/21/13 04:09 AM
As a true bibliophile (read: reading addict - I'll read the print on the back of a contact solutions bottle if there's nothing else around to read!), I'm obviously enamored of libraries.  And the Georgetown Public Library is high on my list of places to spend time.  Not only because of the books, both to check out and in their used bookstore, Second Hand Prose, not only because of the Red Poppy Cafe where pastries and coffee are available, not only because of the occasional live music events and other activities, but because of the art scattered throughout the building on … (0 comments)

georgetown: Why Have a Buyer's Agent? - 07/18/13 07:00 AM
I see this question often in online forums by people who are planning to buy a home and want to know why they should have a buyer's agent when the seller has an agent who can just take care of everything.
Long before I was an agent, we bought a home with no agents involved on either side.  It went well enough, though now that I know more, there are things I wish we'd done at the time.
When we bought our ranch, there were agents involved on both sides.  Even though I'd been through the process before and THOUGHT … (4 comments)

georgetown: I'm Trying Something New! - 06/03/13 11:26 AM

Well, actually, somewhere new.  After 8 great years with the same broker, I've move to a new one - Goldwasser Real Estate.  They have a business plan that simply resonates with me so strongly that I know it's going to make it easier for me to give the best possible service to my clients, without driving myself nuts in the process, unparalleled support for me AND my clients, enthusiasm that just won't quit, and I just had to take the jump.
Our new Georgetown office in Tamiro Plaza opened today, but we won't be having the Grand Opening … (0 comments)

georgetown: Sometimes Country Surprises Are the Best Ones! - 07/23/12 04:28 AM

Don’t you just love surprises?  I love surprises – well, some surprises.

We had a surprise just about three months ago this week.  I went out, as usual, to feed the critters.  Neither Memory the Morgan mare nor Manny the Morgan stallion were down in their usual place to eat.  This is MOST unusual.

A little ways away, still near the barn and food supply but not close enough to see clearly, I saw Manny running round and round, clearly worked up about something.  Then I saw Memory  standing at the rise – he was running around … (3 comments)

georgetown: The A B C's of School Districts in Central Texas - 01/05/11 03:06 PM
A very common question when a client is relocating to this area and deciding where to purchase a home is, "What is the best school district?"  That's a question that, of course, parents have to answer for themselves.  As I've noticed, and always say, what's a good or great school depends on the child.  Why?  Because each child is different, with different strengths and weaknesses and educational needs, and the best school for them is the school that fits that particular child.  Even in my own family, the school that was great for our son would have been a disaster for … (0 comments)

georgetown: My Roommate Is a Horse! - 01/04/11 02:22 PM
It all starts with a pony ride.
Or a trail ride on vacation.
Or a one-time riding lesson.
Next thing you know, you've got a horse, and you're boarding it.
All of us who have horses in our lives know the next step.  You start thinking about the drive out to the stables.  You start imagining waking up in the morning and sitting at the breakfast table having coffee and looking out the window at your horse.
It's the beginning of the end.
Then come the questions.
How can I make this work?
Who will I have to go riding with?

georgetown: Zion Lutheran Church and School 39th Annual Wurstbraten - Mmmmm, mmmm, Sausage! - 10/26/10 03:40 PM

Coming up next Monday (Sunday if you're buying sausage by the pound), the Zion Lutheran Church & School annual Wurstbraten in Walburg, just a few minutes northeast of Georgetown, Texas, is an event that is waited for eagerly by folks in Central Texas.  As the weather cools, like the blooming of the Chilly Lillies it's something that tells us that winter is on the way, that the heat of a long Texas summer has really finally broken, and it's time to celebrate harvest (even in this fast-paced day and age) and enjoy the fruits of our … (3 comments)

georgetown: Migration Patterns - Is EVERYONE Moving to Texas? - 06/16/10 08:52 AM

Forbes just came out with a Migration Pattern Interactive Map based on information from the IRS about movements across the country.
From the looks of it, Travis County, Texas (Austin, primarily), Williamson County, Texas (Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Leander), and Harris County, Texas (Houston and environs) are the Place to Be.

Now, this is no surprise to those of us who live and play in Central Texas and have for decades - we KNOW it's a great place to live!  But it's interesting to see how many other people have figured … (4 comments)

georgetown: Gepetto's Pizzeria - Who'd A-Thunk It, Way Out In The Country? - 06/04/10 06:24 AM
Living out on the ranch, we've often had to drive into Austin, or at least Georgetown, for good pizza whenever we get the craving (or plan our pizza cravings around someone being in town and have them pick it up on the way home, and as everyone knows, pizza cravings should be spontaneous!).
Then, one day when we'd driven up to Brookshire Brothers in Salado and Green's Sausage House in Zabcikville (yes, we are all about the food, why do you ask?), we noticed a place on the highway, out by itself, right as we took the exit to head home.  … (2 comments)

georgetown: HAve A Heart For the Caring Place! - 02/25/10 05:31 AM
Every February, ERA Colonial Real Estate's Georgetown office holds a food drive for the Caring Place, the local food bank that serves Williamson County.  We plan it for February because it's far enough after the holiday season that all those warm fuzzies that encouraged people to donate during that period are far enough in the past that the pantry shelves can get a little bare, and to remind people that folks in need need to eat year round.
Agents spread out across the city and the county, leaving bags with flyers in them on doorknobs and hanging on gates, and then, … (3 comments)

georgetown: ERA Colonial Real Estate Food Drive for the Caring Place, Georgetown, Texas - 03/15/09 08:15 AM

Every year, the ERA Colonial Real Estate office in Georgetown, Texas, has a food drive for The Caring Place, an agency providing assistance for those in need in Williamson County and, thus, often in need itself.

