Another 1st for Whatcom County - 08/29/08 01:00 PM
Have you taken a bus lately in Bellingham or Whatcom County?  A few of our local buses have been decorated by local art students. They are youngsters from our school system. The art was taken and blown up and placed on the outside of a bus. It's kind of surprising The Whatcom Transit Authority doesn't even have a mention of it in their web site. It must make a parent proud to see their children's art rolling around the streets of Bellingham for everyone to see.

Birch Bay is the fastest growing area in Whatcom County. The bay itself has a huge tide flat of sand that is several square miles in size and bares itself at low tide. As the water returns to the tide flats over the hot sand it warms to bath water temperatures in the summer.
Birch Bay has one of the largest heron nesting rookeries in the state, and outstanding birding, especially for seabirds and shorebirds. It's classed by the Audubon Society as one of the 50 most Important Birding Areas in Washington State, along with nearby Blaine's Drayton Harbor.

Northwest Washington Fair - August 11-16 - 08/12/08 01:21 PM
Lynden's biggest event every year is the Northwest Washington Fair. This years it will be taking place August 11 through August 16. Otherwise known as Lynden Fair, it began almost a century ago. The fair is billed as a social gathering place where family values will be honored and individuals of all ages will be entertained and a place to showcase Whatcom County's agricultural heritage and give our youth some hands-on experience in the world of agriculture.

Motorcycle Show & BBQ - Barkley Village Sat, Aug 9 - 08/08/08 05:30 PM
The second annual Haggen Bike Show will take place Saturday, Aug. 9, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Meridian Street Haggen in Barkely Village.
Motorcyclists will  compete for prizes in five categories: best of show, best classic, best cruser, best custom and best sport bike. Registration is $10, and lasts until the day of the event.
The Bike show and barbecue during it are fundraisers for the Whatcom Hospice Foundation, a nonprofit that provides patient care, therapy, medical equipment and other supplies to patients with advanced illnesses.

Sand in the City Festival - Sandsculpture Aug 8-10 - 08/06/08 01:02 PM
This weekend is another event not to be missed, The 3rd annual Sand in the City Festival.
It's not at the beach as you might expect, but in a parking lot near Squalicum Harbor, in front of the Harbor Center Building, 1801 Roeder Avenue. . Truckloads of sand are brought in to a parking lot for the competition. Each team has 5 cubic feet of sand and 6 hours to create their sand sculpture, and try to win the "Golden Shovel" award. 
 I was just blown away by the awesome sand sculptures at last years competition, which is were these pictures come from.

Chalk Art and La Bella Stata Festivals this weekend in downtown Bellingham - 08/06/08 12:42 PM
It is the middle of summer and there are just so,,,,,,,,,,, many things to do this weekend in and around Bellingham.  This weekend is the 16th Annual Chalk Art Festival, where kids of all ages, willcolor the streets of downtown with their creative, vibrant, colorful artwork right onto the sidewalks to be enjoyed by all until the rains wash them away.

The Subdued Stringband Jamboree is taking place this weekend Aug 8 -9 at the Deming Log Show Grounds.
The Jambpree has become a local musical tradition since is inception in 2001 when local musician Robert Blake and friends started the event. The spirit of community and fun of late night pickin" parties, and campfires has kept it alive and flourishing. Bellingham Real Estate Market Report Graph - Residential - July 2008 - 08/05/08 04:32 PM

In the roller coaster ride of sales prices, this month is heading down after coming off a good high last month.
This months average sales price is down 9.7% compared to last year, while the median price is down a slight .7% 
The average price is down 13.1% from last month while the median off 9.8% from June.
The number of sales is down by 34 compared to last year or 25%, this sure seems to be continuing the trend so far this year.

This months average Bellingham Condo sales price is down 7.6% compared to last year, but the median price went up 8.9% compared to last July.
The average price is down 21% from June (last month) while the median is down a bit at 2.8% from last month.
The number of sales is down by 29 compared to last year,and the days on the market is actually lower than last year.

"The Greenest House," a new Bellingham based reality TV show - 08/04/08 01:12 PM
 "The Greenest House," a new Bellingham based reality TV show was filming this weekend in several areas around town. The show has two families trying to see who could be the "greenest." The City of Bellingham is one of the proud supporting partners in the Black Dog Production's new venture. 
Filming of the show began in April and will hopefully air on Bellingham's local channel BTV !0 and KVOS this fall.
With a motto of 3 months, 2 families, 1 greener Earth, producers are hoping for some interest from the national networks.

The Alabama Hill Neighborhood Association will hold its annual summer barbeque Tuesday, August 4 at 6pm, in conjunction with the City of Bellingham's participation in National Night Out against crime!
 It's a  great time to get out and say hi to your neighbors from other parts of Alabama Hill, some of whom you probably haven't seen since last year.
