small town excitement - 09/08/07 03:39 PM
When you are in a small town it doesn't take much to get you all excited. We have a small man made lake here in Arizona City that has a fountain in the middle of it. It has been so long since the fountain has worked that most people in town have never seen it operate. I got a frantic phone call from my broker telling me to go out and take a photo of it todayas it is throwing water into the clear blue desert skies of Arizona for the first time in many moons … (2 comments)

2nd Annual Old West Appreciation Day - 09/05/07 11:55 AM
Just south of Arizona City,Az. there is a local gentleman that had a dream to keep the spirit of the old west alive. He took his property and built  an old west main street with storefronts. He is holding the second annual Old West Appreciation Day on Sept. 8th from 10am till 5:30pm. For more info go to www.jamestownaz.com. the desert at night - 09/03/07 10:41 PM
I just spent about forty five minutes sitting in my backyard with all the lights out in the house. I am out in the middle of nowhere in western Pinal County,Arizona. the stars are out and the night is perfectly clear. It really makes you appreciate the solitude of living in the country. I sometimes miss the smells and sounds of the city, but not on an evening like tonight … (1 comments)

Hidden Valley - 09/02/07 10:53 PM
I tried to add a community to the Localism site but I got the big red X. Hidden valley is a pretty large area west and south of the Town of Maricopa in Arizona. It is twenty miles plus long and at least five miles wide. It consists of a lot of acreage and a number of small subdivisions that are being developed. It has been around a long time and I think it deserves to be called a community just like all the new cookie cutter subdivisions with all their HOA's. There are a lot of great people, beautiful homes, horse … (2 comments)

Tahoe City - 09/02/07 10:19 PM
I am a new member of Active Rain and I am just scratching the surface of the available resources. I spent about thirty years on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in Tahoe City, the west shore, and on the Truckee River. I was just checking out AR members in that area and it brought back fond memories of shoveling snow, dealing with the short building season, and seeing snow every month of the year except August. Living in the desert of Arizona now, I can truely say, I don't miss the cold. I do miss the beauty of Tahoe … (1 comments)

Light in the sky - 09/02/07 07:34 AM
For some reason I woke up this morning just before 5am. I walked outside to enjoy the cool 80 degree predawn temperature here in the desert and to let the dog out. Looking to the northeast I happen to see a bright light that just seemed to sitting still. I grabbed the binoculars but that didn't help so I grabbed my 99 dollar telescope and set it up. It was pretty cool because through the telescope it looked like a small version of an eclipse.  I am assuming I got to witness one of those things that just don't come along very … (0 comments)