All the agents take a neighborhood and distribute bags to be filled with food.  On a designated date, we re-visit our neighborhood and collect the bags put out on their porches by the residents of Williamson County who are aware that we're all in this together and who are giving their neighbors a helping hand.

georgetown: Eggs In My Pocket - Stories of Country Life - 08/07/08 02:45 AM
Our local newspaper here in Georgetown, Texas, is the Williamson County Sun.  It has news about the area (rarely national news, unless it pertains to a local), when and where the next fundraiser with good food is going to be, news about local businesses - your typical small town newspaper.
For quite some time now, there's been a column in the Sun that I read religiously.  It always perks up my week - frequently I'll read it out loud to my husband as we're driving down the road and we'll both smile or laugh at the familiar goings-on being described.  That's … (3 comments)

georgetown: Friendly Computers To the Rescue! - 07/12/08 02:50 AM
As those who have been around a while may know, my new name, after frying two hard drives (and making an external backup hard drive not work) within five months, is "Dances on Hard Drives".  So you can imagine my chagrin when I went to turn on my computer yesterday morning, the computer that had been functioning perfectly well the night before when I shut it down, and nothing happened.  It wouldn't even TRY to turn on!  Thoughts of terminal embarrassment (never mind lost data) went flitting through my mind.
I had floor duty, on top of that, and an appointment … (1 comments)

georgetown: The Oddest Walk-In Ever While On Desk Duty - 05/11/08 10:23 AM

So, yesterday I was on desk duty at my office in Georgetown, Texas.  It was a very quiet Saturday (hot, muggy day, one of the first of the year, most folks just wanted to stay inside in air conditioning, I think).  A good day to get paperwork caught up.
About mid-afternoon, I decided to step out the back door to our Coke machine and get some caffeine to keep myself perky.
Imagine my surprise when I saw this little fellow waiting for me.
This is a Gray Tree Frog (I now know, having looked him up as soon … (2 comments)

georgetown: Mariachis de Jalisco - Muy Delicioso! - 05/04/08 04:33 AM
A few weeks back, one of the agents in our office introduced me to this little jewel tucked into a strip center on Williams Drive in Georgetown, Texas.  When we first moved here, this location was a Chinese restaurant at which we ate a couple of times, but that closed long ago.  Some time back, I noticed that Mariarchis de Jalisco had moved in, but somehow had never stopped in.
Casting about for a good place close by to eat lunch one day, Sherri Revier recommended Mariachis.  By, am I glad she did!
That first lunch, I tried their green … (2 comments)

georgetown: Georgetown, Texas, A Great Place to Live and Work - 03/29/08 01:52 AM

We may sometimes seem like a sleepy little Texas town to some, but there's a lot going on underneath the surface!  Fortune has named Georgetown #2 in its list of Best Places to Live and Launch because they've discovered what's going on here.

Georgetown is a great place to live because of the beauty, the variety of homes available from Old Town to Sun City to new subdivisions to country estates just out of town, our historical district, our trail system for hiking and biking, golf courses, Lake Georgetown, the San Gabriel River, Southwestern University, and much, much more.  But it's … (2 comments)

georgetown: A Deeper Shade of Green - 02/12/08 01:39 PM

Whew!  Finally!  Thought I'd NEVER get it finished!

What is it?  Well, this past weekend, after studying and researching and taking exams, I finally finished the EcoBroker® training and am now a Certified EcoBroker®.

Of course, this is just the beginning - what I now know is how much more there is to learn and do in order to assure that my real estate practice is kind to Mother Nature as well as my clients.  The  EcoBroker® certification is a firm foundation upon which to build that practice, and I'm delighted to have completed it.  It's an exciting adventure I've embarked on!

georgetown: Twin Creek Farms, Georgetown, Texas, 3.74 Acre Lot - 02/10/08 07:11 AM

Twin Creek Farms is a gated, deed-restricted equestrian community technically located in Georgetown, Texas, per its address, but actually about half a mile outside of the little community of Walburg.

Residents with large enough lots can keep their horses on their own property, or they can board their horses at the Twin Creek Equestrian Center.

Other amenities include a 30 acre greenbelt with equestrian and hiking trails, a stocked one acre lake for fishing, and the peace of the beautiful Central Texas countryside.

Neighbors are close, but not too close - and they're in tune with your horsey lifestyle!
